Nina Addison Reeves is a fictional character on ABC daytime soap opera General Hospital. She is the daughter of the late, Mr. Reeves and his widow, the late socialite, Madeline Reeves.

The role was originated by veteran soap actress Michelle Stafford on May 1, 2014. Stafford departed the series on June 12, 2019 when she was rehired at Y&R and the role was recast with Cynthia Watros who made her first appearance on June 17, 2019.

After first rumors of former The Young and the Restless actress Michelle Stafford (who played Phyllis Summers from 1994–97, 2000–13) being cast in the role rose in early 2014, the casting was not made public until Stafford's first airing on the show on May 1, 2014.[7][8]

Head writer Ron Carlivati spoke to Daytime Confidential about the big casting coup saying:

"Look, bottom line, Michelle [Stafford] was so perfect for Nina, we never seriously considered any other role for her."

About how the show kept Stafford's casting under the radar, Carlivati added:

"GH has been on hiatus for the past two weeks and Michelle doesn't really start taping until we resume. But we realized that as soon as she did, the news would be out there long before her episodes began airing. It was actually Frank's idea to try to slip her into an earlier show that had already been written and shot, so we could take everyone by surprise. So he snuck her into the studio recently, at the end of the day, to tape the one scene you just saw. That was inserted after the fact. We've been sweating it out ever since that it would stay under wraps!"[9]

She returned on June 4, 2014, a little over a month after her first appearance.

On March 30, 2019, Soap Opera Digest announced that Stafford is departing from General Hospital to return to The Young and the Restless as Phyllis Summers, in mid or late spring.[10]

On April 11, 2019, Soap Opera Digest announced that Cynthia Watros will replace Stafford as Nina and will begin taping in June.[11]

On June 10, 2019, confirmed that Stafford's last day on GH would be June 12 and they also confirmed that Watros' first day would be on June 17.

Nina says "Silas"

Nina is the only biological child of Madeline Reeves, and the adopted sister of Nathan West. As a child, Nina was spoiled by her wealthy father, and was used to getting her own way. Nina was prone to outbursts and could get aggressive when she didn't get her way. She once pushed her mother down the stairs; however, Nina adored her "baby brother", and never tried to harm him. Nina is stated to be a lot older then Nathan.

While attending Columbia University, Nina starts dating Dr. Silas Clay and eventually married him after they graduated from college. Silas started cheating on Nina with Ava Jerome and got her pregnant (she gave birth to their daughter, Kiki Jerome in 1993).

Around the same time, Nina found out she was pregnant with Silas' child, and Madeline wanted to kill her baby to sever any ties between Silas and Nina. In order to do so, she gave Nina an overdose of antidepressants (with the intent of inducing a miscarriage), but her plan backfired when Nina slipped into a coma. Madeline then framed Silas for the crime, until he was cleared years later.

Nina trashes Silas' apartment

In early 2014, an all grown up Nathan came to Port Charles, determined to make Silas pay. Silas and his then-girlfriend, Sam Morgan went to the clinic Nina was staying at to see her, but, to Silas's surprise, Nina was gone. Madeline arrived in Port Charles soon after and told Silas and Nathan that Nina died of an infection. Madeline was eventually apprehended and maintains publicly that Nina is dead. In secret though, she told Nathan that Nina was alive and made him promise not to tell anyone. At the time Madeline reveals her secret, Nina is first seen waking up in a hospital bed and her first word was "Silas".

On New Years Eve 2016, she married Valentin Cassadine. Through her marriage to Valentin, she gained Charlotte as a stepdaughter.

Initially, Nina started as a bitter, vengeful, mentally unstable woman after waking up from her coma 20 years later, going after people whom she felt wronged her. She also was impulsive when it came to love and relationships. However, she slowly has picked up the pieces of the life she has loss and is now a strong, confident, independent person who is a successful, fiery fashion magazine businesswoman, a devoted stepmother, supportive wife and is empathetic and extremely loyal to her friends.

She was best friends with her brother Nathan West before his death. She is very close friends with her employee and sister-in-law, Maxie Jones, and is very good friends with Curtis Ashford.

Despite their past differences, she is on good terms with Lulu Spencer and is becoming a close friend of hers.

Nina’s daughter Nelle Benson and grandson Wiley Quartermaine-Corinthos.

On August 20, 2018, it was revealed that Nina's baby with Silas wasn't miscarried and that she gave birth to a girl and that Nina's mother Madeline put her up for adoption.

On September 7, Nina received a package from her late mother's lawyers and it contained a locket she loved as a little girl but half of it was missing (Madeline also wrote in a letter that the locket could mend a broken heart) so Nina deduced that her child must be alive and they have the other half. At the same time, Jordan and Curtis meet with Madeline’s lawyer who brokered the illegal adoption of Nina’s baby.

On October 1, 2018, a DNA test confirms that a woman named Sasha Gilmore is her daughter with Silas. However, on November 2, 2018, it is revealed that Valentin hired her to pretend to be Nina's daughter.

On April 1, 2019, two more DNA test confirmed that Sasha is not her daughter with Silas.

On April 9, 2020, it's revealed that Nelle Benson is her daughter with Silas and she has a grandson named Wiley Quartermaine-Corinthos.

On May 18, 2020, Nina gained Julian Jerome as a son-in-law, after Nelle blackmailed him into marrying her in order to gain custody of her grandson Wiley.

In August of 2020, Nina's daughter Nelle died falling off a cliff trying to escape Carly Corinthos in the woods and her body was found on September 23, 2020, with the cause of death was initially thought to be from drowning, before it was ruled a traumatic fall September 24, 2020.

As Nelle had dropped it during her fight with Carly at the Corinthos cabin in the woods in August, Avery Jerome-Corinthos found it shortly after in September when her mother took them to visit. Her father, Sonny Corinthos saw it and commented that he liked it. She called it her good luck charm, and held to it tightly after that. Once Nelle's body was found, her cause of death determined, and Nina had her buried, Carly began having dreams of Nelle, feeling she was "haunted" by her presence. She then found her stepdaughter playing with her necklace, and after learning where Avery found it, she immediately recognized it as both Nelle's necklace and Nina's. She immediately brought Jax in on the secret, and they agreed that with Nelle's psychotic and sociopathic past, they can never tell Nina the truth.

In January of 2021, Nina found her daughter's half of the heart necklace, learned Nelle was her daughter, and the truth came out.

Nina's daughters Willow Tait with her fraternal twin sister Nelle Benson.

In April 8, 2022, it was revealed that Nina and Silas had another daughter Willow Tait, who is Nelle's twin sister, who was stolen at birth by her mother Madeline and Nina's former nurse, Lorriane "Harmony" Miller to be raise with her husband Douglas Miller.

On May 1, 2014, Madeline Reeves revealed to her "son", James Nathan Reeves that Nina was alive. Nathan didn't believe her and she was escorted off to prison, but it was revealed that Nina was in fact alive. She woke up from her coma and said "Silas."

Nina returns

A month later, Nina arrives at Danny Morgan's birthday party, much to the shock of Silas, Sam, and the other party-goers. Nina explains that she was in a rehabilitation facility after she woke up a few weeks ago. Silas wonders how she got to Port Charles, and Nina reveals she looked him up, and found out he was here. She came to town, and found out he would be at the party, so she came to see him. She asks Silas to take her home, and he obliges, bringing her back to his place.

She thinks that everything is going to go back to the way it was before the coma that is until Silas tells her about Sam. Nina accepts this, saying she wants Silas to be happy. Soon after, Nathan comes, and reveals how he apprehended Madeline and found out he's actually her cousin, not her brother. Nina asks him to stay close because she doesn't want to lose anybody else. Nathan agrees. Silas soon after introduces her to his nephew, Rafe Kovich, Jr., and his daughter, Kiki Jerome, with Ava. Nina is shocked by his family, but insists she'll adjust to it. However, when Sam comes over to meet Silas for a date, Nina comes off as passive-aggressive towards her and Sam wonders if she's hiding something.

Nina wants revenge

On June 20, it is revealed that Nina can walk and that she is out for revenge. She was also the one who trashed Silas' apartment back in March, which means she has been awake for awhile. Nina also wants revenge on her mother, Silas, Sam, Ava and Kiki. She tells her nurse that she is going to get in between Silas and Sam. Silas takes Nina to General Hospital to see a physical therapist and Nina worries that her plan will be ruined if it's discovered that she can walk. So, Nina and her nurse Rosalie Martinez, bribe the physical therapist with money, and he agrees to keep quiet about her true condition and play along with her scheme. Soon after, she finds out Rafe is using drugs, but promises not to tell Silas because he insists he'll quit.

Nina "falls"

Nina crashes Sam and Silas' date by "falling" out of her chair. Sam still has her suspicions, though she doesn't tell Silas because she doesn't have any proof. Meanwhile, Nina plants a seed of doubt in Silas' mind about Sam, bringing up the fact that she still wears the wedding ring from her late husband, Jason Morgan. Rafe finds out about Nina's revenge scheme, but Nina finds out he ran Patrick Drake's family off the road, killing his son, and he's now wanted by the police. Nina pays him $500 to leave town and keep quiet.

Rafe ends up getting into an accident and taken to the hospital. He ends up brain-dead and is taken off life support by Silas. Nina overhears that Patrick operated on Rafe because he was the only doctor available, and Silas believes Patrick intentionally killed Rafe, though Sam doesn't believe that. Nina later overhears Sam telling Silas that Patrick thought about it, but decided not to follow through. She leaks this information to a reporter, which results in Patrick getting fired. Sam and Silas break up when they refuse to see eye-to-eye on Nina. Nina drugs Silas soon after in an attempt to get herself pregnant. Sam, however, walks in and interrupts her, though she doesn't want Silas back.

Nina and Franco

Meanwhile, Nina starts going to therapy sessions with Franco. The two of them start talking about their relationship problems. Franco is worried that his girlfriend, Carly Jacks, is still hung up on her ex-husband, Sonny Corinthos. Nina sees Sonny and Carly kissing, and later tells Franco what she saw. Silas, meanwhile, finds out that Rafe was ordered to run Patrick's car off the road by someone, and Sam investigates to find out who. When Nina tries to "help", Sam makes it clear she can handle it because she's still suspicious of Nina. Nina talks to Rosalie about her plans to get pregnant and then goes home. When she gets home, she shares her desires to have a baby with Silas. Silas is taken aback, but they discuss it. Nina and Silas start to reminisce about their romantic past and then she stands up from her wheelchair to give Silas a striptease. This leads to a moment of passion and Silas picks her up and takes her to the bedroom where they make love.

Nina and Silas reconnect

Nina wanted Rosalie to seduce Michael in order to hurt Kiki, but as Rosalie got to know Michael, she realized he was a good guy and didn't want to hurt him. Nina and Franco continued to bond and she discovered that he learned Carly cheated on him, and had given her a bugged necklace to spy on her. Nina tried to discourage Franco from going after Carly and Sonny. One time, she was caught by Silas after running after Franco. Silas confronted Nina and she said she wanted to surprise him with the fact that she could walk. Silas later questioned Nina's therapist and learned the whole truth about Nina's deception.

Nina confronts Madeline

Silas confronts Nina and they have a huge argument. Silas offers to get Nina help, but she knocks him out and flees to Nathan's where she is reunited with her mother. Nina rants and raves at Madeline for killing her baby, but then bribes Madeline into helping her kidnap Ava's baby. Madeline is able to find out where Ava is hiding, and Nina shows up there. She injects Ava with something that paralyses her and induces labor. Nina delivers Ava's baby. Before she and Madeline leave with the baby, Ava claims that Madeline hired Ava to seduce Silas, and tried to appeal to Madeline as a mother to not let Nina take her baby; Madeline refuses.

Nina asks Madeline to call Silas, but finds out that she tried to call Nathan, and assaults her mother with a lamp. Franco shows up and he and Nina run away with the baby. Eventually the PCPD arrive and arrest Franco, while Silas tricks Nina into giving the baby to Ava.

Nina and Franco make love

Later, Nina is seen in court with Franco. Alexis comes to represent her. Nina asks Alexis to represent Franco also, but Alexis refuses. Nina later pleads not guilty do to reason of insanity while Franco pleads guilty. The judge decides that Nina should be sent to Shadybrook Sanitarium while Franco should be sent to Pentonville Penitentiary.

Nina weds Valentin

On December 29, 2016 (New Year's Eve on the show), Valentin and Nina got married to strengthen his case in the upcoming custody battle over Charlotte.

Nina and Valentin

In June 2017, Nina filed for divorce. On June 14, Nina revealed that Valentin signed the divorce papers, ending their marriage. As of September 5, Nina and Valentin are still married. In October, it was revealed that Valentin and Lulu now have shared custody.

Congratulating Nathan on the baby

In November, Nathan and Maxie announce their pregnancy. In December, Nina is seen getting along with Lulu.

My child is alive

On August 28, 2018, Nina received a call from Pentonville that revealed Madeline was dead.[12] On September 7, Nina received a package from her late mother's lawyers and it contained a locket she loved as a little girl but half of it was missing (Madeline also wrote in a letter that the locket could mend a broken heart) so Nina deduced that her child must be alive and they have the other half.

Ahmad examines the necklace while talking to Nina

On September 14, Nina asks a jeweler named Ahmad about the half heart necklace. He confirms that it looks like it was divided from a full heart pendant but doesn’t come up with anything else.

On October 1, 2018, a DNA test confirms that a woman named Sasha Gilmore is her daughter with Silas.

On October 2, 2018, Valentin informed Nina that her child, daughter, is alive and that he had a DNA test to prove it.

On November 14, 2018, Nina became Curtis' "best person" in his wedding to Jordan after Drew had to step down so he can deal with family issues.

Nina takes back Valentin after he finds her daughter. He proposes to her and she says yes. When Nina begins to tell everyone, they are very skeptical.

Nina is seen with Michael and she gets the idea to set him up with Sasha. She introduces them and they click.

On May 17, Nina is hosting The 2019 Nurses' Ball and she meets Jasper Jacks and she is lost for words. Jax later surprises Nina in her office and he tells her that he bought Crimson from Drew and he is her new boss. They begin to talk about the budget of the company and how they can make changes for the better. Nina proposes that if the September issue of the magazine does really well, then she controls how the money is spent. Nina realizes that she needs to do really well with this issue, which means putting all her energy into it and also putting off her wedding to Valentin. After she breaks the news to him, he is concerned and not happy about it.

Nina begins work on the issue with Maxie and they need to figure out who is going to be on the cover. Maxie suggests Ava Jerome and Nina is obviously not okay with it. Maxie and Sasha are able to convince her and she goes to talk to Ava. Ava is skeptical about the offer, because shes worried that its going to make her look bad. Ava considers the offer and she says nothing is official until she reads her contract. After Jax finds out about this, he isn't happy about it because Ava killed Connie Falconeri and basically killed Morgan Corinthos.

Valentin & NIna2 at Elizabeths 2019 wedding.JPG
Nina runs into Curtis in the hospital and she offers to pay all of Jordan's expenses and Curtis declines and tells her that everything will be okay. Later, Nina runs into Jax and Valentin talking due to Valentin wanting to buy Jax out of Crimson. Nina doesn't want this and Valentin says he wants to do this because he doesn't want the wedding to be pushed back. Nina tries to convince him that the wedding in September will be fine.

On April 9, 2020, it's revealed that Nelle Benson is her daughter with Silas and she has a grandson named Wiley Quartermaine-Corinthos. Nelle is seen with a half heart necklace in her jewelry box. She is also shown in a flashback as a little girl wearing the necklace when she lived with Frank Benson.

On August 12, 2020, Nina tells her boyfriend Jax about the necklace and he calls someone who may be able to find out more about it. Nina and Jax later meet with Jax's jeweler, Evelyn, who tells Nina that she might be able to find the original craftsman.

In August 2020, Nelle returns to the cabin with Wiley to hide out. Michael finds her at the cabin and rescues his son who was kidnapped by Nelle. Nelle runs away and Carly confronts her and Nelle ends up falling off a cliff. Her body is not found but her half heart necklace is on the ground. A police officer looks around the area that Nelle fell and doesn’t see the necklace. Later Nelle’s body is found on the Pennsylvania side of the river and it is concluded that she drowned.

Evelyn and Nina talk about the necklace

Evelyn returns on September 1 and informs Nina that the necklace’s clasp has an interwoven set of initials on it. She traced the hallmark to an artisan in Manhattan.

On September 10, Nina and Jax go to Manhattan to meet the jeweler. Nina says he hasn’t returned any of her calls. She wants to back out since the jeweler is retired and she doesn’t want bad news but Jax convinces her to knock on the door.

Nina talks to Abraham

Jax asks if the man who answers is a jeweler named Abraham Dobkin and the man says he is. Nina shows the necklace and says it was divided. Abraham mentions that he usually makes full hearts but that request sounds very familiar.

He remembers the lady who asked for the necklace to be divided. Nina shows a picture of Madeline and asks if it is her. Abraham says he has never seen her before. He does keep receipts and finds one from September 1991 for a woman named Phyllis Caulfield. Jax asks Nina if she recognizes the name and she says she does.

Nina later reveals that she remembers Phyllis as the nurse who helped her give birth. Phyllis was a nurse at Crichton-Clark. She tells Jax they need to find Phyllis but puts the search on hold for now.

In September 2020, Ava convinces Sonny to let her have Avery Jerome-Corinthos but she has to agree to stay at the cabin. Once there, Ava hits an intruder on the head with a fire poker and he turns out to be her husband Nikolas. They argue briefly before making love in the cabin.

In the meantime, Avery wanders in the woods and finds the necklace which she takes with her. After Avery is found, she later shows the necklace to Sonny.

On January 29, 2021, Nina finally found her daughter's half of the heart necklace. Avery had given it to Lucy Coe to put on Sasha for luck during her interview with Jackie Templeton for GMA3. Nina and Sasha had come to an understanding and forgiveness, slowly rebuilding a friendly relationship with each other. The press had learned about Sasha's drug use as a model for Deception Cosmetics, so the team decided to have Sasha sit down for a live interview with Chase's famous journalist mother Jackie, to give their own narrative and tell the truth. Realizing Sasha was wearing the necklace, Carly attempted to stop the interview. Unfortunately, Nina had been watching from her office and came down to the restaurant to demand an explanation from Sasha. After the interview ended, Sasha was shocked, having no idea she wore the necklace, leading to Avery telling Nina it was hers and she had found it at the family cabin. Sasha gives her the necklace, and Nina is able to perfectly match them together. Michael is able to fill in the blanks for Nina, telling her that Avery found it at the family cabin, that Nelle had been there before with a kidnapped Wiley, and when Valentin mentioned Phyllis had taken her child to Florida, Michael noted that Nelle was from Florida. Nina demanded answers. Jax point blank admitted Nelle could be her child. Carly attempted to control her story by saying she figure it out last night and told Jax, but he cut her off, saying he was done lying and wanted to tell Nina the truth.

On February 1, Nina learned that Nelle was her daughter, and that Jax had known for months. Then after searching Nelle's belongings, Nina discovers a photo of young Nelle (from the April 2020 flashback) wearing the half-heart shaped necklace in her box of memories, she knew instantly that Nelle didn't stole the necklace, because she was wearing it the entire time.

On February 5, Nina laid into Jax for his lies, his lack of trust in her, and his constant need for validation from Carly. Also he and Carly had left out the knowledge that Wiley is her grandson and When Nelle lost custody of him lead her to kidnap Wiley and eventually her death. He pleaded with her, but she broke up with him and kicked him out of her office.
