Casting

Actress Bonnie Burroughs joined the cast of General Hospital as Gladys Corbin on July 3, 2019. She made another appearance on September 3, 2019.

On December 20, 2019, Soaps.com announced that Burroughs will return to GH as Gladys during the week of December 23. She returned from December 26, 2019 to February 3, 2020.

On September 28, 2020, Soap Opera News announced that Burroughs will return to GH as Gladys during the week of October 12. However, she appeared a week earlier than originally scheduled. She returned from October 9 to October 12, 2020.

On February 27, 2021, it was revealed that Burroughs will make another return to GH as Gladys during the week of March 15. She returned on March 16, 2021.

On February 27, 2022, it was revealed that Burroughs, who hasn't been seen since January 18, 2022, will return to GH as Gladys during the week of March 7. She returned on March 9, 2022.

Background

Gladys Corbin is the cousin of Mike Corbin and she had a son named Brando. According to Mike, Brando's father was a deadbeat who never married Gladys and left town. Brando was allegedly killed in Iraq. Sonny paid her to pretend that Dev Cerci is Brando's son, and therefore, her grandson Devin Corbin. When Brando was found to be alive, he legally claimed Dev.

Storylines

On July 3, 2019, Sonny met with Gladys in a café at Bridgeport and she wasn't too happy to see him. He brought up her son Brando and asked for her help. He told her about a kid named Dev Cerci and that he needed her to pretend to be his grandmother by saying her son Brando had a kid named "Devin Corbin." Gladys was initially reluctant but Sonny paid her a large sum of money and she eventually agreed.

On September 3, Gladys showed up at the Metro Court and spent some time with her cousin Mike Corbin and met Sonny's wife Carly. Mike asked Gladys about Frankie and Gladys said Frankie isn't here anymore (implying he died or broke up with Gladys). She also met her "grandson" Dev and they hugged in front of Jasper Jacks since it was all for show. Sonny later got a private moment with Gladys and warned her not to renegotiate the terms of their deal they made.

On December 26, Gladys returned to Port Charles and visited Mike at Turning Woods. Sonny was surprised but was not happy to see her and Gladys insisted that her visit has nothing to do with their arrangement. After Gladys shared a story about having a friend named Dot, who also had Alzheimer's and how Dot died, Mike and Sonny invited Gladys to stay for Christmas.

On January 30, 2020, Gladys and Carly are caught in a shootout at one of Sonny's warehouse and one of Sonny's warehouse workers who helps them is revealed to be her presumed dead son Brando. Gladys knew Brando was alive and claimed he was dead so she could cash in on his life insurance policy.

Gladys agrees to keep the secret that Brando is not really Dev's father. Sonny gives Gladys a car to keep her quiet.

On February 3, Gladys went back to Bridgeport (confirmed by Carly on October 12).

On October 9, Gladys returned to town and demanded Sonny give Brando a bigger job beyond working at a garage. She is turned down and runs into Cyrus Renault who introduces himself.

On December 29, Cyrus tells Brando that Gladys informed him (Cyrus) that Dev wasn't Brando's son and was in the country illegally.

On March 16, 2021, Gladys returned to Port Charles again and went to see Brando at the hospital. After she hugged him, she claimed that she's been back in town for the past few days but has finally worked up the courage to see him. She said she would be in town for a while. Gladys asked Cyrus to get her a place at the Metro Court.

On March 18, it was revealed that Gladys helped Cyrus and Peter August frame Jason Morgan for Franco Baldwin's murder by pretending to be a witness against him.

After Sasha gets clean, she breaks up with Michael and grows closer to Brando. Gladys sees this and warns Brando about getting into a relationship with another person who is in recovery.

On April 15, Sasha visits Brando at his garage, where she deduces that Cyrus is blackmailing Brando into working for him using the late Dev Cerci's illegal status and his closeness to Brando. After revealing she and Michael broke up, she and Brando finally kiss and have sex in the car he is working on.

On May 13 in the Metro Court bathroom, Gladys overhears Sasha call her doctor about getting something for morning sickness.

On July 28, Brando kicked her out of his apartment for the baby's nursery, and Sasha hired Gladys as an admin for the Deception offices.

On August 5, Sasha convinces Brook Lynn Quartermaine to take on Gladys as her assistant for sales/marketing. When asked about her work background, Gladys tells her she was in sales at "Colby-Kleen", which was a multi-level marketing/pyramid scheme that landed its CEO in jail. Gladys then orders expensive food on the company card and insults a potential customer.
