In 2009, Sam McCall and Damian Spinelli decide to go into business together by opening a private investigation firm.
Jason Morgan arranged for Sam to apprentice with Bernie Abrahms, who was a licensed P.I., to gain the experience required for her private investigators license.
Once Sam and Spinelli were fully licensed and ready to start their business, Jason provided the necessary funds to get their business off the ground and purchase this office space. He covered Spinelli's half of the start-up costs, while Sam insisted on using her own money, made and saved, from her time on Everyday Heroes to cover the other half.
In their partnership, Sam would do the field work and Spinelli would handle the technical side, sometimes assisting in the field. For a time, Spinelli lived in the office when he was in-between living situations.
Sam and Spinelli worked in partnership until 2013, when Spinelli moved to Portland, Oregon with Ellie and Georgie.
Sam left the P.I. business in October of 2017 to run Aurora Media with Drew Cain. In May 2018, Sam realized that being a media mogul wasn't for her and she missed her work as a private investigator, so she returned to the P.I. field. She had a brief partnership with Curtis Ashford (as "Ashford & McCall").
When Spinelli and his family returned to Port Charles in 2020, Sam continued working as an independent investigator, sometimes reaching out to Spinelli for technical assistance. Spinelli predominantly works as a stay-at-home father and entrepreneur.
Most recently, Sam and Spinelli have teamed up to investigate the connection between Cody Bell, mob boss Selina Wu and Gladys Corbin.

On May 16, 2024, during Harrison Chase and Brook Lynn Quartermaine's wedding reception at Metro Court Gardens, Sam approaches Spinelli to see if he would be interested in joining her in her next investigation - figuring out what the F.B.I. is holding over Jason, with the hope of finding a way to free him from the leverage. Spinelli is hesitant to get mixed up with the F.B.I. again, but after he talks it over with his partner, Maxie Jones, and she gives her blessing to help Jason and Sam, he decides to proceed.
On June 11, 2024, Sam and Spinelli run a con on F.B.I. Agent John Cates in order to steal his ID badge and get access to the F.B.I. database. Sam distracts John at the Metro Court Pool and Lounge, while Spinelli swipes his ID and makes a copy. The ruse is successful and Sam and Spinelli get access to the F.B.I. database, allowing them to begin the search for the leverage being held over Jason. Spinelli uncovers the leverage and tells Sam that the F.B.I. has evidence of Carly committing R.I.C.O. violations and Jason stayed away and worked for the F.B.I. to keep her out of prison. Spinelli sees Jason's actions as noble, but Sam is deeply hurt and angered that he abandoned his family for Carly.
