On August 23, 2021, Mayor Laura Collins and her brother Martin Grey found out their brother Cyrus Renault had put out a hit on them and they were moved into witness protection away from Port Charles. Deputy Mayor Eileen Ashby served as acting mayor during Laura's absence.
Storylines
On December 20, 2021 in Flatland Federal Prison, Mayor Laura Collins talks to Eileen on the phone. Laura has emailed Eileen the details but from everything Eileen has said it sounds like she has made the right choice. Laura asks what else and Eileen says her proposal on creating environmental offset regulations is ready whenever Laura has a chance. Laura says she is looking forward to sitting down with Eileen in person. After all this screen time, it will be a welcome change. Eileen wonders if that means...Laura completes her thought by confirming she is coming home.
Later Victor Cassadine runs into Eileen as he is leaving Kelly's after visiting his great-nephew Spencer Cassadine at work. Victor says that he understands through their text that she has news about Laura. Eileen confirms that Mayor Collins is headed back to Port Charles. Victor says that the failed attempt on Laura's life has flushed her out just as he planned. He looks forward to seeing Laura again as she has always been a worthy adversary.
Laura thanks Eileen for taking her place as mayor while she was out of town. Eileen says it is a gift to have Laura back as mayor.
Eileen later eavesdrops on Laura who is talking to her husbandKevin Collins. Eileen calls Victor and tells him Laura is headed to the tree lighting in Rice Plaza. Eileen gives the introduction at the tree lighting ceremony and welcomes Mayor Laura Collins.
On February 22, 2022, Laura gets off the elevator at GH with Eileen and thanks her for taking care of something. Eileen was just happy to get out of her office. Laura sees Robert Scorpio pacing and goes to ask him about the search for Maxie Jones.
Eileen eavesdrops as Robert tells Laura that his ex-wifeAnna Devane, Drew Cain, and Dante Falconeri are still in Europe following up on Maxie’s clue but there has been a complication. Robert says he got a text from Felicia Scorpio in Switzerland. She flew to Geneva at the same time as the others left. Laura says she can’t blame Felicia and Robert agrees but says it is dangerous out there. His brother and her husbandMac Scorpio is also worried sick when he should be recovering.
Robert asks Eileen why she is there. She says she is meeting with hospital physicians and staff about a public health initiative. Robert says they have plenty of work to do. Eileen tells Laura she wanted to tell her its been delayed but the text didn’t say until when. Laura sends Eileen to get a definite time and Eileen goes to make a phone call.
Sam comes over to Laura and Robert and says she is working on a case and needs some background information on Victor. Robert says the world would be a much better place if Victor stayed dead. Laura goes over to Eileen who says the meeting was canceled for a patient emergency. Laura says to reschedule the meeting for tomorrow and then go home.
Eileen meets Victor on the pier and says they have a problem. Sam McCall, Robert, and Laura are getting too close.
On March 15, Laura leaves Eileen outside Charlie’s to meet with Dante, Sam, and Robert and discuss the plot about bringing down Victor. Eileen was trying to eavesdrop from outside but she comes in and convinces Laura to let her in on what is going on. Laura says she believes Luke may have been murdered. Then she tells Eileen to give her some space and Eileen leaves.
On March 16, Victor meets with Eileen on a footbridge where she tells him what Laura said. Victor says he took care of Anna and Felicia but he didn’t know Laura suspected.
Victor has Eileen answer his phone when Anna calls using Kurt's phone. Victor hangs up and tosses the phone off the bridge. He says that Kurt must have failed to kill Anna and Felicia. Eileen wants to know if Kurt will talk and Victor says that remains to be seen. Eileen asks what he will do about them. Victor says it is time for Plan B who is someone that Anna and Felicia will never see coming.
