The Jeromes are a fictional family on the American soap opera General Hospital. They are best known for their mob business and arts and media empire.
Supercouple Jason Morgan and Sam McCall is part of this family.
The criminal syndicate was originally led by Victor Jerome, followed by his son Julian Jerome. From April 2014 to February 2015, "Fluke" took over as the financier and leader of the organization.
History
The Jerome mob family made their entrance into Port Charles in 1987, setting themselves up as adversaries to the McKay mob family. Duke Lavery and his father, Angus McKay, were incarcerated for their mob-related crimes. Subsequently, Jonathan Lawrence was apprehended as a hit-and-run suspect. However, Jonathan was actually seeking vengeance against Duke and Angus for the murder of his cousin, Evan Jerome, who bore a striking resemblance to him. Angus's suicide marked the end of the McKay/Jerome rivalry, and his daughter Camellia McKay, along with Duke, were tried for Evan's murder. During the trial, it was disclosed that Camellia had killed Evan in self-defense during an attempted rape. Their acquittal did not sit well with Evan's widow, Veronica, who ordered a hit on Camellia. Victor Jerome, Evan's father, managed to cancel the hit and exiled Veronica.
In 1988, Duke's wife, Anna Devane, was abducted. Victor's youngest son, Julian Victor Jerome, sought Duke's help to make the family business legitimate and offered his assistance in finding Anna. Duke agreed and joined the Jerome mob in his quest. Duke located Anna, but only after her former husband, Robert Scorpio, had already found her. A meeting with the Carter family, one of their mob rivals, turned into an ambush where Julian was shot saving Duke. As he lay dying, Julian extracted a promise from Duke to assist Victor in legitimizing the mob, although Duke was determined to leave the Jerome mob family behind.
Victor's daughter, art dealer Olivia Jerome, took control of the organization and became fixated on Duke. After a brief affair, her advances were rejected, leading her to attempt murder. Tragically, Anna was harmed instead, resulting in the loss of her and Duke's unborn child. Olivia was later exposed as the mastermind behind Julian's attack, aiming to seize the organization. Contrary to appearances, Julian was alive, with Victor orchestrating a fake death.
Julian revealed himself and confronted his sister about her role in his shooting. Rejecting Olivia's scheme to unite the Jerome and Carter families, Olivia and her accomplice, Dino Antonelli, abducted his girlfriend, Cheryl Stansbury. In a chaotic turn, Cheryl accidentally shot Olivia, inducing a coma. Julian pinned the incident on Anna, leading to her arrest. Dino, identified as Victor's illegitimate son with Dimitra Antonelli, was the actual shooter, seeking control over the Jerome legacy. Both Dino and Dimitra were apprehended and imprisoned. Olivia, now with a brain injury from the shooting, was committed to Pine Circle Sanitarium.
Duke testified against Victor, hoping to incarcerate him, while Anna temporarily released Olivia to extract a confession. Duke's testimony and Olivia's confession resulted in Victor's imprisonment. Victor escaped prison to meet Lucy Coe, who he adored. Rejected, he ingested an engraved pendant meant for her, choked, and perished. Lucy sought Alan Quartermaine's aid to dispose of the body in a lake.
Cheryl, pregnant with Julian's child, fled the town in fear. She fainted at a bus station and was taken to a clinic, where she delivered a son. She was misled that her child had died, but in truth, he was sold on the black market to Bobbie Spencer, who named him Lucas Jones.
In 1990, following Victor's death, Julian assumed control of the organization. He devised a scheme to eliminate Duke and permanently discredit his sister by implicating her in the murder. Julian abducted Olivia, who had fled from Pine Circle. Upon learning of Julian's intent to murder Duke, Olivia attempted to alert Anna. However, before she could, Julian shot her, and she was presumed dead. Subsequently, Julian and Duke faced off, resulting in both being shot and presumably dead.
When Lucas became sick, Bobbie investigated his biological family and discovered that Lucas was Cheryl's son. She initially withheld this information but had to relinquish Lucas when Robert Scorpio uncovered the truth. Lucas lived with his biological mother until her untimely death in a car crash. Cheryl's will specified that Bobbie and Tony Jones should raise him. Following a legal dispute with Cheryl's sister Tiffany Hill, Tony and Bobbie gained custody in 1992.
In 2012, it was disclosed that the man Julian allegedly killed was not Duke, but an imposter named Jonathan Paget; Duke was, in fact, alive.
In 2013, it emerged that Julian had not died but was instead placed in the witness protection program. He resurfaced in town with a new identity as Derek Wells, the new proprietor of the Port Charles Press and Crimson Magazine. He was accompanied by his sister, Ava Jerome, Victor's illegitimate daughter with Delia Ryan. Ava also brought her daughter, Lauren Katherine Jerome, from a past affair with Silas Clay. Julian and Ava quickly devised a plan to usurp control of the Port Charles mob from Sonny Corinthos.
Under his alias, Julian discovered that a one-night stand he had with Alexis Davis in their youth resulted in a daughter, Samantha McCall. Sam has a son, Daniel Edward Morgan, with her ex-husband, Jason Morgan. Upon revealing his true identity, Julian attempted to reconcile with his family and learned about Lucas, who had returned to Port Charles after many years.
In 2014, Ava had a one-night stand with Sonny, resulting in the birth of her second daughter, Avery Jerome-Corinthos.
In 2015, Julian had a one-night stand with Olivia Falconeri, which led to the birth of his second son, Leonardo "Leo" Francisco Falconeri who was later adopted by Olivia's husband, Ned Quartermaine.
In January 2017, it was revealed that Olivia Jerome was alive, having survived Julian's attempt on her life. She had entered the witness protection program and returned to Port Charles, seeking revenge and taking over as the head of the Jerome mob family. After a three-month reign of terror, Olivia was arrested and sentenced to D'archam Asylum.
In February 2017, Sam welcomed her second child, a daughter named Emily Scout Quartermaine with former Navy SEAL, Drew Quartermaine.
On November 27, 2018, Kiki was discovered deceased by newlyweds Curtis and Jordan Ashford, having been murdered by Ryan Chamberlain. Ava was devastated by her daughter's death.
In May 2020, Julian was coerced into marrying Kiki's half-sister, Janelle "Nelle" Benson, after she discovered Julian's knowledge of his adoptive grandson's death and his role in the car accident that left Lucas in a coma. Using this leverage, Nelle forced Julian into marriage to secure custody of her son, Wiley Corinthos, who was also Julian's former adoptive grandson turned step-son.
In November 2020, Julian was coerced by mobster Cyrus Renault into planting a bomb at The Floating Rib restaurant, targeting his former son-in-law, Jason Morgan. The explosion resulted in the deaths of Dev Cerci and Dustin Phillips, and severe injuries to Franco Baldwin and Lulu Spencer. Subsequently, Julian confided in Ava, while Jason and Sonny discovered Julian's involvement in both the bombing and the baby switch. Ava, aware of her brother's actions and anticipating retribution from Sonny and Jason, resolved to kill Julian herself. However, as she was poised to shoot, Sonny and Jason arrived at Wyndemere Castle, distracting her and allowing Julian to escape by leaping from the parapet. He survived the fall but was later mortally wounded by a hitman employed by Cyrus. Julian managed to reach a secluded bridge, where he encountered Sonny, struggled briefly, and succumbed to his injuries. The bridge's collapse sent both Sonny and Julian into the water; Julian's body was recovered and declared dead, while Sonny ended up in Nixon Falls, suffering from amnesia.
In February 2024, Olivia Jerome was murdered while incarcerated.
