Storylines
On August 27, 2018, Dr. Francine Massey introduces herself to Curtis, Stella, and Jordan as they enter her office for a family counseling appointment. Massey also has the three introduce themselves and asks why they wanted counseling. Jordan said it would help get perspective and ease the tension between herself and Stella.
Stella was annoyed by this comment and wondered what assumptions Dr. Massey was writing about Stella based on her actions. Dr. Massey insisted Stella didn’t know the whole story and the doctor explained that her notes were only for questions she wanted to ask later. Stella understood and apologized.
Curtis talked about how Jordan was the widow of his brother Tommy and how Stella still blamed Tommy’s death on Jordan even though Jordan said she had tried everything she could do to fix her relationship with Stella.
Jordan told Dr. Massey about her affair with Tommy’s friend Shawn and how Shawn killed Tommy in self defense. Jordan admitted her mistake but said she couldn’t change the past. Thomas also deserved to take some of the responsibility that she had accepted.
This comment made Stella furious. She accused Jordan of blaming Tommy for his own death and claimed Jordan only thought family was only important to her when it was convenient. After all Jordan had her son T.J. shipped off to live with Shawn when things got to be too much.
Jordan countered that her undercover job was very dangerous but she made sacrifices to make sure T.J. was safe. According to Stella, Jordan didn’t know what sacrifice was. Stella gave up having her own life to raise Curtis and Tommy and she would never stop fighting for them.
Jordan came to the conclusion that Stella was resentful of Jordan and Curtis’ upcoming marriage because Stella didn’t have her own life. Curtis tried to stop the argument before it went any further and Dr. Massey pointed out that Curtis must be tired of always acting like a buffer between the two women.
Jordan apologized to Curtis. Then she told Stella that she had done an amazing job raising Curtis and Tommy but they were children twenty years ago. Stella had plenty of time to live her own life since then and Stella deserved her own happiness. Stella still resented what Jordan had said before.
To conclude, Dr. Massey said the first session had gone well. They would pick up the next session at this point. When Stella left the office, she said she wouldn’t return but Curtis told her all their problems couldn’t be solved in one forty-five minute session. Stella said she would think about returning.
On July 16, 2019, Kim tells Julian that she had her session with Dr. Massey earlier that day. In it she talked about her attempted rape of Drew because she wanted another baby after her son Oscar died.
On February 17, 2021, Jordan offered to go see Dr. Massey with Curtis again since they had been living apart for two months. Curtis declined the offer.
In March 2022, while seemingly being stalked by the memory of Franco, Elizabeth made an appointment with Dr. Massey for her son Jake, thinking that after all the trauma he's been through, that he's the one responsible. Finn runs into Jake in the elevator and takes him into a patient room. He finds out that Jake had told Dr. Massey that he had to go to the bathroom and then he left his appointment. Jake is upset that people are accusing him of stalking his mother. He is hesitant to say why he was in the library at the time Liz was delivered her self portrait at home. Liz comes into the room and Jake confesses to her and Finn that he has been chatting with Grandpa Jeff and Grandma Carolyn on the computer at the library. They started communicating with him after his father died. Liz is upset to hear that her parents are secretly talking with her son. She tells Jake he will need to apologize to Dr. Massey.
