Nicholas Alexander Chavez is an American television actor known for his portrayal of Prince Spencer Cassadine on the ABC daytime soap opera General Hospital.
Life and career[]
Nicholas Chavez began portraying Spencer Cassadine on July 1, 2021. It was his first TV or movie acting job although he had done some acting for plays in high school. He was selling cars when he won the role of Spencer.
In April, Chavez starred in his first movie which premiered on Tubi: "Crushed".[1]
In 2022, Chavez won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Performer in a Drama Series for his work as Spencer.
On June 29, 2023, it was announced he had been cast as Lyle Menendez in the upcoming Netflix true-crime anthology series; Ryan Murphy's Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menรฉndez Story.[2][3] Spencer will not be recast, as he will take a hiatus from the show - the dates have not been announced but the show will not start shooting until the writers strike is resolved.
On November 16, 2023, Netflix was announced filming will start in December, and is expected to wrap production in February. Having been cast as Lyle Menendez, Nicholas Chavez will be taking a hiatus from the soap to film.
As of March 29, 2024, he is no longer on contract with ABC. This likely indicates he will not be returning to the role, which will be recast.[4]
On April 25, 2024, it was reported that Chavez will not return to GH as Spencer despite there being no official confirmation from the show.[5][6][7][8][9][10]
On May 3, 2024, Chavez released a statement confirming while there are no current plans for his return, he is open to it and exploring Spencer's future. He thanked fans, specifically the "Sprina" fan base.[11]
I'm so appreciative of the opportunity that GH gave me, and I wouldn't be as busy as I am professionally if it weren't for the talented producers, writers, directors and fellow actors.
Frank Valentini is a mentor and a friend, and we've had some pretty extensive conversations about my future on the show. While there are no current plans for me to return, we are still talking very openly about future possibilities for Spencer in Port Charles.
Beyond the people I've already mentioned, I want to take some time to thank and honor the GH fan baseโฆ especially the Sprina fansโฆ who must be THE most loyal and kind fan base in the universe of entertainment. Words fail to show the depth of my gratitude, thank you, I love you all very, very much.
Trivia[]
