Mobster Michael "Sonny" Corinthos, Jr., is the most prominent member of the Corinthos family. He is the son of Adela Corinthos and Mike Corbin (originally Michael Corinthos, Sr.) Mike once faced financial troubles and threats, leading him to adopt his mother's maiden name, Corbin, as his surname.
In Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, Mike abandoned Adela and young Sonny. Adela's affair with the married attorney Trevor Lansing, resulted in the birth of Sonny's half-brother, Ric Lansing. Following her split from Trevor, Adela and Sonny suffered abuse from her next husband, NYPD Det. Deke Woods, who ultimately killed her.
In 1993, Sonny arrived in Port Charles, owning The Paradise Lounge and serving as Frank Smith's lieutenant in his mob operations. In 1994, when Frank targeted Luke Spencer for elimination, Sonny formed an alliance with Luke to overthrow Smith. Sonny's takeover of Smith's criminal empire marked the beginning of his intermittent two-decade reign. In 1996, Sonny was reunited with his estranged father Mike, who came to Port Charles as Luke's chauffeur. Despite initial resistance, Sonny and Mike eventually reached a tentative reconciliation.
Following the closure of his strip club, Sonny acquired Penthouse #1 at Harborview Towers. He was accompanied by his close friend, Stone Cates, and his true love, Brenda Barrett. Stone, who was suffering from AIDS, was looked after by Sonny and his girlfriend, Robin Scorpio, in the penthouse until his passing.
Sonny also formed a tumultuous relationship with Carly Spencer. Despite the ups and downs, they fell in love and were first married in 2000. Sonny went on to adopt Carly's son, Michael Alan Corinthos, III, who was named after him.
In 2001, Mike's former lover, the con artist Janine Matthews, arrived in town, followed by her daughter Courtney Matthews. Janine disclosed that she and Mike had a fling in Las Vegas, resulting in Courtney's birth. Mike had abandoned them as he had done with Sonny, but Janine had deceived Courtney into believing Mike was dead. Upon learning the truth, Courtney quickly made amends with Mike, and Sonny took on the role of a caring yet overprotective half-brother. Months later, Sonny found out about another half-sibling when Ric came to Port Charles.
During Sonny's stormy relationship with Carly, he had a one-night stand with his lawyer, Alexis Davis, leading to the birth of a daughter, Kristina Adela Corinthos-Davis. Alexis, fearing Sonny's dangerous life as a mob boss, kept Kristina's paternity a secret for more than a year.
In the early 2000s, Sonny established Corinthos Coffee as a front for his mob activities. It has grown into a significant coffee import/export business, controlling many warehouses on The Waterfront, with its coffee being a popular choice in numerous restaurants, including the now-defunct Sonny's Coffee Shop and the still-thriving Perks Coffee.
In 2003, Sonny and Carly celebrated the birth of their son, Morgan Stone Corinthos, named after their best friend, Jason Morgan. The following year, Sonny had an affair with Sam McCall, resulting in a pregnancy. Sam chose to name the baby Lila McCall. That same year, Kristina was diagnosed with leukemia, and Sonny discovered she was his daughter. The only hope for Kristina's recovery was a stem cell transplant from Lila. Tragically, Sam's labor began prematurely, and Lila was stillborn. However, Lila's stem cells saved Kristina's life, giving Sonny joy in the midst of sorrow as he welcomed another daughter.
In January 2005, Sonny delighted his family by purchasing Greystone Manor, a mansion Michael and Kristina had wished for at Christmas, providing a home where he could ensure their security.
Courtney began an affair with Nikolas Cassadine and became pregnant. However, she died shortly after giving birth to their son, Spencer Stefan Niklosovich Cassadine, due to the encephalitis virus outbreak in 2006. Her father, Mike, was devastated by her passing.
In 2009, Olivia Falconeri arrived in town, followed by her son, Dante Angelo Falconeri. As a cop, Dante infiltrated Sonny's organization, leading Olivia to disclose that Dante was their son from their teenage years in Bensonhurst. Despite the initial shock, Dante and Sonny eventually developed a relationship. Dante settled in Port Charles, joined the PCPD, married Lulu Spencer, and they had a son named Rocco Falconeri.
That year, Sonny expanded his mob empire by acquiring Pozzulo's Italian restaurant, which became his headquarters.
In 2011, Sonny married his long-time love Brenda Barrett, but they divorced later that year.
In 2014, Sonny had a one-night-stand with Ava Jerome, which led to the birth of his third daughter, Avery Jerome-Corinthos.
On October 14, 2015, Sonny and Carly celebrated their fourth marriage. Tragically, in 2016, their son Morgan was killed in a car bombing. They welcomed their second child, a daughter named Donna Courtney Corinthos, on September 30, 2019.
In February 2020, Michael learned he had a son, whom he renamed Wiley Quartermaine-Corinthos (originally Jonah Michael Corinthos, with the Quartermaine surname later dropped), born from a tempestuous romance with Nelle Benson. Michael married Willow Tait as a strategic move to win Wiley's custody. Though they annulled their marriage, they reunited, married, and had a daughter, Amelia Grace Corinthos, in 2023.
The Corinthos family faced another tragedy on September 17, 2020, when Sonny's father, Mike, passed away from pneumonia due to Alzheimers disease.
In January 2021, after the demise of Julian Jerome, Sonny was presumed dead when the bridge he was on collapsed. Despite being declared deceased, Sonny was actually alive, found unconscious and suffering from amnesia due to hypothermia. He was taken in by Lenny and Phyllis Caulfield, who provided him with a job and lodging at The Tan-O in Nixon Falls, Pennsylvania. Three months later, Nina Reeves discovered him but chose to conceal his survival, partly as revenge against Carly for trying to separate her from their shared grandson, Wiley.
In September, a fire at The Tan-O triggered the return of Sonny's memory, prompting his return to Port Charles. He arrived just three hours after Carly and Jason's marriage, aimed at saving their business, and joyfully reunited with his children. However, when Nina's concealment was revealed and Carly found Sonny in bed with Nina, she initiated divorce proceedings. Sonny consented to move back into his former penthouse, allowing Carly to keep the manor.
The Corinthos family grew with the arrival of Mike's cousin, Gladys Corbin. Gladys' son, a Marine veteran presumed dead, Brando Corbin, was found alive. He gained Sonny's trust to infiltrate the Renault Organization as a mole. As a reward for aiding Dante's safe return from Turkey, Sonny had Dev Cerci legally recognized as Brando's son. However, Dev's life was cut short by a bomb at The Floating Rib in November 2020.
After a period of mutual attraction, Brando slept with his cousin Michael's ex-fiance, Sasha Gilmore, who later became pregnant. They were overjoyed but had to conceal the paternity from Cyrus Renault. Their son, Liam Mike Corbin, was born in November 2021 but tragically passed away a month later due to brain damage from oxygen deprivation during birth. In March 2022, Brando and Sasha eloped at Niagara Falls. Sadly, Brando was killed by The Hook serial killer in September 2022.
In April 2023, Michael remarried Willow. Later, in October, Sonny married Nina Reeves, but he shunned her and served divorce papers after learning she snitched on his "family" to the feds on New Years Eve.
