Dr. Frida Navarro, MD is a fictional character from the ABC daytime drama General Hospital.
She was played by Christina Ferraro from April 25, 2019 to September 30, 2019. She returned on September 3, 2020 and has been seen on recurring basis from May 14 to November 23, 2021. She next returned on December 19, 2022.
Until June 20, 2023, her first name was "Sofia".
Storylines[]
In 2019 Carly Spencer learned that she was pregnant with her fourth child. She picked Dr. Navarro as her OB/GYN. Sofia was on staff at GH, and she advised Carly to undergo a series of tests because of Carly's age and medical history.
Carly gets a checkup after a traumatic kidnapping experience, learning that she and the baby are just fine.
In April 2019, Carly has genetic testing done on the baby.
On June 28, 2019, it is revealed that the baby has developed fluid around her spine, which could potentially cause some serious problems for the child. It will also cause Carly to have a C-section instead of a regular birth.
On July 25, 2019, Sonny Corinthos and Carly meet with Dr. Navarro for the ultrasound. She notices something during the procedure and tells them she needs to consult with a colleague and will be right back. She returns later and explains their child has Spina Bifida Myelomeningocele, a birth defect involving an improperly fused spinal cord.
They won't know the severity until closer to birth, and while many children go on to live full lives, some have complications that can include cognitive development issues. Carly will have to deliver by cesarean, and they will continue to monitor the child. She will also need to perform immediate surgery 2 to 48 hours after birth.
Donna Corinthos was born prematurely via c-section on September 30, 2019. After she was born, Dr. Navarro let the happy parents know that after examining the baby, that her Spina Bifida wasn't as bad as they thought but she still needed surgery which was successful.
On August 7, 2020, Maxie Jones was worried she was pregnant and set up an appointment with Dr. Navarro. A nurse let her know that Dr. Navarro was just called into a delivery and she isn't sure how long the doctor would be. Maxie had a pregnancy test run with the nurse.
On September 3, Dr. Navarro congratulates Peter August for helping Maxie deliver James West. She says that it is too early to tell if the baby is a boy or girl. Then she does an ultrasound and says the baby is perfect. Maxie schedules a follow-up in three weeks.
On October 13, Maxie and Peter go to a genetic testing appointment with Dr. Navarro. Dr. Britt Westbourne shows up and sees them instead.
On December 21, Maxie tells Peter that she had an appointment with Dr. Navarro and got a test to find out the gender of their baby. She opens the results with Peter and finds out it's a girl.
On March 5, 2021, Maxie is rushed to GH. Britt said that Dr. Navarro concluded Maxie collapsed due to stress.
On May 13, Sasha Gilmore calls her physician Dr. Navarro and says she needs something prescribed for morning sickness.
On May 14, Maxie plans to leave for Beechers Corners with Brook Lynn so Peter doesn't know about their baby being born. Peter and Maxie see Dr. Navarro at GH and she wants to induce labor right away.
Maxie and Peter both don't want to induce right now. Maxie's due date is next Friday. If Maxie hasn't given birth by then she agrees to let Dr. Navarro induce her at that time.
On June 1, Maxie is wheeled into the hospital after giving birth in the Pautauk State Park. Nurse Elizabeth Baldwin tells Nurse Jessica to get OB to the ER. Jessica tells Maxie that Dr. Navarro will be there soon.
On August 17, Brando Corbin and Sasha Gilmore get a sonogram of their baby in an appointment with Dr. Navarro. They decide not to find out if they are having a boy or a girl and their baby appears to be healthy.
On November 19, Sasha is rushed to the OR for a placental abruption and her son is removed by Dr. Navarro via C-section. He isn't crying and is quickly taken away by doctors.
On January 27, 2023, on the advice of Dr. Terry Randolph and after Dr. Navarro assures Michael Corinthos and Willow Tait that their baby is healthy and ready, and they decide to deliver her a few weeks early, so that the stem cells from her placenta and umbilical cord can be used to treat Willow's leukemia.
On February 23, 2024, Kristina Corinthos-Davis, T.J. Ashford, and Molly Lansing-Davis go in for a check-up with Dr. Navarro. They hear the baby's heartbeat and are offered the gender. Kristina wants to know but T.J. and Molly don't. They learn Kristina is 14 weeks along.
On January 3, 2025, Sasha Corbin heads to the hospital and asks the nurse to make a prenatal appointment with Dr. Navarro. The nurse-on-duty says she should talk to the patient advocate about some policy changes and the patient advocate is Felicia Scorpio. They have a seat and Sasha announces she's pregnant. Cody Bell is not the father and she's nervous. Felicia takes notes and Sasha explains she will be doing this all on her own. After they set up an appointment, Felicia asks if she's told her parents and adds that Holly might surprise her. Sasha will think about it. Felicia reminds her that she has a family that is more than happy to support her and help out. As Felicia is helping her fill out some paperwork, Sasha asks if Maxie might be willing to be her emergency contact since she already knows about the baby. Felicia says she cannot speak for Maxie, but she could put herself down as the emergency contact instead and Sasha happily agreed.
On January 16, Brook Lynn Quartermaine meets with Dr. Navarro for her appointment. The doctor asks about her pregnancy history, and Brook Lynn admits she had a baby as a teen. It was healthy, and she gave it up for adoption. She doesn't understand why she can't get pregnant now. The doctor assures her delivering a baby then does not diminish her chances now. After the exam, the doctor tells her they'll have her results in three to four days.
