Nurse Gabriela Garza, RN is a fictional character on the ABC daytime drama Port Charles.
Background[]
On her inaugural day at General Hospital, Gabriela, the empathetic sister of Emilio Garza, struck up a friendship with Joe Scanlon. She accepted an invitation to The Nurses' Ball, but felt let down when he subsequently withdrew. Upon discovering Joe's HIV exposure, Gabriela provided comfort during his anxious moments. Despite mutual attraction, they vowed to forgo intimacy. Lately, they contemplated relocating to Bounds Corner in Appalachia, seeking a new beginning while anxiously awaiting Joe's HIV test outcome.
During rehearsals for the Nurse's Ball, Gabriela encountered the enigmatic vampire, Caleb Morley. It was revealed through flashbacks that Caleb had bitten her neck. At the ball, her performance unexpectedly evolved into a striptease, and later, she and Joe consummated their relationship, celebrating his negative HIV result. Gabriela then abandoned Joe for the mysterious Caleb. When Joe attempted a parting gesture, Gabriela rebuffed him.
An accident caused her to scratch him, leading to panic as she tried to lick the wound. Anticipating Caleb's return, he did reappear to share a passionate moment, yet disclosed his involvement with another (Livvie Locke), coercing Gabriela to confront Livvie. Gabriela's visit led Livvie to thoughts of Caleb, prompting her to seek him out. Gaby later caught Jamal Woods stealing blood from the blood bank at GH and acted strange when Jamal had blood drawn.
Gabriela remained under the seductive vampire Caleb's control, even while confined in the psychiatric ward. It was only Caleb's demise that released her from his influence. Wracked with guilt for her deeds, which included assaulting and marking a biker for Caleb to slay, Gaby endured further torment from Caleb in the book 'Tempted.'
Her life was upended when, after attacking her brother Emilio Garza but sparing Jamal, Jamal uncovered records revealing she was his half-sister, adopted by the Garza family who had kept it secret. Gabriela quickly forgave them. With Caleb permanently out of the picture, she began to rebuild her life, returning to work at the hospital. When Jamal's daughter Hope required a kidney transplant, Gabriela did not hesitate to donate one. She also faced challenges dealing with her rebellious brother Ricky Garza, the family's black sheep.
As Jamal's life unraveled, Gaby, in her attempt to assist him in an alley, fell and injured one of her kidneys. She recuperated, and unexpectedly, Joe came back to town. Learning of her recovery from her peculiar behavior, he sought another chance. Gabriela embraced Joe's proposal for a fresh start and a position at his clinic in Appalachia.
She urged her quarreling brothers, Jamal and Ricky, to mend their relationship, as she would no longer be there to mediate. After being discharged from the hospital and a farewell party hosted by Joe's family, Gaby and Joe set off to begin their 'happily ever after' together.
