Britt having hand tremors, a symptom of Huntington’s (2022)
Huntington's Disease is a rare, inherited disease that causes the progressive breakdown or degeneration of nerve cells in the brain.
History[]
After finding out from Cesar Faison's autopsy that he had Huntington’s disease, Maxie tells Faison's son Peter August this information. Peter did a blood test with Dr. Griffin Munro's help, and on March 16, 2018 like his nephew or niece, it's confirmed that he hasn't inherited Huntington's disease from his father. Peter’s siblings are also tested. Nathan West was deceased but his corpse was checked and it was confirmed he didn't have Huntington's. Liesl Obrecht said that her daughter with Faison, Britt Westbourne was tested in prison and she was negative too.
On December 28, 2020, Britt began having hand tremors.
On May 12, 2021, Britt tells Jason that she thinks she has Huntington's disease. Her father had it so there is a 50% chance she has it too. She lied to her mother when she told her she took the test and it was negative.
On May 19, Britt goes to a Canadian clinic with Jason. Britt finds out her shaking hands are postural tremors which are not a symptom she has Huntington's. She is stressed and needs to take better care of herself. But there is still the possibility she has Huntington's so Britt agrees to be tested for it.
On May 24, Britt gets confirmation that she has the genetic marker for Huntington’s. Victor Cassadine would later tell Britt that he somehow knew about her Huntington's diagnosis without her telling him.
On June 4, Britt tells her mother that she lied to her and she never got the Huntington's screening in prison but she actually has the genetic marker for Huntington's. Britt told Liesl about confiding in Jason too.
On November 2, 2022, Britt begins having trouble swallowing and is later shown having hand tremors again.
On November 11, Britt confides in Austin Gatlin-Holt that she has Huntington's. He later arranges for her to meet with an expert in the disease, Dr. Talone who tells Britt she is stage 3 of Huntington’s and has maybe 5 to 15 years left and will need assistance living in as soon as 18 months.
