Michael Corinthos and Sasha Gilmore are fictional characters and a former couple on the ABC soap opera General Hospital.

Casting

Michael has been portrayed by Chad Duell since April 20, 2010. Duell was nominated for three Daytime Emmy's for Outstanding Younger Actor in 2011, 2012, and 2014 and won his first Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in 2015.

Sasha has been portrayed by Sofia Mattsson as of September 18, 2018.[1] Mattsson left the role on December 12, 2018 but returned in the new year on February 5, 2019.

Background

Michael is the son of the late, A.J. Quartermaine and his ex-wife, Carly Corinthos, and the adoptive son of mob boss, Sonny Corinthos.

Sasha is the daughter of a single mother, Amanda Gilmore. She was raised in Chappaqua, NY. She arrived in town pretending to be the daughter of the late, Dr. Silas Clay and his ex-wife, Nina Reeves.

After her mother passed, all the family she had left was her grandmother. When her grandmother became very ill, she needed surgery and even after Medicare, the costs were enormous. Soon after she was approached by Valentin Cassadine to pose as Nina's long-lost daughter for a few days and make enough money to pay for her grandmother's medical expenses.

Storylines

Michael and Sasha were introduced by Nina, and they seemed to hit it off. They run into each other a few more times. He asks her if she likes him. She says she does but then leaves abruptly. They are both later seen at Volonino's Gym and they begin to talk about the last time they saw each other. She said she left because he said he didn't want anyone who had secrets. She says she needs an uncomplicated friend. He agrees and it leads to them having sex.

On July 31, Michael and Sasha go to Puerto Rico on vacation where they meet a woman named Sandy Lance, who invites them to breakfast the next morning. Unbeknownst to either one of them, "Sandy" is actually a drug kingpin named Cassandra Pierce. "Sandy" injects a grapefruit half and as she has breakfast with them, Sasha eats the spiked grapefruit. "Sandy" gets a selfie with them before leaving the island.

On August 7, Sasha started getting sick and she collapsed so she was rushed to the hospital where she was eventually diagnosed with Avian Influenza A. On August 27, Michael and Sasha learned from Nina and Valentin that "Sandy Lance" was actually Cassandra Pierce. Eventually, Sasha showed signs of improvement and was on the road to a full recovery.

On September 16, Sasha confessed to Michael that she's not Nina's daughter and that Valentin hired her to pretend to be. She told Michael her grandmother had been sick and she needed the money to take care of her and when she died, Nina was the only family she had left. At first Michael was upset that she had lied, however at the Metro Court he later visited Sasha in her hotel room and apologized for his reaction, acknowledging she was nothing like Nelle and that she was only looking after her grandmother.

On October 8, Sasha finally confessed that she was not Nina's daughter after being outed by Lulu. Michael stood by her while everyone else raged at her for her deception.

On October 16, Sasha was arrested by Chase for fraud, so Michael hired Alexis to represent her. Eventually, Sasha was released (presumably on bail) and she and Michael went to the Metro Court. Michael gave Carly and Sasha some privacy and when he got back, Carly revealed that she and Sasha came to an understanding and decided to give her another chance.

At the Halloween party, Michael and Willow came to Sasha's defense when Nina tore into her again. Eventually, Nina dropped the charges against Sasha but made it clear she would never forgive her.

On January 17, Michael learned that Nelle was staying with Brad and Wiley so he decided to move her into the Quartermaine mansion to keep her close and to keep her away from Wiley. Sasha also moved in to help Michael keep an eye on Nelle.

On January 29, Michael, Sasha, Josslyn and Laura were caught in a shootout on the pier. Michael was the target but Laura got shot and was collateral damage. Eventually, Dustin Phillips showed up and fought the gunmen off.

On February 3, Michael tried to break up with Sasha to protect her but she didn't have any of it and insisted on standing by him. Eventually, Michael and Sasha confessed their love for one another and kissed. The next day, Sasha joined Michael at the Quartermaine mansion where they ran into Nelle. After Nelle and Sasha exchanged insults, Michael made Nelle an offer to go away if she didn't want to be in the boathouse where he ended up putting her. Nelle said it wasn't enough and tore up his offer.

On February 19, Michael finally learned that Wiley is his son when Lucas told him after his memory of that night returned. He was in total shock as Carly tore into Brad for switching the real Wiley with Jonah, and then Michael raged at Brad for what he did. Michael adjusted into fatherhood and Sasha was very happy that Michael got his son back.

When Michael took Jonah home, he renamed him Wiley Quartermaine-Corinthos. Michael told Sasha that he didn't expect her to become an "insta-mom" to Wiley, but Sasha assured him that she loved him and Wiley and was committed to taking things day by day as they adjust to their new reality.

Nelle continued her schemes and informed Michael that she would be suing for full custody of Wiley. Michael's lawyer, Diane Miller informed him that he had a strong case for custody, but his case would be even stronger, if he could provide a permanent mother figure for Wiley.

Michael's first instinct was to marry Sasha and they got engaged, but Diane informed him that marrying Sasha would be counterproductive given her questionable past. Pretending to be Nina's daughter and later being arrested for fraud made Sasha a nonviable option. Wanting desperately to help Michael, Sasha proposed that Michael should marry Willow. Initially everyone thought it was a crazy idea, but eventually Michael came around to the idea of a marriage of convenience.

Willow and Chase were adamantly against the idea. Chase eventually came around to the idea because he knew they needed to do whatever was necessary to protect Wiley from Nelle. Willow was in love with Chase and still wanted to honor her relationship. She maintained that she would serve as a character witness in the trial, but she couldn't marry Michael because she was in love with Chase.

Sasha and Chase came up with a scheme to make Michael and Willow think they had been cheated on. They knew the best chance to protect Wiley was to make sure that Michael and Willow got married. So, they staged a "romantic" scene and had Willow walk in on it. Michael and Willow were both devastated to "discover" that Sasha and Chase had been carrying on an affair and their respective relationships ended. Sasha and Chase were wrecked by what they had done, but knew they had to follow through to protect Wiley. Sasha realized how much she loved Michael after the relationship ended.

On May 11, Willow agrees to enter into a marriage of convenience with Michael to help him win custody of Wiley and they were married the next day. Sasha and Chase drowned their sorrows on the pier, but despite their heartbreak they knew they were doing what was best for Wiley. The following months get increasingly hard for Sasha. She is unable to cope with her heartbreak and develops a drug addition. Meanwhile, Michael bonds with Willow and the two eventually fall for one another, consummating their marriage.

On November 16, Sasha overdosed on cocaine given to her by Cyrus Renault. She is rushed to the hospital by Brando Corbin. Michael, Willow, Carly and Chase all arrive at the hospital to check on Sasha and the secret of Chase and Sasha's fake affair is finally revealed. Chase reveals the truth to Willow and Carly tells Michael. Shocked, Michael sits by Sasha's beside and holds her hand, thanking her for all the sacrifices she made to ensure Wiley's safety.

Michael and Sasha got engaged on March 13, 2020. However, Diane Miller advised against a marriage between the two because it may hurt Michael's chances in the custody case for Wiley.
