History

Rice Plaza is where important announcements and events for the city of Port Charles happen. It is located outside of City Hall.

It was previously called Wellington Plaza, during the 1920s, as seen on Nov 2, 2020 when Josslyn Jacks & Trina Robsinson were sent back to voting day 1920, meeting a number of suffragist women, including Josslyn's great-great-grandmother Beatrice Eckert and Trina's great-great-grandmother Dr. Priscilla Johnson.

On January 16, 2019, Laura Collins was sworn in as Mayor by Judge Booth at this location.

In December 2021, Deputy Mayor Eileen Ashby introduces Mayor Laura Collins during a tree lighting ceremony at Rice Plaza.

On May 13, 2022, PC Elementary has a fair at this location.

In October 2022, a Halloween Festival with a Haunted House takes place in Rice Plaza.

In December 2022, the Community Decoration Project helps decorate Rice Plaza for Christmas and the Gingerbread Jam concert takes place at Rice Plaza where "Chase and Blaze" sing songs and an Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest is judged.

The criminal actions of Eileen Ashby contribute to her death at the hands of her villainous lover Victor Cassadine on March 28, 2023. Police Commissioner Jordan Ashford is named as her replacement on June 6, 2023.

Many citizens buy their Christmas trees from the plaza in the winter of 2024.
