Aki Aleong (Dec 19, 1934-Jun 22, 2025) was a Trinidadian-born Asian-Hispanic actor known for portraying Chaing Wu on the ABC daytime soap opera General Hospital.
Life and Career[]
A native of Trinidad who advocated for minorities throughout his career, Aleong also worked in lots of martial arts movies. His first important role was in the 1957 movie No Down Payment, which starred Joanne Woodward and Jeffrey Hunter. He is probably best known for portraying Senator Hidoshi during the first season of Babylon 5, as well as portraying Mr. Chiang, the aide to Nathan Bates in the weekly series of V: The Series. He also portrayed the character of Colonel Mitamura in Farewell to the King.
He starred as "Agent X" in the "Wong Fu Productions" YouTube short starring Ryan Higa, Agents of Secret Stuff. He played Principal Elder in Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story (1993), starring Jason Scott Lee, and was a trainer alongside Jean-Claude Van Damme in The Quest (1996).
And he was a bad guy again in Braddock: Missing in Action III (1988), playing the sadistic Vietnamese General Quoc, who murders the wife of Chuck Norris' Vietnam vet and then tortures him and his son.
Aleong died from complications of dementia in Los Angeles on June 22, 2025, at the age of 90. He was survived by his wife of 38 years Conchita, his children, Akina, Aliya, Aaron and twins Akian and Ari; his grandchildren A.J., Michelle, Jenelle, Katie, Andrew, Gage, Cilicia, Aralan and Adalan; and his four great-grandchildren.[1]
