Mason Gatlin[1] is a fictional character in the ABC daytime drama General Hospital.
He was portrayed by an unknown actor on June 15, 2022 and returned as Nathanyael Grey from July 20 to November 4, 2022.[2] He next returned from January 20 to November 29, 2023.[3]
On June 15, 2022 at Pautauk State Park, Maxie Jones notices Austin Gatlin-Holt isn't at the campsite while she is gathered around the fire with others. Austin meets a man in the woods and says he made his point. The man appears and Austin tells him to understand something. The next time he wants to talk to Austin, find him while he is alone. Leave Maxie and her friends out of it.
On July 11, Austin gets a phone call while watching the fireworks when on a picnic with Maxie and Damian Spinelli at the park. Austin tells the person on the phone that he was only in town for a camping trip and he is not in Pautauk. He says the person needs to live up to their end of the bargain before Austin hangs up. He joins Maxie again and Spinelli excuses himself. Maxie asks if Austin is okay as he isn't listening to her. Austin says it was just old memories but he is much happier being in the moment with Maxie.
Austin meets with Mason (2022)
On July 20, while on The Haunted Star, Austin gets a text from the same person that says "Come to the starboard deck or I come in and get you. M." Maxie says she hopes it isn't the hospital and Austin says he will be back and leaves to meet M on the deck. He tells M that he cannot be seen with him. M says to be careful as Austin will hurt his feelings. Austin says he was really clear about this when M came to visit him at the campsite and asks why M is there.
M says that Austin stopped responding and forced "our" hand. Austin says he will be more responsive but M says it is too late and he is there to deliver a message that Austin's time is up. Austin laughs and M says Austin needs to head back to Pautauk as this is non-negotiable. Austin says he doesn't answer to M who agrees and says that Austin does answer to his boss. Austin asked if "she" sent a message and M reads it from his phone. Austin's gambit in Port Charles has failed and it is time to return to the fold. Austin asks if M is there to make it happen. M says physically if necessary. Austin asks what happens if he isn't ready to go and M mentions Maxie being inside.
Britt Westbourne is walking into the ship when she sees Austin and M talking. She asks Austin if he has seen Brad Cooper. M thanks Austin for the chat and leaves. Britt asks who that was and Austin claimed he was a stranger who was asking for a light. Britt noticed the chat looked intense. Austin claimed he was giving the man a speech about the dangers of smoking.
On August 11, M calls Austin who tells Maxie he is going to Pautauk for a few days. Austin later tells M on the phone that he is going home to Pautauk to talk to "her".
On August 19, M meets with Austin at the pool and is introduced to Maxie and Spinelli as Mason, Austin's country cousin. Mason is interested in the upcoming Quartermaine picnic but Austin doesn't want him going.
On August 26, it is revealed that Mason is a Gatlin cousin when he shows up at the picnic. Ava Jerome overhears Mason talking to Austin. Mason decides Ava heard too much and she is chased by Mason with Austin following behind until Ava is stabbed by The Hook. Austin later says that Mason wasn't with him the whole night of the picnic.
In September, Mason tells Austin at the hospital that a patient will be brought in next week. Britt sees them together and Austin introduces Britt to his cousin Mason.
On September 29, Mason texts Austin and he comes to the hospital where Mason has the patient with him. Austin takes the man, Gordon, to a room. Mason says Austin can skip the usual patient questions and just move on to injecting Gordon who has a stomach injury.
In October, Mason hints that he and Austin might be going to Pautauk for Thanksgiving.
On November 3, Mason tells Austin that another special patient is coming to the hospital and hints that Austin is a mob doctor who is helping criminals.
On November 4, Austin illegally repairs the bullet wound in his patient and tells Mason he is done. Mason says Maxie may not stay with Austin when she finds out about his dark past.
On January 20, 2023, Mason is in Austin's office sucking on a lollipop. He is upset that Austin didn't see the patient he sent him. Austin said he quit and Mason offers Austin a lollipop. He turns it down and Mason says that Maxie's daughter turned it down too while Mac and Felicia were watching the kids at the playground. Austin grabs Mason by the shirt as Ava walks in. Ava recognizes Mason from the Quartermaine BBQ before he leaves.
On February 6 outside Kelly's, Austin catches Mason talking to their boss on the phone. He grabs Mason by the coat and says he can go after him but to stay away from Ava. Mason says he might pay Ava a visit. Austin insists to Mason that he is just friends with Ava.
On March 1, it is revealed that Nikolas Cassadine's body is missing in the Tack Room of the Wyndemere Stables where Ava hid him. In an unknown location, he is shown unconscious in a hospital bed as Mason talks on the phone to (who is presumably) his female mob boss from Pautauk. He tells the person that Nikolas is stable, on life support, and has everything he needs right there.
On March 6, it is revealed Mason followed Austin to Spoon Island and kidnapped Nikolas' body.
In July, Mason threatened to harm Delia Ryan, Ava Jerome's mother. Mason blackmailed Ava into spying on Sonny for Mason's boss, or her role in Nikolas' "death" would be made public.
In July 2023, Gordon threatens Austin for more money so Mason has Gordon killed.
In August, Mason got in a bar fight with Ned Quartermaine who had suffered amnesia and thought he was Eddie Maine, while at The Highsider. Carly hits Mason on the head with a bottle to defend Olivia.
On August 22, it is revealed that Mason and Austin's boss is Cyrus Renault.
In September, Mason is ordered by Cyrus to kidnap Ava. Mason decides to kill Ava instead. Mason fought Dex who was attempting to rescue Ava. Dex shot Mason in the leg before Dante shot Mason twice in the back in defense of Ava and Dex.
In October, while Mason is hospitalized T.J. seems to recognize him. Cyrus is furious that Mason went against his orders and tried to kill Ava. He threatens to kill Mason if he disobeys again. Austin almost smothered Mason with a pillow but T.J. saved Mason's life even after realizing he was one of the two henchmen who kidnapped him in 2020.
In November, Mason is taken to Pentonville for his crimes.
