Esme Prince is a fictional character and antagonist in the ABC daytime drama General Hospital. She is the daughter of two psychotic serial killers, the late Ryan Chamberlain and Heather Webber.
She was portrayed by actress Avery Kristen Pohl from August 16, 2021 to January 31, 2024.[2] As of the August 20, 2021 episode, Pohl is listed in the end credits with the contract actors.[3]
Casting
On August 16, 2021, actress Avery Kristen Pohl joined the cast of GH in the contract role of Esme Prince, Spencer Cassadine's (Nicholas Chavez) girlfriend. Her character's identity was revealed on August 19, 2021.
Pohl temporarily exited GH on August 2, 2022, but returned in a dream for one episode on September 2, 2022.
On September 30, 2022, it was confirmed that Pohl will return to GH as Esme during the week of October 3.[4] Pohl returned as Esme on October 4, 2022.
On February 1, 2024, it was confirmed that Pohl is done as Esme and has exited GH.[5] She made her final appearance on January 31, 2024 when her character was presumed dead.
Background
Esme Prince was introduced as Spencer Cassadine's girlfriend from boarding school in France. Not much is known about her, but it's clear that Esme has an agenda.
Esme's parents, Heather and Ryan
Esme revealed that she was adopted and had adoptive siblings, but she claimed that she didn't have a good relationship with her family. After the death of her adoptive parents, she was raised by her nanny, Maggie Fitzgerald, whom she was close to.
On August 27, 2021, it was shown that Esme has a connection to Ryan Chamberlain, the identical twin brother of Dr. Kevin Collins. On March 9, 2022, it was revealed that Ryan is Esme's father.
Esme with her son, Ace
On October 11, 2022, it was revealed that she is expecting her first child, from her one-night-stand with her then-boyfriend Spencer Cassadine's father, Nikolas Cassadine. She was held at Spoon Island secretly as a hostage by Nikolas until she gave birth, with Elizabeth Baldwin in on the plan, and taking care of her prenatal needs as her private nurse. Nikolas planned to send Esme to Cassadine Island after she gave birth. On New Years Eve 2022, Esme set fire to the storage room to escape Nikolas, then intentionally fell off the parapet into the ocean. Esme and her unborn baby were found by Spencer and Trina Robinson on The Haunted Star and she was taken to the hospital, where she was found to have hypothermia. Upon waking up, she claims she does not remember who she was nor her pregnancy. Her uncle Kevin later confirmed the diagnosis of memory loss, after Elizabeth sent him to check on Esme.
On December 9, it was revealed that Ryan and Heather Webber used to be involved, making Heather Esme's mother. Esme found Ryan using one of his keepsakes that came with her as a newborn, that Heather had stolen from Ryan. On January 17, 2023, Heather was reunited with Esme after she was remanded to Spring Ridge before her trial. On January 31, 2023, Esme was visited by Nikolas and Elizabeth's mother, Dr. Carolyn Webber, who confirmed her diagnosis of having dissociative amnesia, due to a traumatic event, with Carolyn unaware that Nikolas wanted her to erase Esme's memories. When Carolyn saw that Esme was pregnant, she refused and left. Nikolas later told Esme that he was the father of her child. Nikolas tried to get Esme to sign the custody papers over to him, but Heather stops her after when she learns what Nikolas was trying to do. Later, Heather and Ryan have a discussion about Nikolas trying to steal their grandchild, Sam and Dante trying to find Maggie, and they break out of Spring Ridge with Esme.
After the final showdown at Wyndermere, Esme learns that Ryan and Heather were her biological parents, before the Ryan's death and Heather's arrest for being The Hook killer. Esme gives birth to a boy at Wyndermere Castle, with the help of paramedics, his paternal grandmother Mayor Laura Collins and maternal great uncle Dr. Kevin Collins, while Nikolas is missing, presumed out of town, prior to the baby birth.
After agreeing to meet her mother Heather at General Hospital, Esme proclaimed she will never see her nor her grandson again. She followed this up by filing for sole custody of her newborn son, so she would be allowed to keep him for his first 18 months while she is at Spring Ridge Prison awaiting her trial. On March 16, after visiting Esme and Ace, Trina decided along with Cameron and Josslyn to drop the charges against Esme due to her memory loss, until her memory could return, so that she could be tried later. Later, she was scared when given a letter from her mother. Later on March 17, after the meeting between D.A. Robert Scorpio and Attorney Diane Miller, Robert agrees to drop the charges against Esme due to her mental culpability, as a jury would likely find her sympathetic after being held hostage and locked in a tower. After upon being released from Spring Ridge, arrangements were made for Esme and Ace - a rented room about Kelly's and Ace would stay with his paternal grandmother and maternal great-uncle at their penthouse. When Esme refused to be separated from her son, they both ended up moving into the penthouse with Kevin, Laura, Spencer and Charlotte Cassadine.
Storylines
On August 16, 2021, Ava Jerome goes to visit Kevin Collins at the hospital. A nurse walks by while Ava is heading to Kevin's office. The nurse stands outside his office and eavesdrops after Laura Collins walks inside. Ava discusses the theory that Spencer Cassadine is her stalker. She tells Kevin and Laura that Nikolas Cassadine is pretending to be in Dubai but he is planning to teach Spencer a lesson. Later Ava is watched as she calls for a launch to Spoon Island.
The nurse watches as Ava and Portia Robinson talk. She smiles and follows Ava outside. Ava discovers her car on fire. A firefighter says that a gas can was found under the chassis and Kiki Jerome's hospital badge was nearby. Ava faints when she sees the badge. She later tells Portia that Kiki was buried with her badge. The nurse walks by and smiles.
On August 19, the nurse arrives at Wyndemere Castle, where she kisses Spencer Cassadine and introduces herself to Trina Robinson as Esme Prince, Spencer's girlfriend. After Trina leaves, Esme admits to Spencer that she's been following Ava including pretending to be a nurse and torching her car. She did it all to throw suspicion off Spencer as the true stalker. This upsets him, and he claims she went too far.
It is revealed that Esme and Spencer met at their French boarding school.
On August 27, she and Spencer head to Spring Ridge Prison to visit with Alexis Davis. While there, they spot Ryan Chamberlain and after excusing herself from them, she approaches him. Esme expresses an interest with his health aide Harmony about working at the prison. Esme speaks to Ryan while Harmony translates. Ryan signs for Esme to "go" repeatedly. After Esme leaves, Harmony warns Alexis that Esme is trouble.
On September 7, Esme visits Ava at the Jerome Gallery where she reveals that she and her siblings are adopted. Esme later told Ava that she isn't close to her family.
Later Esme slips up and calls Kiki "Lauren". Trina is suspicious as Ava's daughter always went by the name Kiki. Esme claims she read about Kiki's real name in the paper and she only knows what Spencer told her about Kiki. Esme accuses Trina of having a crush on Spencer.
On March 8, 2022, it was revealed that Ryan has been faking his locked-in syndrome. After Ryan was taken back to his cell, Esme steals an access card and secretly visits him. It was revealed that Esme was working to break up Nikolas and Ava under Ryan's orders and she had manipulated Spencer into stalking Ava. During their visit, it was revealed that Ryan is Esme's father. Esme ended up living at Wyndemere with Spencer although Ava wanted Esme out.
On April 13, Esme told Nikolas that her parents were dead and her adoptive parents suddenly died. She was taken care of by her nanny Maggie Fitzgerald until she went to boarding school and never heard from Maggie again. Later Esme pulls out a letter written to her at boarding school from her nanny Maggie Fitzgerald who lived in London. Maggie warned Esme about going to Port Charles as Esme's father was nearby.
After Esme spent the next few months manipulating Nikolas and stroking his ego in order to drive him and Ava apart, on June 1, Nikolas and Esme slept together right before Ava and Spencer got to Wyndemere. Esme hid on the parapet as Ava talked to Nikolas about reconciling, but Nikolas felt guilty for betraying her with Esme. Nikolas and Esme eventually decided that neither Ava nor Spencer should know about them sleeping together.
On July 18, Spencer told Esme that he found her birth mother. Esme was surprised and Spencer said that he had help from his great-great uncle, Victor Cassadine. While Esme was happy that Spencer would do this for her, Spencer revealed that she was the last person he would do this for. Spencer finally revealed that he knows she framed Trina and demanded her to give Trina her freedom in return for her birth mother's identity.
On July 22, Esme went to Oz Haggerty's apartment and he demanded money from her by threatening to expose her for framing Trina for filming Josslyn and Cameron, but she seduced him and drugged him in order to keep him from testifying against her. Curtis Ashford and the P.C.P.D. found Oz and took him to the hospital, but Esme managed to escape.
On July 26, Spencer threatened Esme with an ultimatum and reminded her that she wouldn't get to know who her birth mother was unless she exonerated Trina. Esme, not wanting to incriminate herself, angrily turned down Spencer.
On July 27, Esme went to visit Ryan and told him that Spencer found her birth mother, but Ryan told her that Spencer was lying. During their talk, Ryan promised Esme that they would destroy their enemies and then find her birth mother together.
Later on, Esme went to the courthouse and she taunted Ava outside the courtroom. After Esme hinted about a big secret that Nikolas has been keeping from her, Nikolas showed up and stopped her, before she went and gave her testimony. This led Nikolas to finally confess to Ava that he slept with Esme, which infuriated Ava.
Esme went back to Wyndemere to pack up her stuff since she planned to skip town, but Ava caught her before she could leave and confronted her about seducing and sleeping with Nikolas. During an argument, Ava realized that Esme was targeting her from the beginning, wondered why Esme hated her so much and asked what she ever did to her. Ava eventually decided that they could talk about her seducing Nikolas later and demanded Esme to exonerate Trina, but Esme refused. When Esme went to leave, Ava saw a letter that Esme dropped and grabbed it. Esme tried to grab it back which led to them physically fighting each other. When they took their fight out onto the parapet, Esme eventually fell off which shocked Ava.
Nikolas quickly came up and wondered what happened before Ava told him about their fight and what happened. Ava wanted to call the cops but Nikolas told her not to since they wouldn't believe her fall was an accident because it was no secret that Ava hated Esme. After Nikolas promised to take care of this, he went down to see if Esme was anywhere to be found. After he went back up to Ava's room, he revealed to her that all he found was her shoe.
On August 16, after Oz testified against Esme and revealed the truth, the charges against Trina were dropped and she was exonerated. At the same time, the P.C.P.D. began to look for Esme.
On August 26, Spencer was horrified to overhear Nikolas and Ava arguing about him sleeping with Esme.

On October 4, Esme was revealed to be alive and back in Port Charles after she was saved by a Canadian fisherman and recovered in a hostel after she fell off the parapet. She remained hidden and wore a big jacket due to being a wanted fugitive. After overhearing Josslyn and Trina talking outside of Kelly's, Esme later snuck into Spring Ridge and visited Ryan, which made him happy.
Esme breaks into Wyndemere, in an attempt to steal money, and Nikolas catches her. He's shocked to discover she's pregnant - with his child! She agrees to a paternity test, and blackmails Nikolas into not turning her in to the police, hiring her the best lawyer Cassadine money can buy, and letting her stay at the castle. Nikolas turns the tables on her by locking her into a large storage room with an en suite bathroom in the North Tower of the castle that no one uses. Esme attempts to attack Nikolas with a candlestick, but he blocks her attack with a food tray. She gets a wire from a painting and tries to pick the lock. When she gets the door open, Nikolas is on the other side and he locks her in the en suite. Nikolas plans to send Esme to Cassadine Island after she gives birth.
Unfortunately, on New Years Eve 2022, Esme sets fire to the storage room in order to escape Nikolas, then she intentionally falls off the parapet into the ocean. She arrived on The Haunted Star wet and shivering, where she saw Spencer and Trina Robinson about to kiss. Esme collapsed unconscious before Spencer rushed to her side and confirmed she was still breathing โ though he mentioned her blue lips and feared she might have hypothermia. Trina also exclaimed that Esme was pregnant before Spencer tried to pick Esme up so they could take her to General Hospital.
Later, Detective Dante Falconeri arrived and questioned Trina and Spencer about what went down with Esme right as Liz and Nikolas appeared. While Dante headed to Esme's room, Spencer got in Nikolas' face and suspected he had an ulterior motive for being there. Esme was being treated for hypothermia and had no other signs of serious injuries. Dante checked out the bag of everything Esme had on her when she was admitted, which included a Christmas ornament. Once Esme woke up, Dante was ready to ask some questions.
Upon waking, Esme appeared to have amnesia, not knowing her name, where she's been, or that she was pregnant. Dante is skeptical but professional, while all of Esme's enemies outside her room are adamant she must be faking and pay for her crimes. Nikolas' soon to be ex-wife, Ava Jerome, arrives at the hospital. She is aghast to discover Esme is pregnant. When Nikolas attempts to take her aside and not make a scene, Ava publicly confronts him, asking if he's the father. The others are shocked by the revelation, and Nikolas admits he fathered Esme's baby. Elizabeth, later sent her uncle Kevin check on Esme in her hospital bed to confirm the diagnosis of memory loss, which he confirmed and Later, when Kevin told Dante at the police station that Esme had a significant memory loss, which Dante confirmed that Esme is not the hook killer after all.
On January 6, 2023, Esme was attacked and muffled by Liesl Obrchht with a cloth in her mouth, injecting her with a sedative which knocked her out, and almost smothered her with a pillow, because Liesl believes Esme was responsible for her daughter Britt Westbourne's death. Liesl was stopped by her niece Nina Reeves, before Liesl goes through her plans to take the baby out. Nina drags Liesl out of Esme's room. Later, Esme was unsettled, when she woke up soon after and told Elizabeth that a Doctor trying to kill her, but Liz acted like it must've been a bad dream.
On January 17, with her amnesia diagnosis, Esme was remanded to Spring Ridge, now living there unknowingly with both of her parents. On January 18, Esme meets with Heather, who speaks to her about her current situation, which includes her memory loss, her pregnancy, and warning her to staying away from Ryan, which Esme later freak out and she left the common room, not before leaving behind her friendship bracelet. On January 23, Heather saves Esme after she was threatened by another inmate named Ramona in the common room by putting a shank up to her side. Esme feels her baby kick, and Heather asks if she can feel it.
Esme suggests maybe when they know each other better. Heather knows Esme's scared about being a mother, but she'll be a natural. Esme still doesn't know how given she's going to prison. Heather assures her that very soon the cops will know she couldn't be the hook killer. Later, Dante and Sam McCall visited Esme to speak to her about her old nanny Maggie. Sam explains she's been looking into her background and believes she isn't the hook. Esme thanks her but doesn't remember anything about her past.
Sam believes there is someone who does and fills her in on her old nanny Maggie, and that her biological father might be in New York state. Sam offers to try and find him for her. Esme admits she has no money to pay, but Sam is willing to do this free of charge as it will help many of her friends. Esme answers, "Let's do it." Dante and Heather find Esme and Sam talking together. Esme reveals that Sam believes her father is in the state and is going to try and track him down, leaving Heather stunned.
On January 31, 2023, Esme was visited in the common room by Nikolas and Carolyn Webber, who diagnosed Esme of having dissociative amnesia due to a traumatic event. Aware of Nikolas' plans to have Carolyn erase Esme's memories like what did to Elizabeth, when she was a child, Carolyn changed her mind when she saw Esme was pregnant. She told Nikolas the deal is off and left Spring Ridge to warn her daughter. Nikolas was left with Esme alone and she told him that Spencer stopped by to visit her and told her that he is the father of the baby. But Nikolas admitted that he is the father of the baby, leaving Esme in shock.
On February 1, Nikolas tries to convinced Esme into sign a document, which he hands her, claiming it's just a formality. He promises to make sure her baby is waiting for her once she's free. She thinks she should have a lawyer read this over, and this is a lot to process at once. He leaves the paper with her to look over, and says he'll come back tomorrow. Alone, Esme doesn't know if she can trust Nikolas. Later, on February 2, when Heather grabs the papers Esme is looking over and reads them. She is stunned they are custody papers and asks where she got them. Esme explains from Nikolas, the baby's father. Heather is aghast and warns that the Cassadines are ruthless, and she must think carefully about signing her rights away. Esme believes Nikolas when he said this is only temporary until she gets out. Ryan is wheeled in as Heather warns Esme that men lie, all the time. Esme notices Ryan and thinks he is Kevin and gasps, โWhat happened to Dr. Collins?โ Heather explains it's Kevin's dangerous twin Ryan, and that he's locked in. Heather asks Esme again about the baby and why she's so eager to give it up. Esme admits she isn't, and this baby is the only thing she has. She also knows with this child, she's not alone. Heather tells her that's why she can't give up this baby. Esme promises not to make any decisions until tomorrow. Heather excuses herself to speak to Ryan and is furious with him as she assumes he knew about Nikolas and didn't tell her. She says Nikolas is after their grandchild, and the cops are onto him. She explains Dante and Sam were here and are looking for Esme's nanny. She assumes this nanny knows of Ryan by the look in his eyes, so it's time they bust out and take Esme with them.
On February 15, after Esme learns that Ryan and Heather were her biological parents, before the death of Ryan and Heather's arrest for being the hook Killer. Esme gave birth to a boy in Wyndermere Castle, with the help of his paternal grandmother Mayor Laura Collins and maternal great uncle Dr. Kevin Collins, and paramedics, while Nikolas is presumed dead prior to the baby birth. Later, in the Hospital, Ava reveals to Spencer how Ryan used Esme to get to him by sending her boarding school in order to seduce him, in order to break up his relationship with Nikolas and Ava, so that Ryan can have Ava all by himself.
On February 22, after Heather is brought into Esme's room by the police, and asks, "Aren't you going say hello to your mother?" She inquires how the baby is, and what she had. Esme says the baby is fine and it's a boy. Heather says just like her firstborn, Steven Lars. Heather can't wait to meet her grandson, but Esme says she'll never meet him where she's going. Heather explains that Esme will be taken back to Spring Ridge and she gets to keep her baby for up to 18 months according to the law. Heather says she'll work the system and get back to Spring Ridge in no time flat, and they'll all be together as a family. Esme seethes, "Never!" She vows this is the last time Heather will ever see her, and she'll never get near her baby. Esme yells for the guards to take Heather away. Heather cries all she wanted was to be a mother to her. Esme informs her, "My father is dead, and as far as I'm concerned, my mother is too."
As Heather is dragged out of Esme's room and sees Laura and Spencer in the hall. As Heather lashes out at Laura and blames her for filling Esme's head with lies about her, Spencer sneaks in to see Esme. Esme asks him how Ace, her baby boy, is. He says he is fine, and he and his grandmother will take good care of him while she's in prison. Esme is confused and thought she would get to keep him. Spencer scoffs, "In prison?" He assures her everything is already settled and her baby is in good hands.
On March 6, Esme filed for sole custody of her newborn son, so she would be allowed to keep him for his first 18 months while she is at Spring Ridge Prison awaiting her trial. Liz goes to see Esme, who asks to see her baby. Liz says she'll bring her the baby, but first, they need to talk. Liz believes Esme needs to know how she ended up in the hospital. Liz confesses how Nikolas locked her up at Wyndemere, and she found out and helped him by keeping her and the baby safe. Esme asks how she escaped. Liz says she jumped from a turret, which stuns Esme. Liz doesn't blame Esme for being upset with her, but she doesn't owe her an apology. Liz explains she thought she was protecting her and the baby at the time, and that she could be a danger. She reveals she's already given a statement to the police. Esme wonders if that is why Nikolas fled. Liz says it's possible. Esme asks Liz if she wanted her baby or if she was she trying to get rid of it and that's why Nikolas locked her up. Liz honestly doesn't know, but there was a time when she only thought Esme was capable of loving no one but herself. Esme feels her jumping put her baby in danger, so she imagines she must have been desperate. Liz tells her she's emerged as a new person with a blank slate, so take advantage of that. Spencer enters and says, "I couldn't agree more." Later, after Liz leaves them but first advises them to try and put the baby first. Spencer asks Esme to think about this baby and if it belongs in prison. She says it's her baby, not his, and not his father's now that she knows he locked her up. Spencer says he honestly didn't know about that, but it explains why she was gone for so long. Spencer says if she loves her son then she'd want him with a family who loves him. Esme calls him he's no better than his father and says she won't let him anywhere near her son.
On March 8, at the hospital, Laura visits Esme, but Esme doesn't want to talk to her. Esme says Liz told her what her son did, and she doesn't trust any of them. Laura says she only recently found out what Nikolas did. Esme rants all the Cassadines are horrible. Laura says she is not a Cassadine, and she is on the side of this baby, her grandson. Laura asks if she's ever given her a reason to believe she's lied to her. Esme says she hasn't, and she's been good to her. Laura promises Esme to make sure she is treated fairly. Esme wonders why she cares especially since everyone says she's a horrible person. Laura explains she is her grandchild's mother, and she was her age when she had her first child. She knows how scared she is, ands she was separated from her son for many years after he was born. Esme fears that is what is going to happen to her and Ave. Laura reminds her she hasn't stood trial yet, but she must put her son first. She wants Esme to think about whether prison is the right place for a baby. Just then, a guard enters and tells Esme she's going to be transferred back to Spring Ridge shortly, and her baby will be going with her. Even after Laura tried to appeal to Esme as a mother, she and Ace left GH for Spring Ridge Prison. She didn't want anything from Spencer, but when Ace started fussing, she relented to Trina's gift for him - a baby blanket. As she left, she extended an invitation for Laura to visit them anytime. She says she'd like that. Esme and Ace are taken into the elevator, and Spencer vows he will get his brother back and do everything he can to keep him away from that lunatic.
On March 15, Laura and Kevin arrive at Spring Ridge to find Spencer already there. Laura tells Spencer he can't be here. Esme walks in with the baby and asks what Spencer is doing there. She vents she thought she could trust Laura, and Laura insists they did not bring him with them and he is leaving. Laura pulls Spencer aside and whispers that she needs Esme to trust her, and he has to go. Laura blurts out, "You must respect her wishes and go Spencer." Spencer tells Esme this is not over, and storms out. Laura apologizes to Esme, but the young girl thanks Laura for meaning what she says. They sit down, and Laura tells Esme that she has every right to be angry with her son and grandson, but know that they do love her baby. Laura doesn't blame her for being suspicious of everyone, and Kevin says it's a good sign that her defenses are up. Kevin explains to her that he is also family without Cassadine baggage as he's her uncle. Laura tells Esme neither of them wants to take the baby from her, but they want her to think about whether prison is the best place for him. Laura tells Esme if she goes to Pentonville, that will be an even worse place for the baby. Laura reveals there is another option, and they could take care of the baby until she's out and ready. Esme admits if she'd trust Ace with anyone it would be Laura, but it's too complicated. She looks at Kevin and sees her father, and she sees Nikolas and Spencer when she looks at Laura. She has to trust her instincts and says her son is staying with her.
Laura thanks her for the visit, and sees she's made up her mind. Esme heads back to her room, and Laura breaks down. Kevin asks what she's thinking. Laura says she knows no matter what others think that girl loves that baby, and Kevin agrees. Later at Spring Ridge, Esme looks for Ace's binky, which she left behind in the common room. Trina appears, holds it up, and asks, "Is this what you are looking for."
On March 16, at Spring Ridge, Trina surprises Esme as she's looking for Ace's binky. Esme recognizes her as Spencer's friend, and one of the people she hurt according to her lawyers. They sit down, and Esme asks why she hated Trina so much. Trina asks if she's admitting she's guilty. Esme can't say, but everyone tells her that she's a terrible human being. Esme prays she never remembers that person and she just wants to raise Ace. Trina notes Spencer's baby brother is a real cutie. Esme snaps, "He's my baby and Spencer can't have him!". Trina tells Esme she didn't suggest otherwise. Esme asks if Spencer sent her, but Trina says Spencer doesn't even know she's here. Trina came to see how the baby was but does feel prison is no place for him. Esme says she can't imagine life without him, and she loves Ace so much. She is sorry for what she did to her and her friends, but she's not that person anymore. She laments to go to prison for something she doesn't remember doing isn't fair, and her lawyers say her father was influencing her. Esme has to put Ace down, but first she asks Trina if she passed the test. She assumes Trina came to see if she was lying. Trina says she's always been an excellent liar, and she did come to judge her for herself. Esme thanks her for her honesty, and says she is not lying about her amnesia. Esme heads out with Ace. Later, back at Spring Ridge, Esme receives a letter which she throws to the ground in shock when she sees it's from her mother, Heather. She eventually picks the envelope up and opens it. Inside is a card, and Esme appears terrified as she reads it.
On March 22, Spencer and Laura arrive at Spring Ridge, and Spencer thanks his grandma for putting him up as Sonny's place is getting crowded. Esme steps out with Ace and tells Laura while she's welcome to visit, Spencer is not. Laura says they have come with wonderful news, the DA is dropping the charges, and she's going to be released. Esme is stunned but says she and Ace aren't leaving. Esme tells them all she's known is life in a hospital and prison, where is she supposed to go with no money or resources? Spencer says he's paid for a room above Kelly's for her, and he'll cover the rent until she can find work. Esme can't believe Spencer would do this, but Laura says Spencer wants what is best for the baby. Esme asks if this room is big enough for her and Ace. Spencer admits it's not, but Ace can stay with him and Laura at her place until she's back on her feet. Esme refuses to allow them to take her baby away. Spencer lashes out that losing her memory still hasn't changed her, as she's putting her own wants and desires above her son's wellbeing. Esme accuses them of trying to separate her and her baby. Laura says that's not what they want to do, and realizes they should have consulted her about these plans, not sprung them on her. Laura asks what she wants and how they can help her. Esme warns them they won't like it. Later, Trina stops by Laura's place eager to see how Ace is settling in. Spencer invites her in, and says things didn't go as he thought they would. Suddenly, Esme walks out with Ace and tells him, โWe love our new room don't we Ace.โ
On March 23, Trina stops by Laura's to check on Spencer and the baby, only to learn Esme and Ace have moved in. Esme says thanks to Laura they are one big happy family. Laura tells Trina it's nice to see her, and Trina says she didn't mean to interrupt. Laura says she's always welcomed, and this is just a recent development. Trina asks if Spencer is returning to Sonny's, but he says he's staying here in case his brother needs him. Trina tells Esme that she is very lucky to have someone like Laura looking out for her. Esme admits she had her doubts about Laura's loyalties, but she has been good and kind to her. Trina hopes it works out, and Spencer offers to walk her out. Laura and Esme put Ace down, and then sit down to talk. Esme loved the song Laura sang to Ace. Laura explains she sang it to her own children. She knows Esme doesn't have happy childhood memories, but she can make them for her son. Esme reveals her mom warned her not to trust her or Spencer. Laura says Heather isn't someone to trust. The baby cries, so Laura gets up to take care of him. Laura soon returns with Ace, and says she thinks he misses his mommy. Laura hands the child over and excuses herself to warm up a bottle. In the hallway, Spencer tells Trina that he's sorry about this, but Trina gets it. Trina understands they had to get Esme out of prison, but warns him just because Esme doesn't remember doesn't make her a good person. She says the new Esme could be worse than the old one. Spencer feels that's another reason for him to stay, so he can keep an eye on Esme. Trina reminds him that Esme fooled him once before, but he says that was before he knew her, someone who showed him the truth. As Trina and Spencer move in for a kiss, they are interrupted by Esme, who came looking for Spencer. She assumed Trina had left. Spencer says Trina was telling him about PCU having a daycare in case he wanted to take summer classes. Esme says she's capable of taking care of her son, so he need not worry. Spencer thanks Trina for stopping by, and she heads out.
On March 24, At Laura's, Spencer brings Esme an organic herbal tea that is supposed to help promote lactation. She says, โIf you say so.โ Spencer tells her that drugging people is her thing. Laura interrupts and reminds Spencer that Esme is their guest and they want her to feel welcomed. Esme comments, โI won't stay anywhere I don't feel welcomed.โ There is a knock at the door and it is Victor, who announces he's come for his nephews. Laura tells Victor that he's not welcome here, and he either goes on his own or she calls security. Spencer says that won't be necessary, and insists he speaks with his great-uncle in the hall. They exit. Laura apologizes to Esme. Esme gets a bad feeling every time Victor is around. Laura says that is because he's a bad man. Laura assures Esme that she's protected here. Esme asks, โEven from Spencer.โ In the hallway, Victor warns Spencer that boy is a Cassadine and belongs with Cassadines. Spencer explains he is already working on putting Esme back into jail and gaining custody of his brother, who he won't keep from his great-uncle. Victor asks if he still needs his help. Spencer does, but they can't talk about it here. Spencer heads back inside and tells Esme and Laura he's sorry about Victor showing up. Spencer has to leave to pick up Trina for Cam's going away party. He departs, and Esme asks Laura about Cam leaving. Laura relays the news that he's going to Stanford. Esme says at least she didn't ruin his life completely. Esme knows she hurt both Cam and Spencer. Laura admits she did. Esme wonders why she's letting her stay here. Laura explains in part she's doing so for her grandson, but also she knows what it's like to be separated from your baby due to the Cassadines. Laura also believes in redemption, and she's trying to believe in Esme. Laura asks Esme if she can accept that she only wants what is best for her.
Esme notes even if she could trust someone, why would they trust her? Laura realizes she needs someone to take a leap of faith, so she'll be the first. Laura says they need to get to Cam's party, so she is going to leave Esme with Ace alone. Laura gives her money, several hundred dollar bills, in case of an emergency. Esme asks what's to stop her from just taking off. Laura believes she wants what is best for her baby, and she knows that means staying here. Alone with Ace, Esme tells him that Laura sounded sincere. However, she doesn't know what's stopping them from keeping him and tossing her out on the street. She won't let that happen and looks at the money Laura left her. Spencer arrives at Victor's Metro Court suite. He voices that he's worried Esme may try and flee with Ace. Victor assures him there is no way in hell Esme will raise a Cassadine heir. Victor offers to help him return Esme to jail by manufacturing evidence against her. Spencer asks for time to think this over. Back at Laura's, Esme tells Ace that Laura may be on their side, but not the others. She says it's time to split. She gathers up her things, Ace, and the money Laura left and heads to the door. When she opens it, she finds Cam standing there.
On March 27, At Laura's, Esme decides to take off with the money Laura left her, only to find Cam at the door when she opens it. He asks if she's going somewhere. Esme says she doesn't have to answer him, but he says this is his grandmother's house. She realizes he is Cameron Webber, one of her alleged victims. Cam assures her that she ruined his life. Esme invites him in to tell her more about what a horrible person she was. Esme swears she doesn't remember doing what she's been accused of, though she's sorry. He tells her to save her fake apologies. He asks where she was going, and she claims just for a walk. He says the old Esme lied a lot better. She thinks he'll be happy to tell Spencer and Laura she was about to run off, and he must love seeing her stuck here. Cam reveals he's one of the reasons she's free. Cam explains why he and the others dropped the charges against her and is honest that they didn't want her found not guilty out of sympathy and not being able to be convicted again if she got her memory back. He also says they wanted to keep Ace out of prison, and Spencer was willing to delay justice for his brother. Esme appreciates his honesty and says it's the first real thing someone has said to her. They sit down, and Esme worries that if she never gets her memory back, that everyone will still see her as a town pariah. Cam says perhaps not and speaks about Franco turning his life around. Cam reminds her that she has a support system here, and if she skips town she'll have no one. He points out it also won't help prove to everyone she's a changed person. Cam gets a message and says he has to get going but asks if she'll be fine. She says he doesn't have to act as if he cares. Later, Spencer and Trina arrive at Charlie's, and he asks Laura if Kevin is okay taking care of Ace. Laura explains Kevin had to leave and Esme is with the baby. Spencer can't believe he left her alone with the baby. Laura says Esme is a guest in their home, not a prisoner. Suddenly, Cam enters, followed by Esme and the baby.
On March 28, At Charlie's, everyone is speechless when Cam arrives with Esme and Ace. Esme insists this wasn't her idea, and Cam invited her. Liz says Cam can invite anyone he wants and tells Esme it's nice to see her. Esme scoffs, โI don't do well being locked up, as you know.โ Cam tells Esme that this is his party, and he doesn't want her disrespecting his mom. Liz says it's okay, and Esme suggests she go. Cam reminds her if she wants a life here then she has to make an effort. Esme agrees to stay. Cam speaks with Laura and Spencer and explains he stopped by his grandmother's and found Esme about to take off. He talked her out of it but brought her here just in case. Later, Spencer fumes to his friends about Esme. Cam suggests since Esme doesn't remember anything they should tone down the overt hostility toward her. Joss approaches Esme, who remains alone in the corner holding Ace. Esme knows what she's accused of doing to Joss and doesn't know why she'd do that. She swears she doesn't remember, doesn't want to, and just wants to be a good mom for Ace. He's all that matters to her now. Meanwhile, Spencer thinks about Victor promising him that Esme won't raise a Cassadine heir. After all the well wishes, Esme thanks Cam for inviting her and says his grandma is taking them home. She says it figures the one person who is nice to her is leaving town. Cam reminds her that his grandma has been nice to her as well. Laura joins them, wishes Cam luck, and she leaves with Esme and the baby.
On March 30, At the hospital, Spencer, Esme and Ace arrive. Ace is sick, and Esme tells a nurse that her son needs treatment right now. The nurse gives them some forms to fill out and says someone will be with them as soon as they can. Spencer advises Esme that berating the nurse won't get Ace treated any sooner. She tells him if she's not on her side then leave, but he refuses to leave his brother alone with her. They sit down and fill out the forms. Spencer says grandmother doesn't feel it's that bad. Esme knows her baby is sick. Spencer says she can't hide behind this angelic mother routine and Ace forever, she may have lost her memory, but she's still the same person. Esme, Ace and Spencer are shown to a room and told the doctor would be in shortly. Esme tells Spencer she knows they have reasons not to trust one another, but she wishes that could be in the past and they could get along for Ace's sake. Spencer says knowing what she has done to him, and his friends, is hard to forget. Esme says it's not good for Ace to see them fighting all the time.
Austin enters, and he recognizes Esme. She recognizes him as the man her mother tried to kill. She hopes he doesn't hold what her mother did against her and Ace. Austin assures her that he doesn't. He asks what is up with her baby, and she explains he hasn't been eating as much and has been flush. After examining the boy, Austin diagnoses Ace with a case of colic, and says he'll get him some probiotics and some information for her on soothing techniques she can use to help him. Spencer has to leave, and Esme mutters, โIt figures.โ He asks what that means. Esme says she needs to learn not to rely on him and Laura so much, so she needs to find a job. Spencer laughs that she's never worked a day in her life. He's already offered to pay for her and Ace, but Esme knows that's part of his plan to take her son. She vows she'll never give up Ace and orders Spencer to go. He leaves. After waiting for Austin to return, Esme decides to take a trip to the vending machines, only to run into Ava.
On March 31, Ava runs into Esme and Ace at the hospital. Ava notes the baby looks like his father, her husband, and rants about Esme destroying their marriage. Esme swears she is no longer the old her, and it's exhausting apologizing for someone she used to be. She says Spencer refuses to move on from her mistakes, keeps reminding her of them, and thinks Nikolas is some deadbeat dad. Ava is sorry that Nikolas isn't here to help her, but Esme says she's happy for him to stay gone. Ava is surprised as she thought she'd want Nikolas' financial help. Esme explains Nikolas tried to strip her of her parental rights and she and Ace are better off without him, and Ava probably is as well. Ava seethes that she knows nothing about Nikolas. Esme knows he slept with her. She swears she has changed and is trying to make up for the things she's done. Ava believes she has lost her memory, but also believes one day the old Esme, the one that delights inflicting pain on others, will come back. She warns her when the old her comes back, she will know, and she will finish what Esme started between them. Austin interrupts and gives Esme the formula they talked about, and says to call him if she has any questions. Esme thanks him and tells Ava she has changed for good. She says all she wants is what's best for her baby. Esme and Ace take off. Spencer returns to the hospital to pick up Esme and Ace. She tells him that they've been waiting for a while, but Spencer says he had to take care of something first. They head out together.
On April 7, At Laura's place, Esme and Ace watch the ball. Laura arrives and explains she had an emergency to deal with, otherwise she would have been home sooner. Laura sits with Esme and notes Ace is looking better and goes to touch him. Esme snaps, โDon't touch him.โ She quickly apologizes and says she just can't seem to stop being overprotective. She doesn't even like it when Ace is out of her sight. Laura says she understands, but he can sense her anxiety, and that's not good for him. Laura gets a call, which she takes. She asks where she is, and says she'll be right there. Laura tells Esme that she has to go. Later, Laura returns home and finds Ace's pacifier on the ground outside her door. She heads inside and Esme is out cold on the floor and the place shows signs of a struggle.
On April 10, Laura rushes over to Esme, who is out cold on the floor. Esme regains consciousness, but her head is pounding. She cries it all happened so fast, and this man forced himself in and took her baby. Laura promises her that they'll find her baby as Esme sobs. Soon Dante and the paramedics arrive, and Esme sobs that he took her baby. Dante asks who took her baby, and she says it was Nikolas. Shocked, Laura asks if she saw Nikolas. Esme admits she didn't see his face, but if not him then who, Spencer? Dante says they need to get Esme to GH to make sure she's not badly injured. Esme begs Dante to find Ace as he's all she has. Laura calls Kevin to tell him what happened to Esme and Ace and to have him watch over Esme. Later, Dante receives an email with the camera footage from the building surveillance. They look at the footage and see a man in a hoodie board the elevator with a gun. They later spot him leaving with Ace, and the man's face flashes briefly on camera. Laura recognizes him as Ambrose, Victor's bodyguard. Later, Jordan gets a call and reports to Robert and Felicia that Esme Prince was attacked and her baby taken. Robert and Felicia realize Victor's getting all his ducks in a row. Jordan stops by Esme's room, and she finds the girl having a nightmare about the man who took her baby. She doesn't understand why this man took Ace.
On April 11, Dante and Laura arrive to see Esme, and Jordan, who is still with her, promises Esme that they'll find her boy. Jordan and Dante leave to follow up on some leads, and Laura breaks the news to Esme that this was Victor's doing. Laura says it's just a matter of time before they locate Victor and bring her son home. Laura tells Esme she is proud of how brave she was in fighting back Victor's man for her son. Later Laura tries to call Spencer, but he's still not answering his phone. Esme ponders Spencer helped his uncle take Ace, but Laura believes Spencer is in just as much danger as Ace is. Laura decides to go find Esme's doctor and see if there is any news on her tests. Laura returns to Esme and says the doctor is going to release her in the morning, so she'll return to take her back home. Laura tells Esme that she can't promise she can protect her from everything, but she can promise they will bring Ace home and she'll make sure Victor is punished. Esme asks if she'll find Spencer too. Laura says they will.
On April 19, Laura arrives at General Hospital to pick up Esme but asks for her to wait while she speaks to a friend. Laura heads to see Curtis, while Liz gives Esme her discharge papers. Esme asks to speak with Austin as it might be a matter of life and death. Liz brings Austin to Esme, who worries given his kidnapping that Ace's colic isn't being treated. Austin assures her that it's not life-threatening. Esme eventually thanks Austin and Liz for comforting her, and she excuses herself. Austin hopes it all works out for Esme as he feels for her. Liz can't believe it, but so does she. Elsewhere, Laura asks Curtis if there has been any more word from Trina. He says there hasn't, and he's going to go down to the PCPD and find out what's taking so long to find the Haunted Star. She tells him not to do that as he'll just be in the way of their work. Laura feels they need to find a way to help without getting in the way. As they talk, Esme appears and tells Laura she's been released. Laura introduces Curtis to Esme, and Curtis explains they know one another. Esme assumes it's better she doesn't remember how. Esme excuses herself, and Curtis doesn't know how Laura puts up with her. Laura says she's the mother of her grandchild, and she also believes Esme has changed. Laura explains that Kevin says if Esme does remember, she may not revert to who she was. Kevin says the human mind and memory is a tricky thing, and she points out she's seen it first hand with Liz and Drew. Curtis realizes that's it, that Drew could be the one to help locate the ship. Esme returns, and she realizes Curtis is Trina's stepfather. She says she's sorry about Trina, and she's been very kind to her. Curtis thanks her and says he's sorry about her baby. Curtis decides to leave and tells Laura that he'll be in touch with more information soon. Laura suggests to Esme they go home, but she panics. Laura assures her they'll be safe, but Esme cries she doesn't know if she can handle going home with Ace not there. Laura embraces her.
On May 11, Laura calls Esme to come down to the hospital and then she joins Spencer and Ace in the exam room. Later, Esme rushes into the room and Spencer hands Ace over to her as she cries. Spencer says they all made sure Ace was safe and warm, including Trina. Austin enters to examine Ace and says Laura and Spencer need to step out. Later, Austin, Esme and Ace exit the room, and Austin tells Laura and Spencer that baby Ace is fine. Laura says they should all get back home. Esme, Spencer, Laura and Ace step off the elevator and see the others. Spencer tells Trina that Ace got a clean bill of health, so they are taking him home. Trina says she's glad his brother is okay. She watches as he leaves with Esme, Laura and Ace.
On May 17, Alexis stops by Laura's place, per invite, and brought a gift for Ace. Laura asks Alexis to sit and tells her how she and Kevin have done everything they can to make Esme feel at home, butโฆ Suddenly Esme appears with Ace and a bag. Laura tells her that Ace's Aunt Alexis stopped by to see him and brought a gift. Esme says this is a bad time and she's leaving. Laura asks where she's going. Esme replies, โAnywhere but here.โ Laura asks where she'll go, and how she'll pay for it. Esme points out she has a trust fund, but Laura reminds her she doesn't have access to it because of what she was accused of, and the trustees have locked it. Laura asks her to think about Ace. Esme says Ace is her life, but living here is suffocating, especially when Spencer is constantly making her second guess every decision she makes. Esme wonders when she gets to live her life on her own terms. Esme puts Ace down and returns. Alexis has a way to help Esme stand on her own two feet and offers her a job as a receptionist at The Invader. Esme comments, โA job answering the phone?โ Alexis asks if she has a degree or any job experience at all. Esme admits she doesn't, so Alexis says this is a chance to stand on her own. Esme assumes Laura put Alexis up to this. Laura says it's an opportunity. Ace cries, so Esme heads to his room. Laura hopes Esme takes this opportunity so she can put down roots here with Ace. Alexis asks why she looks so worried. Laura says she's worried about Alexis. Laura notes Esme may not remember what she's done, but she could revert to her old behavior. Alexis is aware of that, which is why she was worried about her living with them.

On July 19, Alexis catches Esme sneaking through her files - who points out they are about her. Alexis shares that she was approached about writing an article about Heather and Ryan and their reign of terror, and was doing research. They argue about families, identities, and shady pasts, with Alexis reminding Esme that she hasn't don't anything to clean her slate - that she has a past even if she doesn't remember it.
