    Rio Mangini as Oscar Nero

Oscar Nero-Quartermaine was a fictional character on the ABC daytime soap opera General Hospital. He was the son of former Navy SEAL, Chief Drew Cain and his former lover, Dr. Kim Nero.

The role was originated by Rio Mangini, who portrayed Oscar for two episodes on June 23 and 26, 2017.[3]

Due to Mangini joining the cast of the Netflix comedy Everything Sucks, the role was recast with Disney's Andi Mack actor Garren Stitt, who debuted a week later on July 7.[4][5][6]

Stitt was announced to be departing from General Hospital in May 2019.

    Oscars with his parents

He was conceived during a brief relationship his parents had in San Diego while his father was in the Navy.

Kim found out she was pregnant shortly after Drew was deployed and didn't think he would've welcomed a child with a woman he barely knew, so she decided not to tell him, although she did try to contact the Navy. However, her attempts to contact the Navy were initially unsuccessful, due to the fact that she was not a family member.

A couple of years later, when Kim did manage to get in contact with the Navy, she learned of Drew's "desertion." In reality, Drew had actually been kidnapped in an elaborate plot spearheaded by Cesar Faison and involving many of Port Charles' most notorious villains.

He was close with his father's family, the Quartermaine, including his uncle Jason, whom he trusted with the matters of his will if he died.

In December 2018, it was revealed that Oscar was conceived on New Years Eve 2001 and was born in October 2002.

On April 29, 2019 (shown on May 1, 2019), Oscar died in his sleep.

Oscar and his girlfriend, Josslyn Jacks

In June 2017, Trina tells Josslyn that she invited over some kids including Josslyn's crush, Oscar who transferred to school in April. He was first seen at Josslyn's house for a party. Oscar and Josslyn shared their first kiss on September 14, 2017. After learning that his mother Kim knew Drew Cain in the early 2000s, they both began to suspect that Drew might be Oscar's father.

Joss swiped a coffee mug from Drew's penthouse (one he recently drank out of) after she and Oscar paid Drew and Sam a visit under false pretences. She then used the mug to run a DNA test. They got results but Oscar didn't want to know. Later on, Kim told Drew that Oscar is his son. Oscar and Drew have since hung out a couple of times and have decided to get to know each other.

    Meeting his baby sister, Scout

Oscar eventually changed his mind and wanted to know. The test confirmed that Drew is indeed his father. After finding out, Drew went to see Oscar but it didn't go well. A few days later, Oscar went to see Drew at Aurora and they tried to get to know each other. On Christmas, Oscar decided to spend it with his new family the Quartermaines. While there he meets his little sister, Scout.

On the 4th of July, Oscar spends the holiday in the park with Josslyn to watch the fireworks. They are joined briefly by Cameron Spencer and Oscar becomes slightly uncomfortable when he learns of Josslyn and Cameron's past closeness.

On September 5, 2018, it's revealed that Oscar has an inoperable brain tumor and may only have months to live. His mother has been searching for treatments for two years but there’s nothing anyone can do.

On September 24, Oscar found out about his cancer from Cameron and then it was confirmed by his parents. He felt betrayed by his parents as they didn't tell him and made him think he has years to live.

On October 17, Josslyn stated that it's Oscar's birthday.

At the beginning of 2019, Terry Randolph tells Oscar, Josslyn, and his parents that the treatment for his brain tumor did not work and that he will die in a matter of seven to eight months, but it might also go as early as six weeks. Oscar decides that he wants to live the rest of his life having fun. He tells Joss that he has not seen a lot of Port Charles and that he wants to see The Catacombs. They get as far as getting to a cellar that is above them and he has another seizure. He is saved by Drew and Jason after Sam finds them trapped and is taken to the hospital for further observation.

In March, Oscar, Josslyn, Trina, and Cameron decide to travel to Niagara Falls because the latter is too distressed about his mother marrying a potential serial killer. Once at the motel, Oscar professes his love for Josslyn, but had another seizure and was thus hospitalized yet again. In March 19, it was revealed that Oscar's tumor is regrowing and he has less than a month.

On April 4, 2019, Oscar was with his girlfriend Josslyn talking about their future together when all of sudden Oscar has a severe seizure that caused him to fall on the bridge. Josslyn witnesses the whole thing and freaks out but Oscar is saved and rushed to General Hospital. When his parents Drew and Kim get the bad news, he ends up in a coma as result of the severe seizure and his brain tumor regrowing. Terry tells Drew and Kim that if Oscar wakes up he won't be the same.

    Oscar’s death

Oscar eventually does wake up, but he is very weak. The right side of his body was greatly impacted due to the seizure. The doctor says he only has days left. Monica suggests that he and his family should spend their last days together as a family and they move into the Quartermaine mansion. On April 29, 2019 (shown on May 1, 2019), Oscar died in his sleep and was escorted into heaven by his great-grandparents, Edward and Lila Quartermaine. On May 2, Oscar's will was read and both his parents dreamed about him after his passing.

    Oscar's Memorial

On May 10-13, Oscar was cremated and his ashes were poured over a meadow in his name ("Oscar's Meadow") by all of his loved ones. Oscar is later seen as a ghost at the Nurses' Ball as Josslyn saw him when their song was playing. He is also shown in a video message before the Nurses’ Ball. On June 4, Oscar's parents agree to pour the rest of his ashes at Mount Kilimanjaro. On June 12, his mother started to hallucinate & dream about him while his father plays along with her. His mother revealed she was possibly pregnant with his half-brother or half-sister. Oscar's cell phone goes missing, leaving Josslyn heartbroken as she tries to find it and even send a text message.

On June 17, Josslyn, Trina, and Cameron try to contact Oscar’s spirit. The glass of water they use moves along with flares of the candle as Oscar’s ghost is still around and even a photo was displayed of Oscar. After the paranormal experiment is interrupted by Josslyn's mother Carly, she tries to help Josslyn cope with her grief.

On June 18, both his parents returned home from pouring the rest of his ashes over Mount Kilimanjaro and Margaux said she was sorry for his father's loss, Kim turns out to not be pregnant because she was just hallucinating and she wanted Julian to give her a baby after losing Oscar. Julian turns her down by saying Oscar is gone and no baby is going to replace him. They break up afterwards.

On July 10-11, 2019, Oscar’s official will reading was read. He gave cousin Ned and Olivia his keyboard for Leo because he knows how much Ned loves music. He gave his cousin Michael a picture of Wiley with him because Michael was always in the dark basement room of the Quartermaine mansion, that Michael's late father A.J. had built. He gave his girlfriend Josslyn the compass, he gave his best friend Cameron his car and said he can have Josslyn, he gave grandmother Monica a travel guide to Cleveland, Ohio because she always want to go to Cleveland. He gave his father Drew the glass Drew drank from that Oscar and Josslyn stole for a DNA sample. He gave his mother Kim his teddy bear Mr. Bear, something he had as kid to remember him by. Alexis was the speaker of the will reading, but she was interrupted by Shiloh walking in and he revealed that Oscar gave him his 5% ELQ shares. However, "Shiloh" was voted out of his shares and agreed to give it to a Mount Kilimanjaro charity.

On September 26, about a month after Drew's presumed death, Shiloh was killed by Sam, thus not just ending his reign of terror but also ending any chances of him ruining Oscar's final wishes. However, Shiloh married Nelle Benson prior to his death and thus she inherited the shares.

On December 11, 2020, Julian finds Kim's apartment in New York City and attempts to meet with her. He instead meets her nanny and learns she has an infant son Andy - Oscar's maternal half-brother named after his presumed deceased father. With the threat of Sonny and Jason close upon him, Julian leaves, and the nanny calls Kim at the hospital where she works, telling her that Julian was there and doesn't know Andy is his son.
