The Quartermaine family is a very wealthy and prestigious fictional family on the American soap opera General Hospital. The Quartermaines have been a staple on General Hospital since their introduction in the late 1970s.

Background

Edward Quartermaine (September 2, 1918 - November 20, 2012)
Lila Morgan Quartermaine (April 29, 1918 - July 14, 2004)

Edward Louis Quartermaine was the patriarch of the family until his death in 2012, and his wife Lila Morgan Quartermaine was the matriarch until her death in 2004.

The family came to Port Charles in 1977 when their son Alan decided to stay at General Hospital as a physician and bought what is now known as the Quartermaine Mansion for his new wife Monica as a wedding present (the mansion would not see a redesign until 2019). She has ever since drilled it into everyone's head whenever the opportunity presents itself that she is the owner of the house, which is usually followed by a reiteration that Alan gave it to her.

Edward is the son of George and Ida Quartermaine, and the grandson of Edgar and Martha Quartermaine. Lila is the daughter of Harold Morgan. They have two children together: son Alan, who died in 2007; and daughter Tracy. Edward also has an illegitimate son with mistress Beatrice LeSeur, Jimmy Lee Holt. In 1994, it was revealed that Edward had another son, Bradley Ward, with his mistress from World War II, Mary Mae Ward. However, Bradley was killed in 1974.

The Quartermaines are an eccentric and dysfunctional family, known for their comedic fights. Whenever the Quartermaine mansion was filled with Q's, undoubtedly bickering would soon follow. The rivalry between Monica and Tracy was often a source of conflict within the household. Tracy's jealously over Edward deeming Alan his favorite child, was another source of conflict.

The family owned business, ELQ International, named for, Edward Louis Quartermaine, has also been the center of several conflicts within the family. Corporate take-overs staged between members of the family vying for control of ELQ, has often left the Quartermaines with divided loyalties. One of the most prominent battles for ELQ emerged between Tracy and Alan's son, A.J. Quartermaine after Edward's passing in 2012.

Aside from being successful business people, the Quartermaine family is also known for their work at General Hospital. Several family members have become successful doctors, others sit on the GH board of directors, and the family has made several sizable monetary donations to contribute to the growth of the hospital.

Thanksgiving has always been a special holiday to the Quartermaine family. Each year since 1994, they annually attempt to have a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, only for it to somehow become ruined, resulting in them ordering pizza. Over the years ordering pizza for Thanksgiving became a family tradition, along with singing We Gather Together before eating their meal. In 2012, Edward passed away shortly before Thanksgiving, and many of the last living Quartermaines came together on the holiday to honor him.

Some of the Quartermaines have given their children Edward and Lila's namesakes. Tracy named her oldest son Edward after his grandfather while Jason Morgan and his ex-wife Sam McCall named their son Daniel Edward also after his great-grandfather. Skye Chandler-Quartermaine named her daughter Lila after her great-grandmother and Sam named her daughter Lila after Lila Morgan Quartermaine as well.

Sam is the keeper of Lila and Alan's wedding rings. Ned Quartermaine also gave Olivia Falconeri Lila's engagement ring.

Edward's descendants

The Rev. Dr. Bradley Ward
(1945 - July 1, 1974)

Bradley was married to Isobel Ward at the time of his death in 1974. The couple had two children: son Justus, who was killed in 2006; and daughter Faith. It was also revealed in 1994 that Bradley had had an affair with Kylie Quinlan, the daughter of a prominent judge. Kylie had gotten pregnant with Bradley's child, but miscarried shortly before his death.

Dr. Alan James Quartermaine, MD
(February 23, 1948 - February 26, 2007)

Alan was the first Quartermaine to arrive in Port Charles in 1977 and became a doctor at General Hospital. He married fellow doctor Monica Bard and had a son, Alan Jr. (A.J.). In 1983, during his marriage to Monica, Alan had an affair with Susan Moore and had twin sons, Jason and Andrew. After Susan's death, Alan managed to get custody of Jason and Monica adopted him. Alan and the Quartermaines never knew about Andrew and he was raised by Betsy Frank until he was presumed dead at the age of 3. It was later discovered Monica had a long-lost daughter, Dawn Winthrop, from a previous relationship with David Langton. However, Dawn was murdered in 1991.

In 1995, while Monica was going through cancer treatments, she met Paige Bowen, who had a daughter named Emily. Paige and Monica became good friends, and when Paige died, Alan and Monica adopted Emily. In 2001, Skye Chandler came to Port Charles believing Alan was her biological father. After it was revealed he was not, Alan adopted the adult Skye. In 2007, Alan suffered multiple heart attacks while being held hostage by Jerry Jacks in the Metro Court Hotel. He later died at General Hospital. The Quartermaines suffered another loss when Emily was strangled to death just 10 months later. A.J. was also shot and killed in 2014, leaving Jason and Andrew as Alan's only living biological children.

Tracy Angelica Quartermaine
(born circa April 6, 1949)

Tracy came to Port Charles in 1978, divorced from Larry Ashton and had a son named Ned. Since her arrival she has always been determination to gain power in ELQ, and often attempts to one-up family members who have tried to displace her or her sons in the family company or in her father's affections. She later married Paul Hornsby and gave birth to their son, Dillon in 1992. After divorcing Paul, Tracy left town and made frequent visits until 2003, when she returned to Port Charles for good. In 2006, it was revealed that Tracy had had an abortion when she was younger. The father was not mentioned. In 2017, Tracy decides to build a life for herself elsewhere and departs Port Charles once more.

Jimmy Lee Holt

Jimmy Lee Holt, born Eric Quartermaine, was raised in Indiana by his mother Beatrice LeSeur. Jimmy Lee and his mother arrived in Port Charles when he was already an adult in 1983 and hoped to gain their share of the Quartermaine fortune since Jimmy Lee was Edward's illegitimate son. Jimmy Lee was involved in various schemes to swindle the Quartermaines. He fell in love with Edward's distant cousin Celia Quartermaine and eventually married her. The couple was happy for a brief period of time before the reality of being poor was too much for Celia and she ended their marriage. Jimmy Lee found love again with country store owner Charity Gatlin. They married and moved out of Port Charles to Pautuck, New York in 1987. Together they run the country store and Charity has a son named Jonah.

Bradley's children
Justus Ward
(June 17, 1962 - June 16, 2006)

Justus is the grandson of Edward Quartermaine and Mary Mae Ward. He came to town in 1994 when his father Bradley's body was discovered. He and new friend Luke Spencer started investigating his father's murder. When it came out in court that Edward was Bradley's father, Justus was reluctant to get to know his new-found family. However over time, he got closer to them. Justus eventually went to work for his cousin Jason Morgan, who is a mobster against Edward's wishes. He was shot and killed by Manny Ruiz, a mob rival, in 2006, Edward took Justus's death especially hard.

Faith Ward
(born 1969)

Faith is the granddaughter of Edward Quartermaine and Mary Mae Ward. She came to Port Charles briefly in 1994 for her father's memorial service. In 1996, Edward went to Philadelphia to see Mary Mae's concert and tried to connect with Faith, but she didn't want to have anything to do with him. She has a daughter named Maya.

Skye Chandler-Quartermaine
(Born August 15,1967)

Skye came to Port Charles in 2001. Born Antoinette Patterson Chandler, Skye is the daughter of Rae Cummings and the adopted daughter of Alan Quartermaine. Skye dated Lorenzo Alcazar and had a daughter with him, Lila Rae, named for Skye's adoptive grandmother Lila, and her mother Rae. Skye wanted to keep her daughter safe from Lorenzo's mob life, so she agreed to help Jason kill him. She let Jason know when Lorenzo was home, and then let him into his house. While Skye was downstairs with Lila Rae, Jason shot and killed Lorenzo upstairs. Skye later left town with her daughter in 2007. However she is known to occasionally visit.

Alan James "A.J." Quartermaine, Jr.
(born November 18, 1972 - March 31, 2014)

A.J. was born to Monica and Alan, though he was originally thought to be the son of Rick Webber, his mother's lover. A.J. grew up close to his brother, Jason, but after Jason started becoming the favorite, A.J. resented him and became an alcoholic to deal with his family's rejection. He had a one-night stand with Carly Benson, but was too drunk to remember it. This resulted in their son, Michael. Carly lied and said that Michael was actually Jason's son. When Michael was born, Carly left him in Jason's care. After Carly came back to town and Michael's true paternity was revealed, A.J. and Carly married and shared custody of Michael with Jason. Carly then began having an affair with Sonny Corinthos and became pregnant with his child. During a fight with A.J., Carly fell down the stairs at the Quartermaine Mansion and miscarried the baby. The two then divorced and Carly later married Sonny. Sonny later forced A.J. to give up parental rights of Michael, so that he could adopt him. Ever since, A.J. has tried to regain a relationship with his son. When Michael became an adult, A.J. was overjoyed when they finally began to form a bond. However this was cut short when A.J. was killed in 2014, after Sonny shot him in the chest at point blank range.

Jason Morgan
(born November 11,1976)

Jason, born Jason Moore and raised Jason Quartermaine, is the firstborn son of Alan and his mistress, Susan Moore and was the golden boy of the Quartermaine family growing up. He was going to become a doctor like his father and adoptive mother. After attempting to stop A.J. from driving drunk, they were involved in a car accident. Jason suffered permanent brain damage and memory loss. He renounced the Quartermaines, moved out of the Mansion and changed his last name to Morgan, to honor his grandmother Lila. He then met Sonny Corinthos and eventually became an enforcer for Sonny's mob organization. Jason raised his nephew Michael while Michael's mother, Carly, recovered from postpartum depression. He later married Courtney Matthews who became pregnant, but suffered a miscarriage.

In 2004, Jason agreed to say he was the father of Sam McCall's unborn child to protect Sonny's marriage to Carly. However Sam's baby Lila, named for Jason's grandmother, was stillborn. In 2007, Jason became a father when Elizabeth Webber, gave birth to their son Jake, who was the result of a one-night stand while she was married to Lucky Spencer. Lucky then agreed to raise Jake because of Jason's dangerous lifestyle. Jason married Sam in late 2011, and she gave birth to their son Danny in 2012. Not long after the birth of Danny, Jason was shot by Cesar Faison, kicked into the harbor and presumed dead. After finally escaping from his captors, Jason returned home in 2017. Jason and Sam divorced shortly after his return.

Andrew "Drew" Cain
(born November 11, 1976)

Drew is the second son of Alan and his mistress, Susan Moore. He is Jason's twin and none of the Quartermaines know of his existence because Susan and her cousin Heather Webber kept him a secret from them. Susan planned to return for Drew after she settled Jason's custody with the Quartermaines, however after she was killed by Crane Tolliver, Drew was kept and raised by Betsy Frank until she gave him away at the age of 3. Drew grew up and became a highly awarded Navy SEAL with many honors. No one knew of Drew's existence until he resurfaced in Port Charles in 2014 believing he was his twin brother Jason. His true identity was revealed in 2017, when Jason returned to town and it was discovered that Jason's memories had been implanted into Drew and his own memories erased. Drew has a son, Oscar Nero with Dr. Kim Nero, who died in his sleep of a cancerous brain tumor on April 29, 2019 (shown on May 1, 2019), and a daughter with Sam McCall named Emily, named after his late sister. Drew and Sam married in 2017 but divorced in 2018.

Dr. Emily Bowen Quartermaine, MD
(January 17, 1982 - November 1, 2007)

Emily, born Emily Bowen, came to live with the Quartermaines when she was a young teenager in 1995. Emily had been friends with Nikolas Cassadine since he arrived in town, and then they began to date. The two finally married in 2004 but divorced after Emily was raped and Nikolas cheated with Courtney Matthews. After Courtney's death, Emily and Nikolas managed to reconcile, and she became stepmother to his son Spencer. When Nikolas and Emily are due to be married again she is strangled to death at her engagement party by Diego Alcazar on November 1, 2007.

In 2009, Emily's identical twin sister Rebecca Shaw came to town, and it was revealed that she had been given up for adoption by Emily's biological mother, Paige. The Quartermaines took a liking to Rebecca and she became a surrogate daughter to them. She left Port Charles later that year.

Edward Lawrence "Ned" Quartermaine

The son of Lawrence Ashton and Tracy Quartermaine. Ned was first introduced in 1988 as having an affair with Monica. She did not recognize him because he had been sent to boarding school as a child and she did not see him again until he was an adult. Ned became engaged to Monica's daughter Dawn Winthrop and when the truth came out, Dawn left him and their marriage was annulled. Ned then met Lois Cerullo, a band manager, though he was going by the name Eddie Maine. He began living a double life, as Eddie Maine, who was dating Lois; and as Ned Ashton, who was with Katherine Bell. Ned was forced to marry Katherine as she was blackmailing the Quartermaines, however when he legally married Lois, his marriage to Katherine was invalid. When Lois found out about Katherine she divorced Ned. He then left Katherine and Lois eventually forgave him. Lois and Ned were then remarried and had a daughter, Brook Lynn Quartermaine, then later divorced again.

Ned then married distant cousin Chloe Morgan because of a stipulation in her uncle's will. At that point Ned realized he was actually in love with Alexis Davis. Alexis, however, had married Jasper Jacks, and Chloe was in love with him. So, the two couples pretended to be happily married to their respective spouses, but all the while they secretly were with the ones they truly loved. Both couples later divorced. Alexis became pregnant from a one-night stand with Sonny Corinthos. When her daughter Kristina was born, Ned said that he was her father to protect her from Sonny's mob life, however Kristina's true paternity later came out. Ned works as a record producer and continued to visit Port Charles frequently until Tracy announced she was leaving town. Ned then decided to legally change his name from Ashton to Quartermaine and permanently returned to the mansion. He also married Olivia Falconeri later that year.

Dillon Albert Quartermaine
(born May 27, 1987)

Dillon was born Dillon Albert Hornsby to Paul Hornsby and Tracy Quartermaine. As a teen he develops a romance with Georgie Jones. In 2006, when he came down with the encephalitis virus during the outbreak Dillon and Georgie managed to convince their parents to get married as they believed Dillon was dying. The couple were married on Valentine's Day and Dillon ended up pulling through and surviving. He later started an adulterous affair with his step-sister Lulu Spencer. Georgie divorced Dillon; then Lulu found out she was pregnant, and Lulu ultimately had an abortion. Dillon ultimately left town to pursue a film career in 2007, but returned to Port Charles in 2015. He left again in 2017.

Faith's child
Dr. Maya Ward, MD

Maya came to Port Charles in 2010 to do her medical internship at General Hospital. She moved into the Quartermaine Mansion and later married Tracy's step-son Ethan Lovett, albeit due to a drunken mix-up in Las Vegas. Maya and Ethan agreed to stay married for one year so that Edward would pay them one million dollars. However, Maya went back to Philadelphia and when Ethan went to visit her, he found her in bed with another man, ending their short marriage. Maya decided not go back to Port Charles.

Lila Rae Alcazar
(born October 24, 2006)

Lila Rae, born Lila Rae Quartermaine, is the daughter of Skye Chandler-Quartermaine and Lorenzo Alcazar. When Lila Rae was an infant, Skye took her to London to live with Skye's mother, Rae Cummings. Skye and Lila Rae temporarily returned to Port Charles in November 2012 for Edward's funeral.

A.J.'s child
Michael Corinthos III
(born circa December 29, 1992)

Michael, born Michael Morgan and later Michael Alan Quartermaine. Taken from A.J. as a child, Michael is raised at the center of a bitter battle between the Quartermaines and the Corinthos family. Michael was adopted by his step-father Sonny Corinthos. He has been close to his biological uncle, Jason Morgan, ever since birth. As a child, Michael was told that A.J. was his biological father. However after A.J. attempted to manipulate Michael, Michael wanted nothing to do with him. When Michael became an adult and A.J. returned to town; Michael was told the truth of his origins. As he finally began to form a father son with relationship with A.J., it was cut short when A.J. was shot and killed by Sonny. After discovering Sonny killed A.J. and his mother covered up the crime, Michael disowns Sonny and Carly and renamed himself "Michael Quartermaine". Michael eventually forgives his parents but has also fully embraced his Quartermaine roots while running ELQ and living at the Quartermaine mansion. Michael has one child, a son named Jonah with his ex-girlfriend, Nelle Benson.

Jacob Martin "Jake" Spencer
(born May 4, 2007)

Jake is the biological son of Jason Morgan and Elizabeth Webber, but few people originally knew that Lucky Spencer was not his biological father. Jason had almost no contact with his son as an infant, and the Quartermaines were completely unaware that Jake was Jason's son. Jake was raised with half-brothers Cameron and Aiden. In 2011, Jake was hit by a car later revealed to have been driven by Luke Spencer. He is later presumed dead at General Hospital. In 2015, it was revealed that Jake was saved by Helena Cassadine. He was discovered very much alive and living on Cassadine Island. After Lucky, Luke and Laura return Jake home, he is eventually told Jason is his biological father.

Jason now shares custody of Jake with Elizabeth, even though he lives with his mother.

Daniel Edward "Danny" Morgan
(born June 1, 2012)

Danny is the son of Jason Morgan and Sam McCall, though he was originally believed to be the son of Jason's alleged twin brother, Franco due to Heather Webber switching the paternity test. Danny was switched shortly after birth with Victor Lord III, the deceased newborn of Téa Delgado, and lived in Llanview, Pennsylvania with Téa. The baby switch was revealed four months later and Danny was returned to Jason and Sam and is named after Sam's late brother, Danny McCall and Jason's late grandfather, Edward Quartermaine. Unfortunately, Jason was presumed dead shortly before a paternity test proves he is Danny's biological father. Danny was diagnosed with leukemia in 2013 and recovers after he receives a bone marrow transplant from his grandfather, Julian Jerome. Jason returned in 2017 and now shares custody of Danny with Sam.

Oscar Nero
(born October 16,2002- May 1,2019)

Oscar is the son of Drew Cain and Dr. Kim Nero. He was conceived during a brief relationship his parents had in San Diego while his father was in the Navy. Oscar and his mother arrived in Port Charles in June 2017. He befriended Josslyn Jacks, whom he is now dating. For 15 years, Drew and Oscar had no idea they were father and son because after Drew and Kim lost contact, she never told him that she was pregnant. After finding Drew again, Kim finally told him and Oscar the truth on December 11. On April 29, 2019 (shown on May 1, 2019), Oscar died in his sleep of a cancerous brain tumor.

Emily Scout Cain
(born February 28, 2017)

Emily is the daughter of Drew Cain and Sam McCall. She was born during a snow storm after her mother was kidnapped by Olivia Jerome. She was delivered by her father and named after her late aunt, Emily Quartermaine. She was given "Scout" as a middle name at the request of her older brother Danny and she primarily goes by Scout.

Brook Lynn Quartermaine
(born October 24, 1986)

Brook Lynn is the daughter of Ned Quartermaine (formerly Ashton) and his ex-wife, Lois Cerullo. She was raised away from Port Charles but returned as a teenager. She later returns as an adult for a short time. Brook Lynn is somewhat close to her grandmother Tracy, as she was the one who convinced Tracy to remarry Luke when it was revealed that their marriage was invalid. She is also friendly with her second cousin Maya, who also happens to be her former step-aunt by marriage. Like her father, Brook Lynn became a professional singer and left town to pursue her music career in 2011. She returned to Port Charles in 2019.

Jonah Corinthos

Jonah is the son of ELQ CEO Michael Corinthos and psychotic town troublemaker, Nelle Benson. At birth, he was illegally given to Brad Cooper by his mother, Nelle, in an attempt to make Michael suffer. Shortly after Nelle was incarcerated for her many other crimes. He was currently going by the name Wiley Cooper-Jones and being raised as the son of Brad and Dr. Lucas Jones. Jonah was returned to his father Michael on February 19th, 2020.
