Katherine Delafield is a fictional character on the ABC soap opera, General Hospital.
Background
Katherine was a world renowned concert pianist. Her parents Gilbert and Merle Delafield both died in a mysterious plane crash in 1984. Her sister Janice Delafield died of pneumonia in Buffalo in 1987.
Storyline
Katherine returned to Port Charles on December 16, 1988 from a concert tour to her cabin. She found a passed out Robert Scorpio sleeping there much to her surprise. Her accountant had rented out the cabin in her absence.
She wanted to kick him out the cabin as it was her retreat where she went to practice. Eventually they worked out a deal, where she would practice there in the day, and he would sleep there at night insuring they would never run into each other.
Her boyfriend Paul Devore came back to town to ask her to marry him shortly after, they became engaged on January 6, 1989. He was actually conspiring with her distant cousin Althea Cartwright to kill her. She survived a mysterious accident on stage when a lighting rig fell. On the way home she crashed and hit a light box and the car exploded leading to her presumed death.
She appeared on Robert's doorstep very much alive about a week later, she had been in Paris and got spooked. He told her to remain dead until they found who was trying to kill her, she got bored and reappeared alive to her housekeeper Mary, and Paul and Althea.
Eventually she would fly to Los Angeles to see Paul to break up with him, and he would kidnap her and attempt to mummify her. Robert would rescued her.
They had spent a lot of time together and Katherine had feelings for Robert, they began dating. He was very worried for him after Tanganeva came to town and predicted he would be killed by a flaxen hair creature. They would become engaged in December of 1989.
Mary's nephew would stroll into town to see her aunt, she and Jimmy O'Herlihy had grown up together, he would attempt to kill Robert by poisoning his shaving cream, she helped Robert fake his death on New Years Eve.
Her wedding to Robert scheduled for March 16, 1990 was postponed when Robert found Julian Jerome's dead body. When Terry Brock left town, she bought Duke's from her in April 1990 and re-opened it as Delafield's in June 1990 with Frisco Jones as her headliner act.
She ends up breaking up with Robert after he mutters his ex-wife Anna's name in his sleep, and he dodges her questions about it,
In August she flew to the small island of San Cristo trying to track down Robert, and would blow his cover leading to his arrest by Remondo. He then pretended to be dead and they escaped. On the island they had met a young boy named King who helped them, he would up as a stowaway on their plane. She would let him stay with her.
In September she attended a party for the President of Santo Moro, Comargo in Washington where she was arrested as a suspect after he fell ill. She and Robert where detained but eventually let go.
On Thanksgiving November 26, 1990, she proposed to Robert and he turned her down. She showed her plans for an extended world tour she was going to take. They would say their goodbyes, she asked Mary to stay behind to help run Delafield's with Angel. She and King left town.
Off screen on December 6th, she spoke with Robert and they decided to take her engagement ring and have it cut into a pair of diamond earrings for Robin.
