Curtis Ashford and Dr. Portia Robinson are fictional characters and married couple on the ABC Soap opera General Hospital.
Casting[]
On November 19, 2015, Soap Opera Digest broke the news that Donnell Turner had been cast as Curtis Ashford, who would prove to be a valuable resource for a scheming Hayden Barnes-Cassadine (Rebecca Budig).[1]
He made his first appearance on November 30, 2015.
On February 26, 2020, sources confirmed that actress Brook Kerr, who was known for her role of Whitney Russell Harris-Crane on Passions, will join the cast of GH in the role of Dr. Portia Robinson.[2][3][4] She made her first appearance on March 5, 2020.

On March 10, 2020 during Marcus Taggert's wake at The Floating Rib, Jordan Ashford notices the annoyed looks between Ava Jerome and Portia Robinson. After Jordan follows Portia, she confesses to Jordan that she loved Marcus but his job always came first. Curtis Ashford walks in and Portia recognizes him. Trina Robinson is upset to see Curtis who she blames for her father's death. Portia apologizes to Curtis for Trina, but Curtis agrees with everything Trina said to him. Portia tells Curtis it has been years since they've seen each other.
On March 18, it is revealed that Portia and Curtis had an affair before 2003. When Curtis found out Portia was married, he ended the affair. On January 4, 2022, Curtis reveals that their affair was 20 years ago.
Portia was working at Mercy Hospital until March 25 when she started at General Hospital.
Curtis later tells Jordan about his prior affair with Portia. He finds out she was keeping secrets from him and they legally separate. Curtis later files for divorce, citing that their relationship fundamentally lacked the ease and trust necessary for a healthy union. During this transition he and Portia become closer friends. She helps him out as he sells his half of his PI firm to his partner and plans to open a new club called The Savoy.
On May 29, 2021, Portia kisses Curtis and then apologizes and leaves when she can tell it took him by surprise. Initially confused by the kiss, Curtis receives advice from friend Laura Collins. He admits to having romantic feelings for Portia but laments that it may be too soon after his divorce. Laura tells him not to delay his happiness, especially when it is standing right in front of him. When she suggests that Curtis call Portia to clear the air, the call is immediately interrupted.
Suspicious by how abruptly the call ends, Curtis heads to Portia's house and learns that an injured Cyrus Renault is holding both Portia and her daughter, Trina, captive at gunpoint. Curtis is instrumental in ensuring their rescue as well as Cyrus's arrest; however, in the process he is shot by Cyrus.
Portia triages Curtis until an ambulance arrives to take him to the hospital. While Curtis is recovering in the ICU, various people in his life arrive and individually attempt to wake him from his coma. Portia arrives last and thanks him for saving her and her daughter. She mentions that he has consistently shown up for them. Seconds later Curtis wakes up.
On June 8, 2021, after witnessing how familiar Curtis and Portia have become with one another, Curtis' aunt, Stella Henry confronts Portia stating that if she truly wanted what was best for Curtis, that she would back off and allow him to heal emotionally. For weeks after that, Portia is cagey around Curtis. Curtis comes to the conclusion that someone close must have warned Portia away from him.
On July 12, 2021, once he figures out that it is Stella, he seeks out Portia at the hospital to apologize on behalf of his aunt and to make sure that she backed away on her own accord and not due to Stella's meddling. Portia tells Curtis that she actually agrees with several of Stella's points stating that because Curtis is newly divorced, she fears that anything they could have may be transitional and that she is not interested in being his rebound. He asks if she is interested in a relationship.
When she affirms that she is, he tells her that they owe it to themselves to see how far they could take things. Portia voices her concerns citing that they have had a previous relationship at the wrong time and that she does not want to risk losing him from her life completely. She tells him that she would rather stay his friend instead which causes Curtis to ask if she is okay with settling.
When Portia states that she is protecting something good, Curtis counters that she is letting her fears shut herself off from something that could be great. Before leaving her, Curtis asks that she think about their conversation and if she would be satisfied with the possible regret of not taking the chance to be more than friends.
Portia unintentionally runs into Curtis and T.J. at the Metro Court pool. Portia proceeds to congratulate T.J. on passing his boards. Portia and Curtis exchange awkward, tension filled small talk. The exchange is so odd that he wonders if it's always going to be awkward between them. Portia reiterates that she meant everything she said in their last exchange. She tells him that getting with him while he's on the rebound isn't worth losing their friendship. He reassures her that she is no rebound. They admit that they miss things being the way they were, when they could just hang out. Portia suggests that they just go back to that and Curtis is doubtful that can happen.
While T.J. and Curtis are relaxing poolside, T.J. asks about the obvious attraction between Curtis and Portia. Curtis tries to avoid the question and T.J. points out that Curtis rushed to Portia's house when he thought she was in trouble and that Portia stayed at his bedside when he was in the hospital. Curtis makes it clear that vibe between he and Portia is a slow burn that started after Curtis and Jordan separated. He lets T.J. know that it doesn't matter, because Portia has elected to just be friends. T.J. asks if they made that decision because that's what they think they should do or because that's what they want?
Curtis goes to find Portia. He tells her that as friends they should get everything out in the open. Curtis lets Portia know if she wants to explore them, then he would really like that. Curtis wanted to make sure she was making the choice of her own volition and not because of what Stella said to her. Curtis tells her that he's going to his club. Portia remembers that it's the official grand opening. Curtis tells her that it's a big night for him, but it could be a big night for them. He then tells her if she changes her mind she knows where to find him.
On July 22, 2021, Terry and Portia discuss a night out, after some pushback from Portia, they agree to go to The Savoy. At the grand opening of The Savoy, Curtis and Portia share a passionate kiss and officially begin a relationship.
In October of 2021, Portia, T.J. and Nneka are questioned by a strange man about Curtis, on separate occasions. They eventually find out it's Marshall Ashford, Curtis's father. The father he believed died when he was a boy. Curtis is thrown by this revelation. He and Portia unofficially pause their relationship. Portia is there and available for him during this time, while also allowing him the space needed to deal with this new information.
Portia brings Thanksgiving dinner and their friends to Curtis at The Savoy, after he cancels because of his big emotions surrounding Marshall's return.
While Curtis is still dealing with his father's sudden return and lack of explanation, he starts to lean or Portia more. He and Portia share Christmas Eve dinner with his Aunt Stella. Curtis visits Portia at work to take his mind off his issues with his father. He reveals to her that he has big plans for them in New Year's Eve.
On August 24, 2022, Curtis and Portia get engaged.
On November 3, Portia agrees to marry Curtis on Valentine's Day 2023 in the Metro Court Ballroom.
On February 14, 2023, Curtis and Portia get married at All Saints Chapel and have the reception at the Metro Court Hotel. After the fallout from learning he might be Trina's father at their wedding, Curtis and Portia became estranged and he moved out temporarily. However, On May 25, 2023, he agreed to work on their marriage and move back in - at least to the guest room.
