On June 30, 2021, Spinelli talks to Diane in Charlie's Pub as a man walks in and sits down. Carly calls Diane and says she needs to talk to her.
Diane leaves and the man asks Spinelli if he is Damian Spinelli. He says he is and the man introduces himself as Joseph Novak but says his friends call him Joey.
Spinelli says he is late for an appointment and tries to leave. Joey says Spinelli should be flattered. His special talents have been noticed by the Novak family. Spinelli said his talents are not available to be used by the Novaks. Joey says that Spinelli doesn’t have a choice. When the Novaks see something they want, they take it.
Jason and Britt walk in. Joey asks Spinelli if he will be smart and volunteer or if he will be drafted. Either way the result will be the same and Spinelli is joining the Novak family. Jason puts his hand on Joey’s shoulder and asks if there is a problem.
Jason says he needs a word in private and takes Joey outside. Spinelli tells Britt that it is lucky that Jason showed up. That was Joey Novak who is part of a crime family called the Novaks. Spinelli believes Joey is the favorite nephew of the boss Vincent Novak. Britt wonders if this is what Jason was talking about earlier.
Jason comes back in alone and says he sent Joey home with a message for his uncle. Britt notices blood on Jason’s hand.
Novak vs Corinthos (2021)
On July 15, Joey arrives at the Metro Court Pool and Spa during its first day. He talks to Carly about Jason not scaring him off. Brando sees Carly getting upset and tells Joey that any Novak can take their car to Brando’s garage to get it worked on for free. Joey is pleased with this response and leaves.
On August 5, Joey goes over to Josslyn and Cameron at Kelly's and tells her he knows she is doing volleyball at PCU and maybe he will see her at a game. Josslyn tells Joey that she will let Jason know about Joey. Later Jason confronts Joey who is with three henchmen outside of Kelly’s. Jason theorizes with Carly that Joey may be working with someone as he isn’t afraid of Jason.
On August 30, Vincent meets with Carly at the Metro Court and apologizes for Joey. He says Joey is being sent out of the country indefinitely.
On September 3, Joey and two henchmen interrupt Jason’s bachelor party at The Savoy. Joey is mad that he is going to be sent out of the country. Spinelli punches Joey and Dante arrives on the scene and threatens to arrest everyone and take them to jail.
On September 16, Vincent tells Jason that Joey was given a one-way ticket to Gdansk, Poland.
On November 3, Joey walks out to the pier. A man named Nicky is seated on a bench and he gets up to hug Joey when he sees him. Nicky welcomes Joey back to town and asks how Warsaw was. Joey corrects him that he was in Gdansk and says all was well until he got the news. Nicky gives his condolences for Joey’s uncle Vincent Novak's death and says he was a great man.
Joey explains that the Corinthos organization was behind Vincent’s death. Now that he is back in town, they will pay. Joey asks if Nicky has been following "her". Nicky says he has and he knows exactly where "she" is. Joey says he can’t wait to see Carly again.
Joey and Nicky show up in The Savoy while Gladys and Carly are there. Nicky stands next to Gladys as Joey threatens Carly. Curtis throws Joey out and a bouncer kicks out Nicky while Joey yells out threats.
On Pier 54, Joey tells Nicky that the Corinthos organization is going down now and he will run the town. The Savoy will make a good cover business. Nicky skeptically asks if Joey really wants to buy the business they just got thrown out of. Joey says he will enjoy giving Curtis an attitude adjustment and Curtis will sell to Joey or else. Joey tells Nicky to call the Novak mob family and schedule a meeting. Nicky says he will and he runs off. Marshall suddenly walks onto the pier and Joey is surprised to see him.
On November 4, it is revealed that Joey was severely beaten on the pier and he is currently unconscious at the hospital.
On November 5, Nicky visits Joey in the hospital. Nicky asks Joey if he is getting any good drugs. Joey says they aren’t good enough and he hurts all over. It happened so fast after they were kicked out of the club and Nicky went to go to his car.
Nicky asks if Joey remembers who it was or how many there were but Sonny’s bodyguard Frank opens the hospital room door and Sonny comes in. Nicky greets Sonny and tells him Joey just woke up. Joey doesn’t say anything and Nicky explains that Joey is still groggy. Sonny tells Nicky to take a hike and Nicky apologizes to Joey and leaves. Sonny instructs Frank to close the blinds as Nicky watches through them. Sonny tells Joey that he threatened Sonny's wife and there’s no coming back from that. Sonny convinces Joey to step down and give Sonny his territory. Joey will have to deal with the Novaks himself. When Sonny opens the blinds after his visit, Nicky is still there and he quickly runs off.
