Samantha "Sam" McCall[27] was a fictional character on the ABC soap opera, General Hospital. She was the daughter of the late mob boss, Julian Jerome and his ex-wife, attorney, Alexis Davis via one night stand; and the illegal adoptive daughter of the late Cody McCall and his late ex-wife, Evelyn McCall.
She was portrayed by actress Kelly Monaco from October 1, 2003 to November 1, 2024.
From August 4-13, 2020, the role of Sam was temporarily played by Passions vet Lindsay Hartley while Monaco was out on temporary leave.[28] Hartley returned as Sam from February 3-7, 2022.[29] She filled in for Monaco a third time on January 2, 2024, a fourth time from August 22-23, 2024, and a fifth time on September 16, 2024.
She is best known for her relationships with Quartermaine twin brothers, Jason Morgan and Drew Quartermaine.
Development
The role of Sam was originated by former Baywatch star and Playboy's April 1997 Playmate of the Month, actress, Kelly Monaco on October 1, 2003.
Monaco, who had previously portrayed Livvie Locke on the ABC Daytime soap opera Port Charles (GH's spinoff) from 1999-2003, was one of several performers from the cancelled soap to join the cast of a main daytime show. She was also Livvie's double Tess Ramsey from 2002-03.
Monaco had also auditioned for ABC Daytime's All My Children as well as CBS Daytime's As the World Turns, both of which were based in New York at the time, and Monaco's eagerness to stay on the West coast led to her ultimately signing with General Hospital, based in Los Angeles.
While portraying Sam, Monaco played Alicia Montenegro, Sam's European look-alike in 2005.
In 2005, Monaco joined the first season of ABC's Dancing with the Stars and was the first champion, along with her partner, Alec Mazo, of what turned into a multi-season competition.
In 2012, Monaco returned for Season 15 of the show known as the All Stars season and placed third with her partner, Val Chmerkovskiy.
In August 2009, a casting call was sent out to recast the role of Sam, leaving fans shocked by her possible departure. Despite rumors and speculation, Monaco's co-stars Steve Burton (Jason Morgan) and Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis) denied she was departing from the show. Monaco herself dispelled the rumors, stating there was "really no doubt" she would renew her contract; it was merely standard procedure for ABC to release the casting call since she and the network had not signed off on a new contract by a set deadline.
In 2006, Monaco was nominated for a Daytime Emmy in the category of Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role.
On July 30, 2020, Daytime Confidential revealed that Passions vet Lindsay Hartley would step in as a temporary recast of Sam when new episodes return in August. Hartley is only supposed to fill in for Monaco for a couple weeks.[30][31][32] Hartley appeared as Sam from August 4 to August 13, 2020.
On August 14, 2020, Hartley announced she was done taping as Sam.[33] On the same day, Monaco confirmed that she is filming again.[34] Monaco returned as Sam on August 18, 2020.
On February 2, 2022, it was revealed that Hartley will once again step in as a temporary recast of Sam and fill in for Monaco.[35] Hartley returned as Sam from February 3 to February 7, 2022.
Monaco returned as Sam on February 8, 2022.
On January 2, 2024, Hartley returned again to temporarily fill in for Monaco. She returned as a fill-in for Monaco again from August 22-23, 2024, and on September 16, 2024.
On August 26, 2024, it was revealed that Monaco has been let go from GH after 21 years.[36] Rumors also suggested that her character will be killed off this fall and her exit is storyline-dictated. The news of Monaco's firing has led to major backlash from the fans, urging GH to re-think their decision.[37]
On September 23, 2024, it was revealed that Monaco will return to GH as Sam this week after Hartley had filled in for her again last week.[38] It's not a permanent return as Monaco is still set to exit the series this fall. She returned on September 25, 2024.
When the character is introduced, Sam is described as "an adventurous woman trying to reverse her family's bad fortune", who would immediately interact with character Jasper Jacks (Rademacher).[40] She is independent and scheming.
Soaps In Depth named the character on their list of the 50 naughtiest soap opera vixens in 2009.[41] When she first arrives in town, she is portrayed as a con artist and bad girl, who knew how to get what she wanted. The motivation behind the character's bad girl ways were revealed, when it was discovered that she was raised on the road by a con artist father, Cody McCall, and used cons to provide for her mentally handicapped older brother, Danny McCall.[42]
Sam grows close to Jason Morgan during her pregnancy with the child of Sonny Corinthos. Co-star Burton (Jason) later explained: "It's been a long journey for Jason and Sam. When they first got together, it wasn't really supposed to be that they got together. He was kind of helping her out with her pregnancy. After that whole time they fell in love."[43]
When the couple broke up in 2008, Monaco said to Soap Opera Digest,
- "I feel Sam and Jason was so abruptly ended without any explanation, really, as to the coldness that was so one-sided [on Jason's part]. Of course, Jake came into play, but I felt like Jason and Sam were always strong enough to overcome."[44]
Sam begins a relationship with Lucky Spencer to get back at Elizabeth. Monaco describes the progression of the relationship to Soap Opera Digest, "In the beginning it was very calculated and manipulative. Eventually, it turned genuine. [...] finally, she found someone who is trustworthy."[44] Kelly Monaco describes her character (2013)
- "Sam is a fighter. She's going to put her walls up when she feels turned on or lied to or manipulated. It's her truth. Whether or not people can see that or accept it from her point of view, she's an injured bird, and she's just trying to stay alive."
Background
When Alexis was 16 years old, her father, Mikkos Cassadine, sent her to New Hampshire to attend an all girls boarding school, Briarton Griggs Academy. Alexis sees this as an opportunity to reinvent herself, so she dresses up, sneaks out of boarding school and goes to a bar, where she meets Julian Jerome (name revealed in 2013 as Alexis couldn't remember). The two have a one night stand and Alexis becomes pregnant. She never tells Julian about the pregnancy and does not see him again until 31 years later.
When Mikkos hears of the pregnancy, he sends her to a clinic in Maine to have the baby and then forces her to give the child up. He later forges documents to make Alexis believe the child is dead, so that she wouldn't try to look for the daughter she gave up. Sam was illegally adopted by Cody McCall and Evelyn Bass, who choose adoption based on the fear of having another mentally handicapped baby like their first child, Danny McCall.
When Sam was three, Evelyn decided she didn't want Sam anymore and she no longer wanted to deal with Cody's con artist ways, so she took Danny and left. Sam was raised by Cody, who taught her how to salvage and run cons. When Sam was a teenager, Cody told her all about Evelyn and Danny. Wanting to confront her mother for abandoning her, Sam set out to find her and ended up in Bailey's Beach, South Carolina. When Sam went into her mother's house and began to look around, she was horrified to find her brother Danny chained up in the basement. She quickly unchained him and helped him escape, promising him that she would care for him and give him a better life. As they were sneaking out of the house Danny accidentally knocked over a candle that set the house on fire.
Sam and Danny had no idea that their mother was inside the house when it burnt down and she was killed. Sam is arrested for arson, but gets out on bail and goes on the run with Danny to avoid being convicted for Evelyn's murder. A young Sam does her best to care for Danny but eventually resorts to extreme measures to pay his bills. Using the skills she learned from Cody, she married five wealthy men in order to scam them out of their money, and provide a life for herself and her brother, Danny, but with each marriage she used an alias and therefore they were all invalid.
- "Cheryl Richards" married Henry Archer, one of her first marks. Henry is killed in a car accident after his son Hank cut his brake lines sometime before 2012. Through this marriage Sam gained Hank as a step-son, but never met Hank until years later.
- "Sandra McIntire" married Douglas McIntire. Douglas was murdered by Niko Dane.
- "Susan Curtis" married Sullivan Curtis.
- "Linda Black" married Leland Powell who died in 2018.
- "Angela Monroe" married Bill Monroe, her final mark. In July 1998, Bill was killed in self-defense by Sam after he discovered her intentions and physically attacked her. Through this marriage Sam gained a step-daughter Amelia Joffe, but never met Amelia until years later.
In 2006, Alexis Davis was revealed to be Sam's biological mother, making Kristina Corinthos-Davis and Molly Lansing-Davis her half-sisters. After the reveal, Sam's relationship with Alexis was non existent as they did not get along at all but as of now they have a great relationship and are best friends.
She has always had a good relationship with her sisters. Sam disowned her mother Alexis after Sam discovered Alexis was drinking again and didn't want Alexis being drunk around her kids Danny and Scout so Sam banned Alexis from seeing her grandchildren.
Sam is very close to her younger sisters Kristina and Molly and has always been there as a listening ear for them as they were growing up and into their adulthood. When Kristina was ready to have sex for the first time, Sam was who she went to for advice. Sam made sure Kristina wasn't being pressured in any way by her then-boyfriend Kiefer and once Kristina confirmed it was her choice and she was ready, Sam went over how to be safe and took her to the Port Charles Women's Clinic for contraceptive. Sam told Kristina about how she was pressured to have sex before she was ready and she wishes she would've waited. She also shares how she still thinks Kristina should wait but she knows Kristina will have sex no matter what she says and ultimately she just wants her to be safe.
Damian Spinelli is her best friend. She is very good friends with Maxie Jones.
After years of bickering and fighting over Jason, Carly Spencer has also become a close friend to her.
After years of fighting each other for Jason and Drew's affection, Sam and her former rival, Elizabeth Webber respect one another and are on good terms for the most part.
Out of all of Jason's ex-girlfriends, she has always maintained a friendly relationship with Dr. Robin Scorpio-Drake.
Sam is the mother of three children (one of which is deceased):
- A daughter named Lila, who was born in November of 2004 with her ex-lover, mob boss Sonny Corinthos, whom she remains close friends with after their daughter was stillborn.
- A son named Danny, who was born in June of 2012, with her ex-husband, former mob boss, Jason Morgan. She and Jason have shared custody.
- Another daughter named Scout, who was born in February of 2017, with her ex-husband, former Navy SEAL, Chief Drew Cain.
Jason and Sam were married on September 22, 2011. In October 2012, after her son was presumed dead at birth because of a baby switch due to Todd and Heather switching Todd ex-wife Tea stillborn son Victor Lord III making Sam and Jason believe Danny was "dead", Jason and Sam were reunited with Danny but shortly there after Jason was presumed dead, when he was shot in the back by Cesar Faison, who was masquerading as Duke Lavery.
In 2013, Julian Jerome was revealed to be Sam's biological father, making Lucas Jones and Leo Quartermaine her half-brothers. After Sam found out that Julian had been lying to her (as he was pretending to be someone he wasn't), she wouldn't give him a chance at a relationship but they developed a pretty a good relationship. She also has a good relationship with her brothers. On August 5, 2016, after finding out everything Julian had done including murdering Carlos and trying to murder her mother, Sam disowned Julian.
It was revealed that Julian was forced to do everything mob related that he did by his not so dead sister, Olivia Jerome who pushed then pregnant Sam off the bridge which resulted in Drew saving Sam and helping her deliver their daughter Scout.
In 2014, Jason returned with amnesia as "Jake Doe" and he and Sam have no idea they're husband and wife. They do not have an immediate romantic connection but become friends. Sam worked with "Jake" to figure out who he really was and in November 2015, they both learn that "Jake" is actually Jason. Initially Jason was going to divorce Sam and marry Elizabeth, but he broke up with Elizabeth due to her lies.
In September 2017, a man known as Patient 6 escapes from Russia and he looks exactly like how Jason used to look before his accident in 2014. It was eventually proven that Jason and "Patient 6" are identical twins and on December 1, 2017, it was revealed the man everyone thought was Jason, was actually his twin brother, Drew.
After divorcing Jason in early 2018, she and Drew officially marry. After going back and forth with her feelings for Drew and Jason, Sam decides to take a break from her marriage with Drew after she confessed that she loves both him and Jason. Drew and Sam decided to get a divorce, which was finalized on July 5, 2018. However, Drew and Sam remained friends and co-parents to their daughter Scout.
At one point her late father was married to the late, Nelle Benson.Storylines
A 23-year old Sam arrived in Port Charles in 2003 and quickly teamed up with Jasper "Jax" Jacks to find the 5 lucky cards of the Dead Man's Hand, which could save Jax's father's life. When Jax's father eventually dies, there is friction because Sam also pursued the cards. Sam sabotaged Jax's car in pursuit of the cards, but it caused Jax to not reach his father's deathbed in time, and Sam was guilt-ridden. The two became lovers, but Jax breaks up with Sam after he discovers Sam's involvement in tampering his car.
Sam starts a relationship with Sonny Corinthos, but he is married with two kids. Despite her better judgment, Sam started to fall in love with Sonny. During the Port Charles Hotel fire, Sam was led to believe Sonny had died, and sleeps with Jax after they got trapped. When they were rescued, Sam discovers Sonny is alive, and they resumed their affair. Sonny chooses to return to his wife, Carly, after their son, Michael, was hospitalized. Sam finds out she is pregnant after Sonny goes back to his family. She almost has an abortion, but changes her mind. Jason Morgan, Sonny's right hand man, finds out, and urges Sam to tell Sonny.
Sam does not want to disrupt Sonny's family, and goes to South America, hoping to give her baby up for adoption. There, Sonny and Jax both track her down after finding out Sam is pregnant. Both men believe they're the father, and insist on her returning and taking a paternity test. Sam tries to run away from their hassling, and ends up falling down the stairs. Jason is there to support Sam when she recovers, and she accepts his offer to return, and stay with him. Sam has a paternity test that showed neither Jax or Sonny was the father. Jason and Sonny tell Sam that Jason tampered with the test, and the child is Sonny's. Sam agrees to tell everyone that Jason is the father so that Sonny and Carly can be together. Sam moves in with Jason, the two begin a friendship. They almost get married for the baby's sake, but Sam declares that she doesn't love him or want to make a false commitment, and leaves town again. Jason tracks Sam down, and brings her back. Soon after, Sonny and Jason are both attacked by the same man who turns out to be Sam's abusive ex-boyfriend, Nico Dane.
Nico, obsessed with Sam, tries to kidnap her, and Jason and Sonny both try to protect her. Nico is eventually killed by Jason, but Sam was then arrested for arson and the murder of her mother Evelyn Bass. Though the evidence is strong against Sam, she reveals her brother, Danny, accidentally started the fire when he accidentally knocked over a candle. The charges are eventually dropped after Ric Lansing interviews Danny. Sonny finds out he is the father of Kristina Davis, who is suffering from leukemia, and requires a bone marrow transplant. Kristina's only hope is later determined to be the stem cells from Sam's unborn child, which would require Sam induce early labor. Sam initially refuses, but after a confrontation with Kristina's mother, Alexis, she agrees to induce labor. However, she immediately collapses after developing abruptio placentae, causing her baby to be stillborn. Sam is heartbroken over the death of her daughter; she blames Alexis, and this begins a feud. The child is buried in November 2004. Jason and Sam previously decided to name her daughter Lila Morgan after Jason's late grandmother Lila Morgan Quartermaine, but since it was never made official, and the child was buried as Baby Girl McCall.
Jason helps Sam through the loss of her baby, and they share a kiss in December 2004 after his sister, Emily Quartermaine's wedding. They kiss again a few days later, but Jason tells Sam they couldn't be in a relationship because of his work and lifestyle. Sam decides to move out because she doesn't think she can just be friends with Jason. Sam, now living at Kelly's, helps a young mother named Bridget Daly give birth on Christmas Eve, along with Lorenzo Alcazar. Jason decides that he wants Sam back and invites her to dinner. Bridget gives her baby to Sam, fearing she couldn't be a mother. Sam moves into Jason's place with the baby, whom Jason names Hope. They make plans to raise the baby together.
Sam and Jason admit their love for one another in January 2005, and got engaged. Sadly, Bridget decides that she wants her baby back. Jason convinces Sam to return Hope to her mother to avoid a court battle, and Sam has to cope with losing another child. Hurt and angry, she leaves Jason over this decision. Sam tries to buy a black market baby, and stole money from Sonny's house. The deal turned out to be a scam, and Sam was in even more trouble when she is accused of kidnapping Kristina. Jason and Sam reunite when they try to prove her innocence.
Sonny's sons, Michael and Morgan, are also kidnapped, and Jason finds out the real culprits are Faith Rosco for A.J. Quartermaine. After finding the kids, Jason and Sam try to help Michael recover from the traumatizing event of being kidnapped and seeing A.J. murdered. Michael started seeing a therapist, Dr. Asher Thomas, but Jason was suspicious of him. Jason and Sam figure out that Dr. Thomas is A.J.'s killer, and he injures Sam while trying to escape. Jason tracks him down, and kills him.
While on a private getaway, Jason and Sam are taken hostage by socialite Allegra Montenegro, who forces Sam to impersonate her daughter, Alicia, and marry businessman Andrew Olsen to help the Montenegro family keep their rich lifestyle. Sam refuses until Allegra threatens Jason's life. After the "marriage", Andrew is found dead, and Sam is arrested for the murder. Jason and Allegra help Sam escape, and get the real Alicia arrested. Sam and Jason return to Port Charles.
She is there for Jason when he loses his memory in 2005, and he and Sam fall in love all over again. Sam convinces Jason to undergo a controversial treatment administered by his old girlfriend, Dr. Robin Scorpio. Jason proposes to her a second time before he begins his treatment. The treatment is a success, and causes him to regain his memory. The treatment ultimately fails, and Jason initially declines but later agrees to dangerous surgery. During an encephalitis epidemic in February 2006, Alexis receives an antidote instead of Sam's brother, Danny, who later dies. Sam is angry, and blames Alexis for her brother's death. Before he dies, Danny tells Sam how glad he is that their parents "chose her," making Sam suspect she was adopted. Sam has a DNA test done, and it reveals that Danny was not her biological brother. She and Jason find records indicating that Sam was born to a 16 year old Alexis on May 11th, 1980. Sam and Jason decide to keep this a secret due to her animosity towards Alexis.
In May 2006, Sam is shot by Jason's rival, Manny Ruiz, while in Jason's arms. Sam has surgery, but cannot recover because her blood is not clotting. Because Sam is not getting better, Jason then tells Alexis that she is Sam's mother. Alexis goes to Sam and stays by her bed side. Alexis and Jason come to odds when Patrick and Noah Drake have differing opinions on treatment for Sam. Jason has Patrick, Elizabeth and Epiphany perform the surgery, and Alexis has all of them arrested. Alexis then talks Jason into breaking up with Sam, for her own good. Sam recovers, and moves in with Alexis and her family. During this period of time, Sam gets her GED and a job at the PCPD, but still pursues Jason, causing even more problems in their already strained relationship.
After months of trying to get Jason to get back together with her and him shutting her down, Sam, who is hurt and upset, picks a fight with Alexis. Alexis then blows up at Sam, calling her pathetic. Ric sticks up for Sam, saying Alexis was out of line and Alexis leaves in a huff. Sam and Ric get drunk and have sex, which both Alexis and Jason witness. He returns home both devastated and angry but later finds comfort in Elizabeth Spencer and they have a one night stand that she later becomes pregnant from. After finding out that Jason not only saw her with Ric, but that he also slept with Elizabeth, she decides to leave town, but changes her mind after Alexis reveals she has cancer. Sam stays with her family, and helps look after her sisters while Alexis is in treatment. This causes her to be in close confines with Ric, and they argue constantly. Finally, Alexis reveals that she knows about the night Sam and Ric spent together. Though Sam tries to be there for her sisters and mother as much as she can, Alexis continues to be distant. Sam and Jason reconcile, but Ric frames her and she is arrested. Eventually Sam is exonerated and moves back with Jason in time for Christmas.
In early 2007, Sam is one of the Metro Court hostages and stands up to Mr. Craig. Sam is then offered a hosting job on TV by Amelia Joffe, who is really after Sam for revenge because Sam killed her father Bill Monroe. In this time, Sam and Jason's relationship is tense because of Jason continued friendship with Elizabeth. In May 2007, Sam finds out that Jason is the father of Elizabeth's son Jake Spencer. Sam tries to manipulate Jason into telling her the truth, but he remains quiet. Jason is then arrested for Lorenzo Alcazar's murder, and is in jail when Jake is kidnapped. Sam witnesses the kidnapping of Jake and keeps quiet about it, then is later told by Amelia that Jason knows she witnessed the kidnapping. Sam then confronts Jason in jail, telling him about the kidnapping and knowing he's Jake's father, before breaking up with Jason. The breakup causes Sam to go on a downward spiral, and she lashes out at Jason and Elizabeth. She hires two goons to threaten Elizabeth and her sons at the park, trying to make it look like they're Jason's enemies. After hearing of her misdeeds, an enraged Jason threatens her life.
Sam, not finished with Elizabeth and Jason, hires Elizabeth's husband, Lucky Spencer, as her bodyguard, so she can seduce him as payback against Elizabeth and Jason. Lucky realizes what Sam is doing, but still lets her seduce him, beginning an affair.[45] After Lucky And Elizabeth's divorce, Sam and Lucky start to develop real feelings for each other until Elizabeth reveals Sam's role in Jake's kidnapping, as well as the encounter in the park. Lucky confronts Sam and kicks her out of his house. She goes to the docks, and is attacked by the Text Message Killer (TMK). While fleeing the TMK, Sam runs into the street and is hit by a car that leaves her critically injured. Sam is hospitalized with a broken hip, among other injuries, and Lucky feels guilty because Sam had called him when she was being attacked and he didn't believe her. Elizabeth and Jason visit Sam in the hospital, believing Elizabeth may have been the driver, but it's later proven to be Monica Quartermaine, who was driving drunk. When Sam is released from GH, she is again attacked at her house by the TMK, who finally reveals himself as Diego Alcazar whom Sam had shot in 2006 and was presumed dead. Diego kidnaps Sam and Elizabeth, and tries to kill them by running the car they were in off a bridge.
Jason saves Elizabeth, while Lucky saves Sam. Sam and Lucky reconcile after. When Michael Corinthos is shot in April 2008, Sam visits Carly and Michael in the hospital, and later tells Jason how sorry she is about Michael. She also apologizes to Elizabeth for the things she had done to Liz and Jake. Elizabeth accepts her apology and they become friendlier to each other. Sam then starts working undercover investigating mobster Andrei Karpov, and eventually Jerry Jacks, causing friction in her relationship with Lucky. In November 2008, Jerry kidnaps Sam and intends to blow her up on a boat with stolen drugs to fake his death, but Jason saves her. When Karpov dies, she and Elizabeth (along with Jake and Cameron) head to a remote cabin because of an ensuing mob war; the Russians follow them to the cabin. While Jason and Lucky are distracted in Port Charles, a shootout occurs at the cabin, where Sam promises to defend Elizabeth and her children with her life.
During the shootout, Sam sends Elizabeth to the children, and tries to head the guys off, but when her gun runs out of bullets, Elizabeth shows up and saves Sam from being shot by a Russian. After the shootout, Elizabeth and Sam realize Jake has been kidnapped. Sam and Jason go after the kidnappers, while Lucky comes to the cabin and takes Elizabeth and Cameron home. Jason and Sam are able to rescue Jake, and Jason tells Sam he forgives her because she saved Jake's life. Sam then follows Sasha Donev, Andrei Karpov's lawyer who kidnapped Jake from the cabin, but gets caught and ends up in the bottom of an old well. Jason finds Sam and she is brought to the hospital. Lucky then gets upset when Sam tells him that she wants to become a private investigator.
In January 2009, a distraught Damian Spinelli visits Sam when he is hacked by FBI agent Winifred Leeds because the Feds are tracking his movements. Spinelli is arrested by the FBI, but Jason is able to get Spinelli released by making a deal with the Feds. When the Feds go against their word and make Jason betray Sonny, Sam breaks into the FBI evidence room, and destroys the evidence, saving both Jason and Spinelli. Jason, appreciating this, helps set up a P.I. organization for Sam and Spinelli through his accountant Bernie Abrahms, who was previously a private investigator. After a hospital crisis in February 2009, Lucky and Sam have a very civil break-up and decide to remain friends. Sam helps Jason by gathering evidence against Claudia Corinthos to prove to Sonny that she was involved in Michael's shooting. Sam is suspicious of Claudia when she hears that Claudia is pregnant with Sonny's child.
Jason lets Sam know that a teenage Kristina is drinking underage, partying at clubs, and acting rebelliously. Sam faces a crisis when Kristina is possibly responsible for Claudia's car accident. Sam goes to Jason, who also says that Michael could be responsible. When both Michael and Kristina run away, Sam and Jason go look for them, and they become closer on their trip. When Spinelli informs Sam that Alexis confessed to running Claudia off the road, she realizes Kristina was the driver who ran Claudia off the road, not Michael. After Jason gets injured from a fight with Jerry Jacks, Sam finds him and saves his life. Jason and Sam make love soon after. They later find Michael and Kristina in Cancun, Mexico. Sam and Jason bring Michael and Kristina home. Sam and Alexis get into an argument over whether Alexis was being too lenient on Kristina. Later Sam goes to the penthouse to meet Jason and discuss what happened, and they end up kissing as Maxie and Spinelli walk in.
After Sam's sister Kristina is abused and hospitalized by her boyfriend Kiefer Bauer, Sam was able to help Kristina deal with the after affects of her abuse. She told Kristina about her own past of relationship abuse.[46] Kristina initially lied and claimed it was Ethan Lovett who attacked her, and Sam beat him up and warned him never to come near Kristina again. When he later tried to ask Kristina why she blamed him, Sam caught Ethan in the act and had him arrested. Sam found herself debating Kristina's story with Jason, who said that some of the facts in Kristina's story didn't add up. Sam declared that Kristina's word is all the proof she needs.
Sam was coming home from the movies with her youngest sister Molly Lansing when they discovered Kiefer's body on the side of the road. When they arrived at the hospital with Kiefer, they found that Kristina had been beaten again.[47] Sam asked Jason not to kill Ethan, but he revealed that Kristina admitted that Kiefer was the one who had been beating her all along. Sam was shocked and guilt-ridden that she didn't realize the truth, knowing that people lie when in an abusive relationship. Sam told Jason about Kiefer's hit-and-run, and was relieved to discover that Jason and Sonny had nothing to do with Kiefer's hit-and-run. She supported Kristina when Kiefer died of his injuries, and Alexis, who was later found to be the driver who hit Kiefer. Alexis got out of jail time thanks to Diane Miller's maneuvering. Sam continued to be supportive of her mother and sister when Kiefer's grief stricken father Warren Bauer vowed revenge on Alexis and Kristina both, at one point slugging him when he shouted that Kristina deserved to be beaten by Kiefer.[48]
Sam is very understanding about Jason going to prison for Michael's protection. She has been visiting Jason numerous times in Pentonville. Sam is upset to learn that she was denied conjugal visits because she is not Jason's wife. With the help of Spinelli, Sam poses as Brenda Barrett (Jason's ex-wife) and gets a conjugal visit with Jason.[49]
When Maxie, Dante and Josslyn receive pictures from Franco, Dante and Claire Walsh release Jason into Dante's custody to catch Franco. Franco resurfaced June 30. After causing much havoc and mayhem in the lives of many in Port Charles, Franco disappeared again and Jason went back to prison. After being in prison for a few more weeks, Jason was eventually released when Claire Walsh found a loophole in his sentence. He returned home and was reunited with an overjoyed Sam.[50] Brenda returns to Port Charles on the run from the Balkan, an international crime lord whose son was murdered by Brenda. Jason was appointed her bodyguard, and she moved into the Penthouse with him; unfortunately, this left Jason and Sam with very little time to spend together. When Sam meets Brenda, the two become friendly.
On January 11, 2011, Sam learns from Dr. Kelly Lee that she could become pregnant with the assistance of an experimental procedure called "fertility reconstruction." Sam downplays her real feelings about it, saying that she likes her life the way it is. On January 17, 2011, Sam returns to the hospital to talk to Dr. Lee about the procedure more. Afterwards, it is shown that she is researching it on the internet, although she has not mentioned any of this to Jason. Jason later finds the pamphlet about fertility reconstruction and the two discuss having children and what a family would mean for their lives.
On February 4, Sam goes out to Jake's with Maxie Jones and Lulu Spencer, when she begins to feel nauseous and dizzy. Maxie believes that the nausea and dizziness is because Sam might be pregnant. Sam denies that there's any way she could be pregnant, but Maxie and Lulu continue to push the issue and tell her that she should buy a pregnancy test. So in order to shut them up, Sam buys a pregnancy test and when she returns to Jason's penthouse to take the test, Jason walks in and finds her with it. She doesn't take the test right then. She goes to the hospital to get it done there. On Valentine's day, during a romantic meal with Jason, they find out that she is not pregnant. Although Sam says she knew it wasn't possible, it still hurts to hear that she wasn't pregnant.
Jason and Sam discover that Brenda's lawyer, Theo Hoffman, is the Balkan, and immediately goes out to stop him. In the process, Jason is caught in an ambush and barely escapes. After Sonny and Brenda's wedding reception, Brenda is seemingly killed in a car bomb. Though it was believed that the Balkan was responsible, Jason receives a call from the newly returned Franco, who hints that he planted the bomb. When the authorities manage to get through the wreckage, everyone is shocked to discover Sam within the limo, with no sign of Brenda; Theo's henchmen had swapped Sam for Brenda and blown up the limo as a distraction. Fortunately, due to bomb-proofing, Sam survives the explosion with no severe injuries. However, when she regains consciousness with Jason at her side, she can't hear him. While being visited by Jason, Alexis, Molly, and Kristina, Molly begins to teach her sister sign language in the event that her hearing loss is permanent. Sam regained her hearing and was discharged from the hospital a few days later.
On March 17, 2011, Jake Spencer is hit by a car and severely injured. Sam is one of several people who were on the road at the time of the accident. Despite Patrick and Robin's attempts to save him, Jake dies on the operating table. Jason is grief-stricken, and Sam is guilt-ridden over the way she treated Elizabeth and Jake. Though Jason often disappears for several lengths of time, he tells Sam that he comes back because he doesn't want to leave her. Sam and Jason revisited the idea of the reconstructive surgery and Sam decided that she wanted to go through with it to give herself the option of having a child one day. She met with Dr. Lee about the procedure, and discovered that not only is she an excellent candidate for the procedure, but if it is successful, she could get pregnant and carry a baby safely to term. Sam went in the have the procedure and it was completed without any complications. Later at her follow up appointment Sam learned that the procedure was a success and once she is healed she will be able to carry a baby full term with little to no complication.
A month later while on a stakeout with Spinelli, Sam begins to suffer from stomach cramps and even though she protested, Spinelli insisted that she see a doctor and took her to the hospital. Robin suspected that Sam might be pregnant and decided to run some tests, but just as Sam gets settled into a room and is visited by her cousin Nikolas Cassadine, an unhinged ex-surgeon Lisa Niles takes hostages, sending General Hospital into lock-down. When the hostage situation is resolved, Robin comes back with Sam's test results and breaks the news that she isn't pregnant and the cramping was just some expected after effects of the surgery.
In July 2011, Jason decides to take the next step in his relationship with Sam, and asks Maxie Jones to help him set up a romantic rooftop dinner, so that he can propose to Sam. Later that night, Jason proposed to Sam and after she happily accepted, they set their wedding date for September 23, 2011. A few nights after the proposal Carly learns that her husband Jax is back in town and fearing that he might try and take Josslyn, she runs to Jason for help. Meanwhile, Elizabeth was rushing Lucky's new wife Siobhan McKenna to the hospital after she fell down a flight of stairs and sustained a concussion. The two cars collided, and Jason is critically injured with another brain injury.
Sam sat vigil by his bedside while he was unconscious and leaned on Monica and Edward for support. Robin discovered that a piece of A.J.'s dashboard from the original accident was lodged in Jason's frontal lobe and they had to remove it. After talking with Sam, Jason decides to have the surgery to remove the inorganic matter. While Jason is in surgery, Sam dreams about how her life could have been different with Jason, but during his surgery something goes wrong. Fortunately, Patrick was able to correct the complication and Jason pulled through the surgery. Sam sat by his bedside praying for him to wake up but also fearing that he wouldn't know who she was when he awoke. Sam was relieved when Jason woke up and still maintained all the memories of his life as Jason Morgan. After Sam lashes out at Carly, the two women reemerge their hostility.
With Jason on the road to recovery, Sam and Jason turned their attention back to planning their upcoming nuptials. However one disaster comes after another, as all of Maxie's wedding plans turn into disasters. The wedding planning begins to overwhelm Sam and Jason takes her on a bike ride to calm her nerves. The end up in a Chinese restaurant and learn that the owner is also an ordained minister. On September 22, 2011, Sam and Jason get privately married in a garden on the restaurant's property. Earlier in the day, Edward had given Jason his grandmother Lila's ring to give to Sam, and Monica had given Sam her late husband Alan's ring to give to Jason. Jason and Sam exchanged these rings as they wed in a small and intimate ceremony. They go to the "wedding" the following day and tell their loved ones that they already got married but have a reception to celebrate with family and friends.
Sam and Jason leave on Jason's bike and go to the mountains to look at the stars and end up at a cabin that Jason had built on the site of the Boxcar he lived in when he left the Quartermaine Mansion after his accident. It was his special secret place when he needed to get away and he wanted to share it with Sam. After that they went to Hawaii and Sam taught Jason how to surf and they played, laughed and loved. They didn't know that Franco planted cameras all throughout their bungalow and was watching. On November 8, 2011, the last night of their honeymoon, Sam and Jason were drugged by Franco. Franco locked Jason in a room with a single TV. He then went after Sam and made Jason watch while he took an unconscious Sam from the shower and laid her on the bed.
Franco then taunted Jason and covered up the camera, leading a furious Jason to believe that Franco had raped Sam. Eventually Franco lets Jason out of the room and he races back to the bungalow to find Sam still unconscious. When she awakes, Jason has to break the devastating news of Franco's attack to Sam and once the realization of the attack hits Sam, she breaks down in Jason's arms. When Sam and Jason returned to Port Charles, they each dealt with Franco's attack in different ways. Sam struggled with feelings of disgust and anger, while Jason began to experience extreme outbursts of rage. On December 12, 2011, Sam watches a DVD sent by Franco saying that she should be pregnant by now and it also said "we're going to be a daddy" meaning himself and Jason. On December 16, Sam is finally able to tell Michael about the rape and he could relate to being raped as a pawn to hurt Jason. Michael was able to help Sam begin to cope with what happened to her and start the healing process.
In 2012, Sam finds out she's pregnant. When Jason returns home from killing Franco, she tells Jason that she is pregnant. They talk about the baby and decide to get an early paternity test done to determine who the father of the baby is. The paternity test results come back and show that the baby is Jason's child. Jason soon falls ill again and Sam is by his side while he has to get another surgery done to treat a cerebral edema. In the process of trying to save Jason's life, Robin Scorpio dies in a lab explosion and Sam keeps the news from Jason so as to not upset him, but when Jason does find out the truth, he and Sam get into a heated confrontation but later reconcile. Sam and Carly eventually have a bonding moment and call it a truce.
Sam then decides to find out the truth about the last DVD that Franco sent and her search for the truth led her to the Ferncliff mental institution and Heather Webber. From Heather, Sam learns that Jason and Franco are fraternal twins brothers. Knowing this could affect the paternity of her child, she decides to get another paternity test done. She obtains samples of Franco's DNA from John McBain, a former FBI agent that she had previously befriended and when the results of the second test return they show that Franco is the father. Sam is devastated by the results but finds the courage to tell Jason, who is equally as devastated at the news. Jason is also upset about the friendship between Sam and John. When Jason can't come to terms with the baby, Sam decides to move out of the penthouse to give herself and Jason some time to think things over. However she never gives up on them being a family.
On June 1, 2012, Sam goes into labor in John McBain's motel room during a torrential storm that prevents her from getting to the hospital. She gives birth to a baby boy, with help from John. John leaves to get Sam's car to take her and the baby to the hospital but is attacked by thugs sent by Jason. Meanwhile, Sam noticed the baby had some breathing complications and when John does not return, Sam tries to find a way to the hospital herself, but after stumbling upon a cabin and placing her baby in an empty flower planter for safekeeping, she passes out and is found by Todd Manning and Heather Webber. Todd is distraught over the death of Téa Delgado's newborn son Victor Lord III and upon hearing crying from outside the cabin, finds Sam's son on the porch. At the same time, Téa stumbles upon the cabin and sees Todd holding Sam's child, falsely assuming that the child is hers and she then proceeds to thank Todd for saving him. Heather convinces Todd to switch Téa's dead son with Sam's.
Jason finds Sam not long after and, while outside, discovers the dead baby in the plant potter, assuming it to be Sam's. He has to break the news to her that her son is gone and she breaks down in Jason's arms. Jason gives the child to her and Sam claims the baby isn't hers, but Jason says she's in denial from the grief. Jason then takes Sam to the hospital to recover. She names her son Jason Morgan, Jr. On June 8, it was revealed that the baby is truly Jason's biological son, not Franco's, and Heather switched the DNA results so that she could further her vendetta against Sam and Jason. When Sam finds out John was treated for injuries the night she gave birth, she realizes Jason had him beaten up. When Jason comes by and tells her he was ready to accept the baby, she yells at him for hurting John and for everything he put her through in the last few months. She yells at him to leave, saying their relationship is broken.
Sam moves in with Alexis to cope with the loss. On June 18, she buries "her" son next to her daughter, Lila McCall. Jason comes by the memorial, apologizing to Sam for what he did and asking her to come home with him because he wants to fix their marriage. Sam, still unable to forgive him and dealing with the grief, refuses. Sam goes back to work, to cope with the loss of her son. She finds out Spinelli is investigating Heather after she stole Olivia Falconeri's car the night of the storm. When Sam finds out Heather was hired by Todd at his newspaper after mysteriously firing Diane, she realizes Heather is holding something she knows about Todd over him, and is blackmailing him into getting her a job. Sam goes undercover by getting a job as Todd's assistant at his paper. When she and Spinelli break into Todd's apartment, she finds an article about her baby's death torn and crumpled up, and thinks that Todd knows something about her baby.
Sam finds a shoulder to lean on with John, who is depressed over finding out that his sister might have been killed because of him. The two share a kiss on July 4th, though they pull away and decide it didn't mean anything. The next day, Kristina convinces Sam to go talk to Jason to repair her marriage. However, when she does, she hears Steve Webber, Elizabeth's brother, say that Jason and Elizabeth kissed the night before. Sam comes in and asks Jason if it's true, and Jason confirms it and also reveals he saw John and Sam kissing last night. Though Elizabeth insists to Sam the kiss didn't mean anything, Sam realizes Jason has given up on their marriage because he's not wearing his ring, and lets him know Elizabeth is welcome to him.
Heather is brought in on the suspicion that she buried Anthony Zacchara's body. When she does, Sam tries to investigate by looking at her bag, only to get distracted by Maxie and have the bag taken away by Todd. Later, she tries breaking into Todd's safe, but keeps getting interrupted by visitors. Eventually, Jason comes by, and tells Sam he heard from Carly that she's now working for Todd, and asks her why. When Sam asks why he cares, Jason reveals that he still cares about her. She admits she's investigating Todd because she thinks he and Heather are keeping a secret about her baby. Jason also reveals that Todd came to the memorial service for "her son," but left before anyone saw. Sam reveals how she's trying to break into the safe, but keeps getting interrupted. Jason offers to stand guard when he hears this, which Sam accepts and tries to get into the safe. However, Todd comes back before she can get in, and Jason is able to distract him long enough for Sam to lock it. The two afterwards admit that it was fun to work together again, and are able to enjoy each others company for the first time since the "death" of Sam's baby.
Heather is eventually arrested after it's revealed that she kidnapped and shot Luke, drugged Olivia, and murdered Maggie Wurth. Todd then fires Sam and reveals he knew Jason was standing watch while she tried to break into his safe. When he asks why, Sam asks why he seems so concerned about her baby. Todd doesn't give her an answer, and she leaves. Though she and Jason started being friendly again, in August 2012, they decide to get a divorce. They share one last kiss, and separate.
Sam gets distracted from the divorce proceedings when Alexis is admitted to the hospital with a mystery illness. Jason also starts to investigate and works with John to bring down the culprit. They find out the perpetrator is Jerry Jacks, who tells Port Charles he has poisoned the water supply and will only hand over the antidote in exchange for a large sum of money. He also reveals that he gave Alexis and Josslyn the counter-agent to prevent them from being infected. Sam finds out that Todd has an unknown association with Johnny Zacchara, and believes whatever Todd is hiding, Johnny knows about, as well. She and John break into Johnny's office to see if there are any clues there. However, Sam becomes lightheaded and passes out, and John is worried she has been infected, and brings her to the hospital. At the same time, Jason is brought in by Elizabeth after being shot in the leg.
Thinking they're spending the last few hours of their life in the hospital, Sam shares with Jason the fantasy she had about how things would have turned out differently. In her dream, she decided that what Heather had to say wasn't important and walked out of Ferncliff. Sam went into labor during her baby shower, and gave birth to her son at the hospital. Afterwards, she and Jason decide to name the baby Daniel Edward, after her brother and Jason's grandfather. In her dream, they also had a daughter named Emily.
When Jason hears this story, he feels like Sam deserves some answers. So, Jason asks Patrick to take a look at the autopsy report, and clarify what happened. Patrick tells Sam and Jason that the baby died of respiratory failure, and had a serious blood condition called hemophilia. When Jason asks if he died because he didn't make it to the hospital, Patrick isn't sure they would have been able to help him. When Sam asks if her son would be alive if he had been placed on a ventilator, Patrick tells both of them he believes that even if the baby had made it to the hospital, he doubts the baby would have been saved because his lungs weren't developed properly. Sam and Jason realize it's not either of their faults that "her son" died.
Meanwhile, Kristina asks Sam if there is any chance she and Jason will fix their marriage. Though Sam hopes they can, when she goes over to Jason's house, she sees him kissing Elizabeth again. Sam goes to the Chinese restaurant where she and Jason got married on their one-year anniversary. Jason shows up soon after. Sam tells Jason she came there, hoping that things would get better somehow if she returned there. When the owner comes by, neither of them have the heart to say that they're getting a divorce. Eventually, they have lunch together, and Jason ends up kissing Sam afterwards.
Sam attends the bachelorette party of Kate Howard, Sonny's fiancee, with Kristina. There, she overhears Elizabeth telling Lulu that Jason and Sam's marriage is over, and he wants to move on with Elizabeth. Sam is heartbroken when she hears this, and delivers the divorce papers to Jason. When she comes over, though, Spinelli is there and tries to encourages Sam not to give up because there might be hope. On the night of Sonny and Kate's wedding, Sam decides to stay home. John shows up later, and the two of them kiss. The two of them stop and admit neither of them are ready for the next step. John leaves, and Elizabeth shows up soon after. She tells Sam that she & Jason are not together, and she was manipulating both of them to get a divorce so she could be with Jason. She also reveals that the day Sam came over and saw Jason and Elizabeth kissing at his house, Jason pulled away and told Elizabeth they don't have a future together. Elizabeth apologizes to Sam, and leaves.
After Elizabeth leaves, Jason comes to Sam's house, and she lets him know Elizabeth confessed the truth to her. When he asks what truth, Sam tells him that she admitted to manipulating both of them into getting a divorce. Sam realizes there's more to the story, and asks Jason. Jason begins to say he has something to tell her, but they are interrupted when Kristina comes home with Trey, and tells Jason and Sam that Trey's father, Joe Scully Jr., also Sonny's longtime enemy, tried to kill Kristina. When Dante comes over to get their statements, Sam is worried Jason will take care of Joe himself. She asks him not to, and call John instead, but Jason tells Sam that he's "busy." He gets a phone call, though, and leaves immediately.
Sam later tells Spinelli to come over, and asks Spinelli what Jason is keeping from her, even going so far as to physically threaten him. He does admit he and Jason were tracking something, but it turned out to be a false lead. Sam calls Jason, and Jason reveals he already knows they need to talk, because he's the one standing at her doorstep. He comes inside, and tells Sam that her son is alive. Jason tells her how he figured out that the baby she buried wasn't hers, and that her baby was switched with Téa's stillborn child by Heather and Todd. Sam is overjoyed to know her baby is alive, and leaves to go get her son from Llanview. Jason stops her and tells her the baby isn't in Llanview because he's been kidnapped by Heather, who was hired as a nanny by Téa for "her son." Sam is shocked, but Jason promises they're going to find Heather and get her son back.
Sam and Jason go to the hospital after Heather makes contact with her son, Steve, ends up attacking him. He tells Sam and Jason that Heather wants to raise the baby as her own and thinks a second chance at motherhood will fix her again. Sam and Jason hear a noise in the hospital stairwell. They find Olivia on the floor, injured. She tells them Heather is in the hospital with the baby. Sam runs to find her son, and Olivia points her to the roof. Jason goes with Sam, and they corner Heather on the roof, begging her to give them back their son.
Heather taunts them for not loving the baby because he's Franco's child, but Jason holds his ground, saying that he wants to be the child's father and raise him as his own son. Sam listens to Jason's heartfelt plea, and begs Heather to give her son back. When Heather, however, hears the police say they've surrounded the building, she becomes mentally unhinged and gets onto the ledge of the roof. She jumps off the ledge. Jason runs forward, though, and grabs the baby out of Heather's arms before she falls off the roof, saving Sam's son. Sam is overjoyed to have her son back, and thanks Jason for saving him. They go downstairs to get the baby checked out. Before they can, however, Téa intercepts them with Todd, and tries to take her son back. Sam stops her, and John handles the situation by having Dr. Britt Westbourne take Sam, Jason, and the baby to an exam room while he explains the situation to Téa. Dr. Westbourne determines Sam's son is in perfect condition, but will keep him overnight as a precaution.
After Dr. Westbourne leaves, Sam and Jason spend time with the baby. There, Sam tells Jason how she's happy and guilty, as well, because Téa now is finding out that her child is dead. Téa later comes by and tells Sam she knows that the baby isn't hers, and asks to say goodbye to "Victor," the name she called him by. When she gives him back to Sam, she thanks Téa for taking care of him before Téa leaves. Sam then decides to call her son the name she gave him in her fantasy: Daniel Edward.
The next day, Jason brings Monica over to introduce her to Daniel. Alexis, Kristina, and Molly arrive and become enthralled by Danny. When Alexis asks when Sam and Danny are coming home, Sam admits she doesn't have the right equipment to take Danny anywhere. Alexis then states that everything she needs has been ordered and will be waiting at her house when Sam and Danny come home, which Jason overhears. After they leave, he tells Sam that he was hoping she and Danny would come home with him. He promises to love her and Danny forever, and he really is ready to be a father to Danny. He apologizes for everything he's done, and Sam forgives him, and decides to take Danny home with Jason, as they officially reunite.
Jason and Sam come home to his penthouse and put Danny down for the night. Sam later notices a message on Jason's machine, which she plays. It's from Bernie Abrahms, who tells Jason frantically he has some important information to give him, and it's a matter of life and death. Though Jason wants his lawyer to handle it, Sam convinces him to go himself. Later on, while she's waiting for him, John shows up. Sam admits she belongs with Jason and has decided to stay married to him. John understands, and leaves. Sonny comes by and tells Sam that something happened at the docks. Bernie has been shot and killed, and Jason was also shot and fell into the water. He tells Sam that divers are looking for him, and he tried to, as well, but it's not looking good. Sam decides to go and look herself to find and bring Jason back. She convinces the coast guard to let her put on a suit and go into the water. She doesn't find Jason, but she does find the phoenix figurine, which she gave to Jason right before he left the house.
Sam, afterwards, refuses to believe that Jason is dead, and thinks he's alive, and he'll come back to her and Danny. After hearing about Jason, Todd felt that Sam deserved to know the truth and "helped" Steve and Olivia find the paternity test. Steve later brings it to Sam, and tells her Jason is Danny's biological father. Sam is ecstatic, and hopes she'll get to tell Jason. Jason comes by after Steve leaves, and she shows him the paternity results. However, he disappears afterwards, and Sam realizes that he was never there. As she cries with Danny in her arms, she wonders where Jason is.
Sam finds out that A.J. Quartermaine, Jason's brother long presumed dead, is actually alive and in Port Charles. On November 20, Sam gets a call from A.J. that Edward is bed-ridden and may not last much longer. She comes over with Danny and Michael. At Edward's bedside, she introduces Danny to him, telling him Danny was named after him. She also reveals that Jason is Danny's biological father, and promises Edward she'll raise the family to make him proud. Edward then extends his hand to Danny, who grabs his finger, to Sam, Michael, and Monica's delight. Soon after, Edward passes away.
Sam attends Edward's funeral with Danny, and later tells Spinelli she's not ready to say goodbye to Jason. Spinelli tells her he can't hold onto hope, like Sam has. Sam becomes the controller of 18% of ELQ Enterprises stock, after Jason inherits 12% and Danny inherits 6%. Tracy invites her over one day, and when she and A.J. start to get into an argument over ELQ, Sam realizes she has the power to decide whether A.J. or Tracy will become the CEO.
Alexis and Kristina come over during Christmas, and decorate Sam's house. Sam's not in the mood to celebrate, but Alexis tells her they're doing it for Danny. When Sam says she's busy with a case, Alexis realizes she's still searching for Jason, and tells her to not ruin Danny's first Christmas looking for Jason. Tracy comes by later, showering Sam and Danny with gifts in order to gain the 18% of ELQ stock. A.J. comes by with Michael, trying to do the same. Sam, fed up, makes a decision, and gives 9% to both Tracy and A.J.
After New Years', Sam finds out Todd was arrested for his part in the baby switch from Carly. John comes and reveals that he just arrested Cesar Faison. He tells Sam that Faison was disguised as Duke Lavery, and was trying to win the affection of Anna Devane, Duke's wife. John reveals that Faison was the one behind Kristina's attempted murder, trying to gain access to Sonny's funds through Kristina. He then tells Sam that Faison was the one who shot Bernie and Jason, and then kicked his body into the harbor, and watched Jason sink. He makes Sam realize Jason is gone, and not coming back. Sam cries in John's arms over her loss. She later meets up with John at Kelly's with Danny, meeting Monica to prepare a memorial for Jason. Monica hears from John about what Faison did, and agrees to help Sam plan a memorial.
After Monica leaves, Lucy Coe shows up, and calls John "Caleb Morley," king of vampires. She tries to threaten him to stay away from Danny. Lucy sees Sam and calls her "Livvie." Sam and John realize she's crazy, and leave with Danny. Lucy corners John, though, and stabs him. Alexis and Shawn Butler show up, and stop Lucy and call an ambulance for John. Sam goes with John to the hospital, where she stops Todd from escaping after getting beaten up in holding and brought to the hospital. Afterwards, she stays with John when he wakes up. She goes to check on Todd, and hears Diane reveal that Todd knew about Danny's paternity, and kept quiet about it. She tells Todd she hopes he gets what he deserves, and gets sent to prison. Later, she finds out Todd pleaded insanity and is being sent to Ferncliff.
Sam is there when Kristina is arrested for attempted murder of Kate, now going by Connie. While there, she comes across Alison Barrington, who calls John and Sam "Caleb" and "Livvie" again. She tries to get Sam to leave with her, saying her son is in danger, but Sam refuses, and Alison leaves. John looks Alison up, and finds there's no record of her having a son. Sam suspects Lucy sent her to back up her story, and goes to Ferncliff to find out. Sam confronts Lucy about Alison, but Lucy says she hasn't heard from Alison in years. She tells Sam that Alison was married to Rafe Kovich, and gave birth to a son named Rafe Jr. However, when Rafe was born, they realized that Caleb was actually the father of Rafe, and Lucy claims that is Alison in danger. Sam goes back to the station, and tells John what Lucy said, and is shocked when she finds out Alison is dead. John found Rafe standing over her body, and has arrested him. However, Rafe claims that John killed his mother.
Molly comes to the station, and tells Sam and John that she met Rafe, and doesn't believe he's guilty. Sam, meanwhile, tries to help John find out what happened. Meanwhile, Todd, Heather, and Lucy break out of Ferncliff, and Sam takes steps to make sure Danny is safe from Heather. Meanwhile, Rafe escapes from police custody, and John is implicated in the crime with damaging evidence. He's arrested, but Sam isn't convinced. She asks Alexis to represent John, and finds out John believes Lucy is right, and there's someone out there named Caleb, who looks just like him, and is committing these crimes. John says he was with Professor Jay Mosser of Port Charles University when Rafe was released. Sam goes to PCU to get John's alibi, but she finds Professor Mosser dead. She calls Anna, who realizes John couldn't have committed the murder because he was at the police station when Mosser died. Meanwhile, Sam gets a call from Alexis that Danny was kidnapped by Heather, and Anna is informed from the station. Sam is upset, but Anna gets a tip that Heather is at the pier, and Sam heads there with her. There, they find Todd with Danny.
Todd is arrested by Anna, but insists he was trying to give Danny back to Sam, not kidnap him. He also claims that John was there, and that he choked Heather and threw her into the harbor, then tried to take off with the baby, but Todd stopped him. Anna and Sam know his story doesn't add up. Sam begins to believe that Caleb does exist. When she tries to leave, she finds "John" standing at the pier, claiming he'd been released. Sam is scared and tries to leave, but when "John" blocks her way, Sam tells him she knows he's actually Caleb. Caleb claims to have known her for centuries, but Sam says she doesn't know him at all. She watches as Caleb backs her into a corner with Danny in her arms.
Caleb kidnaps Danny and Sam and brings them to Wyndemere. He bites Sam because he is convinced that after 3 bites she will remember that she is really Livvie. John, Lucy and Rafe arrive at Wyndemere and find Danny alone. Caleb brings Sam into the tunnels to avoid being found. While Rafe waits with Danny, Lucy and John search the tunnels for Sam. John finds Sam first but Caleb overpowers him and plans to kill him. Lucy comes in and the three eventually kill Caleb and escape. Later at the police station Sam tells the press that John, Lucy and Rafe saved her and Danny's lives. The three are released, as a result.
Rafe is placed into a group home, as a result of not having any family, and Molly is worried about him. Sam helps her out by calling the group home to check on Rafe. She finds out that he got into a fight, and left the home. She calls John asking for help, and finds out Rafe came to his motel room, not wanting to go back. Molly and Sam head over there, where John decides to take legal custody of Rafe. However, Alexis arrives and says Social Services won't allow it because John doesn't meet the legal requirements. Rafe leaves with Molly and Alexis, while Sam stays behind and consoles John over not being able to help Rafe. The two kiss again, but Sam once again stops it, and tells John she's reminded that when they first kissed, neither of them were free, and they'll never get past that. John agrees with her decision, and they say goodbye to each other.
Sam ends up helping in the Nurses' Ball being hosted and run by Lucy. While volunteering, she meets Anton Ivanov, the handsome dancer who is choreographing the opening number for the Nurses' Ball. Anton tries to encourage her to dance with him, but Sam won't give in. She ends up attending the Ball with Alexis, Molly, Shawn, and T.J. Ashford. There, though, Anton tells her that his partner for his dance performance was injured, and asks Sam to step in. Sam agrees, and the two perform a dance number onstage, which the crowd thoroughly enjoys.
After the Nurses' Ball, Sam helps Lucy try to gain guardianship over Rafe by providing testimony at the hearing for Lucy's petition for custody. However, the judge denies Lucy's petition because of her recent issues with the law. Afterwards, Lucy, Alexis, and Sam are conferring about Rafe's situation when Lucy comes up with the idea of Sam becoming Rafe's legal guardian. Initially, Sam is reluctant to accept this, but Lucy later convinces her, and Sam comes to realize she can help Rafe. Sam and Alexis talk to the judge, who agrees to let Sam have temporary custody for 90 days, and Sam brings Rafe home with her.
Sam gets some investigation work from her late husband's best friend Carly Corinthos regarding the disappearance and gambling ring scheme of Carly's son Morgan Corinthos. Sam goes to a hospital where Morgan was taken and sees a doctor who looks very similar to Stephen Clay. The doctor turns out to be Dr. Silas Clay, the older brother of Stephen. Silas is seemingly emotionless when Sam informs him about Stephen's death and Silas having a nephew. Sam talks to Spinelli about Spinelli's investigation concerning Lauren Frank and her encounter with Silas. Spinelli leaves and Sam receives a knock on the door. It's Silas, who has come to meet Rafe but she tells him its not a good idea, at that very moment Rafe walks and wants nothing to with him. At Kelly's, Silas gives Sam his petition for guardianship of Rafe. Sam is surprised and believes that he has an agenda. When Rafe finds out he lets Silas know he doesn't want to stay with him. Sam promises Rafe that she is going fight for him.
Meanwhile Franco reveals himself to be alive during a party he hosts at the Haunted Star. He uses Jason to lure Sam, Carly, Spinelli, Maxie, Sonny, Michael, A.J., and Liz to the party. After revealing himself, he teases the party-goers with the idea of Jason being alive to keep Sonny from killing him. Then he announced the true intention of the party - he wanted to make amends. He revealed that he never raped Sam during Sam and Jason's honeymoon by showing them video footage of what really happened that night. He also showed another video showing that Michael's attack in prison was never his intention and went beyond what he wanted to happen. Nevertheless no one's attitude toward Franco thawed, because he had still caused lots of terror and pain, so Sonny and Carly begin planning a hit on his life.
In court, Silas trashes Sam and her late husband Jason, in order to make her look like an unfit mother, which infuriates her. While she is trying to ream out Silas, he examines Danny, despite Sam's objection and says he's sick. He tells her that she needs to take Danny to the hospital but she refuses and leaves. Later on, she decides to him in and gets his blood drawn. Patrick informs Sam and Alexis that Danny might have leukemia and on June 13, it is confirmed that Danny does have leukemia. Sam is hurt, as is the rest of her family, when Silas intentionally files for custody of Rafe, and is granted sole custody just as they find out about Danny's diagnosis. Silas wants to take Rafe back to Manhattan, despite everybody's protests. However, he later changes his mind and lets Rafe stay with Alexis while he goes to the hospital to help out with Danny's treatment.
Silas eventually is hired at GH, and takes over Danny's case. Danny doesn't respond to chemotherapy, and Silas tells Sam to look into a potential bone marrow transplant donor. Alexis, Molly, and Sam put together a potential list, reluctantly including Franco, as well. When Franco is admitted after getting beaten up, he has a seizure, and wakes up thinking he is Jason. Silas informs Sam, who goes to confront Franco. When he isn't there, she goes back to Danny's room, and finds him gone. Realizing Franco must have taken him, she goes to search for them. Sam finds Franco and Danny at her apartment, where she and Franco struggle over a gun, before he knocks her unconscious. Sam wakes up after being found by Silas and Carly. Silas brings Sam to the hospital, where she finds out Franco has a brain tumor that could be responsible for his behavior. Danny is eventually rescued by Carly and Dante, and brought back to the hospital. While talk about potential donors, Sam asks Alexis about her father, since he should be a potential match. Alexis admits that she met Sam's father at a bar when she was a teenager, but she doesn't remember his name and never saw him again. Sam finds out that Franco is a match for Danny, and prays for him to recover from the brain surgery to save Danny's life.
Franco makes it through surgery, but Patrick lets Sam know that he might have cancer within his body. Silas later confirms this, meaning Franco giving a bone marrow transplant could harm Danny further. Sam realizes the only option she has is her father, though he is unknown. She and Alexis ponder how to find him when they spot Dr. Kevin Collins. Alexis asks Kevin to put her under hypnosis to see if she can find out more information about Sam's father. Sam goes to the Crimson magazine office, looking for Connie. Instead, she finds Derek Wells there with Ava Jerome, the mother of Franco's daughter, Kiki. Derek tells Sam he's the publisher of Crimson and Port Charles Press now. Sam asks for his help to publicize a donor drive for Danny so they can find a match. Derek agrees to put it on the front page, which Sam is grateful for. However, he reneges on his promise later, telling Alexis he found a different story to put on the front page.
Alexis undergoes hypnosis and remembers that Sam's father's name is Julian. The headline on the Press reveals that Kiki is biologically not Franco's daughter, but Silas'. Sam finds out when Silas reads the article and sees his name on Kiki's birth certificate. Sam tells him to go find Kiki, while she and Alexis wait for people to come to Danny's donor drive. Eventually, Derek shows up and also offers to be swabbed as a potential bone marrow donor for Danny. Sam is ecstatic when Ellie Trout tells her that Derek is a match for Danny. Derek finds out he's a match, and agrees to the bone marrow transplant. Alexis talks with Derek afterwards about Sam's father and the circumstances under which she met him. Derek --- revealed to actually be Julian Jerome --- has a flashback and realizes he is Sam's father. "Derek" later meets Danny in his room, and has a hard time concealing his interest in being a part of both Sam and Danny's life. Julian gives a bone marrow transplant, and Danny recovers, to Sam's relief. Silas informs Sam of Danny's recovery, and in a moment of relief and happiness, Sam and Silas kiss. Sam deflects it, but Silas doesn't.
When Danny is getting better, Silas tells Sam that she can go on a dinner date with him as a way of thanking him. Sam agrees, though Alexis expresses her reservations. Kiki marries Morgan, and Ava throws a reception party for them. Silas asks Sam to be his date for the reception, but Sam declines. She later talks to Patrick about how she declined because she feels like she's betraying Jason. Patrick, who is dealing with losing Robin, makes Sam see that Jason would like her to move on, not stand still with her life because of his memory.
Sam gets dressed, and heads to the reception, only to find Ava and Silas kissing. She leaves, hurt, but Silas follows her. He tries to explain that Ava wants him back, and she told him that at the party. When Sam is still in disbelief, Silas tells her that Ava tried to make a point by kissing Silas to get him back. He pushed Ava away, and ran after Sam because he's only interested in her, not Ava. Sam is a little taken aback, but agrees to give Silas a second chance. However, Ava comes out of a corner, having heard their conversation, and tries to scare Sam off by telling her that Silas has dark secrets. Sam calls her bluff, wondering why Ava wants him back if Silas is dangerous. Ava backs off, and Silas and Sam leave, going back to the hospital, where they have a dinner date in front of Danny's room with takeout.
Sam is finally able to take Danny home, but Silas hangs around, helping them get settled in, and Sam makes visits to the hospital to see him. During a visit, Sam finds her mother running a DNA test on her against Lucas Jones, Carly's adopted brother, because she thinks Sam's father might be Julian Jerome. Sam agrees to the test, and finds out that Julian Jerome is her biological father, and Lucas her brother. Sam tells Alexis about Silas mentioning that Ava has a brother Kiki never knew about. She wonders if that brother might be Julian. Sam and Silas go to NYC to investigate Ava's past and the possibility that she may be Ava's niece. There, they find Delia Ryan, who confirms she was Victor's mistress and Ava's mother. Sam confronts Ava about this, though they remain at an impasse about Julian and her connection to the Jeromes.
At an art gallery hosted by Ava for Franco, Heather shows up and reveals that Franco is actually her son with Scott Baldwin. Sam is furious with Heather for ruining her life, and leaves with Silas. They end up kissing outside; however, when Sam notice Morgan and Michael leaving simultaneously, she goes back inside and finds out "Derek" is really Julian Jerome, her father. He also reveals that he's been targeting Sonny's business with Ava, looking to gain the territory. When Sonny threatens to kill him, Sam fears that killing Julian might kill Danny, as well. Ava and Julian jump on that, and Sonny lets Sam know that Julian is using Danny as leverage. When Sonny leaves and Julian confirms he won't get tested in case Sonny decides to kill him, Sam is furious and storms out with Silas. On NYE (on the show), Sam and Silas make love for the first time.
On January 1, 2014, Det. Nathan West tells Sam that Silas has a wife. She confronts Silas who confirms that he has a wife named Nina, who has been in a coma for over 20 years. Sam accompanies Silas when he goes to the clinic to see Nina. They are surprised when they arrive at the clinic and Nina is not there. Meanwhile, Nathan continues to build a case against Silas for attempted murder. Sam decides to use her investigative skills to help Silas clear his name. Nina's mother, Madeline Reeves, shows up in town after she learns that Silas tried to see Nina, and she tells them that Nina died.
Sam eventually convinces Nathan of Silas' innocence and they work together to find the person who was really responsible. They set a trap to catch the person and discover that Madeline was the one who accidentally put Nina into a coma because she was trying to kill Silas and Nina's baby. Silas is cleared and Madeline is carted off to jail. With this case off the table, Sam focuses on her own personal life and slowly starts to build a new relationship with her father. She is still hesitant to trust Julian, but decides to give him a chance to be in her life. Sam attends the 2014 Nurses' Ball with Silas and performs a dance routine with Molly, Maxie, Lulu and Kiki. On Danny's second birthday, Sam gathered with friends and family in the park to celebrate. Before the party even began, Nina showed up and revealed that she was alive. Nina explained what happened and Silas took her home. The next day, Sam, Alexis and Julian took Danny to Kelly's to celebrate his birthday since the first party was interrupted.
Sam starts to feel insecure and uneasy as Silas spends more time with Nina. Though Silas reassures her of his love despite Nina's return, she is unsure about the situation. Sam and Silas try to work on their relationship, and she even removes her wedding ring so he'd feel more secure, but soon they start to drift apart. Sam grows closer to Patrick as she supports him through the loss of his son, Gabriel. Due to a car accident, Gabriel was born premature and didn't make it. Sam decided to investigate who was responsible for the accident to help bring Patrick some closure. Her investigation leads her to discover that Rafe was responsible for the accident. When Sam and Dante found Rafe, he was trying to leave town because he knew they figured it out. Rafe sped off with Molly in the car, and Sam and Dante chased them.
Rafe and Molly crashed into a road block and were taken to the hospital. Molly was fine, but Rafe needed brain surgery. Patrick was the only neurosurgeon in the hospital and was forced to operate on Rafe, even though he just found out that Rafe was responsible for the accident. Patrick operates and tries to save Rafe, but he bleeds out and is left brain dead. Silas is furious and believes that Patrick killed Rafe on purpose. Patrick maintains his innocence and Sam believes Patrick and sides with him. Sam is heartbroken over Rafe's death. She was present in the room when the machines were turned off. She further laments not paying enough attention to him and realizing he was in trouble, when the truth about Rafe's drug addiction came out.
Sam tries to convince Silas of Patrick's innocence, but he doesn't believe her. Sam is angry when something she told Silas about Patrick in confidence, was leaked to the press. This information ended up getting Patrick fired. Silas denies leaking the information, which leads Sam to believe that Nina did it to further drive a wedge between them. Silas defends Nina and doesn't think she'd do such a thing. Eventually, Sam breaks up with Silas because he still has feelings for Nina. Sam wants to know who told the reporters about Patrick's struggle with his conscience, so she began investigating. She discovers that someone was eavesdropping when she told Silas about Patrick's struggle. She believes that Nina was the person eavesdropping and Patrick agrees to accompany her to the Crichton-Clark Clinic to get more information on Nina. They are successful in infiltrating the clinic, but aren't able to get any information.
Sam and Patrick start spending a lot of time together. They confide in one another and talk about their lost loves in Jason and Robin. Meanwhile, Molly remembers that Rafe told her that someone put him up to causing the accident. Patrick asks Sam to investigate who could have put Rafe up to it and she agrees. Sam works on the case, but hits a roadblock. She and Patrick go to The Floating Rib to unwind and share a friendly game of pool. They make a wager that the winner of the game can make a request of the other. Sam wins the game and teases Patrick about his beard before asking him to cut it as her request.
Sam and Patrick continue to investigate who could have put Rafe up to causing the accident. They share a flirtation and even a kiss as they grow closer. Eventually, they decide to put aside whatever is happening between them personally, so they can focus on the case. They hit a break in the case when Spencer Cassadine tells them that he thinks, Luke Spencer is responsible for causing the accident. Initially skeptical, Sam and Patrick follow up on what Spencer said by talking with Alexis, Anna, Dante, Lulu, and Tracy. Sam also goes to see Sonny to talk to him about Luke. She shares her suspicions with him and later they end up remembering Jason fondly, as it was his birthday.
Sam gets a lead from Tracy that Luke is in Amsterdam and she and Patrick makes plans to travel there. Before leaving town, Sam takes Danny to GH for his doctor's appointment. Danny gets a clean bill of health, but as they are leaving the check-up, he wanders into a John Doe's room. It turns out that this John Doe is Jason, who has escaped the clutches of Victor Cassadine, who kept him held prisoner for two years. After escaping Jason was hit by a car, which left him an unidentifiable John Doe in the ICU. Sam chases after Danny and finds him in the room with Jason. She tries to get Danny to let go of the "stranger's" hand, but he refuses. Elizabeth arrives a little while later and gets Danny to let go of Jason's hand by offering him candy.
Sam and Liz talk about the "John Doe" patient and his accident. Sam spends some time holding John Doe's (Jason's) hand and talking to him. She tells him that she doesn't know what it is about him, but she wants to see him get better. Right after Sam asks him to get better, Jason's vitals spike momentarily. Liz says Sam can stay with the patient while she goes to get his doctor, because Sam talking to him was doing him good. But Sam was unable to stay, because she had to go to Amsterdam. Liz leaves to get the doctor and Sam and Danny say goodbye to "John Doe," unaware that it was Jason they were talking to the entire time.
Sam and Patrick travel to Amsterdam and meet Tracy Quartermaine at a hotel. Due to a mishap with their reservations, Sam and Patrick have to share a room. Sam, Patrick and Tracy go over their plan and are set to meet Luke the next morning. Sam and Patrick plan to observe from afar while Tracy meets with Luke. They set up at a cafe, but when the time comes for Luke to show up, Jerry Jacks arrives instead. Sam, Patrick and Tracy confront Jerry and he reveals that he wants ELQ stock in exchange for Luke, who he claims to be holding prisoner. Jerry taunts Sam about Jason and his "death." Sam and Patrick warn Tracy not to trust Jerry, but she agrees to give Jerry as much ELQ stock as she can in exchange for Luke's life.
When Sam and Patrick arrive back in Port Charles, they fill Alexis in on what happened in Amsterdam and then she spends time with Danny. The night before Halloween, Patrick, Cameron Spencer and Emma Drake visit for Beggar's Night. Sam gives the kids candy and they invite Sam to go out with them. Sam doesn't have a costume, so they dress her as a tree to compliment Patrick who is dressed as a lumberjack. Sam and Patrick take the kids to Wyndemere, where they run into Maxie and Lucas who have Josslyn, and Nikolas, Britt and Spencer.
A few days later, Sam is terrified after a distorted lab result leads her to believe that his leukemia has re-emerged. Alexis immediately brings Danny to GH for more tests. Sam, Julian and Alexis were relieved when the tests came back negative to show that Danny is still in remission. It turns out that Madeline Reeves tampered with Danny's blood work to make Sam believe his leukemia was back. She knew Sam would call Silas, as he is Danny's doctor and she wanted to distract Silas away from Ava Jerome, so her daughter, Nina, would have the opportunity to steal Ava's newborn baby girl.
As Sam and Danny are leaving the hospital, Danny runs to his father and hugs him on his leg, as Sam chases after him. "Jake" and Sam come face to face and seem to have a moment of recognition. Liz introduces them and tells "Jake" that Danny visited him when he was unconscious in the ICU. Upon hearing that Sam's last name is Morgan, "Jake" brings up Jason Morgan and how he's heard so much about him. Sam tells "Jake" that Jason is her husband and "Jake" expresses that he is sorry for Sam's loss. Sam and "Jake" share another lingering and wondering glance, before Liz ushers him back to his room and Sam and Danny leave the hospital. Sam is visibly shaken by the encounter and has a hard time focusing afterward.
Jason and Sam next encountered each other at Elizabeth's house when Sam and Patrick went to drop Cameron back home after a playdate at Kelly's with Josslyn, Emma and Spencer. Sam arrives at the door just as Jason is opening it and they smile at each other. Elizabeth and "Jake" fill Sam and Patrick in on "Jake's" new living arrangements. The meeting is brief, but after Sam and Patrick leave, both Sam and "Jake" are again affected by seeing each other. After Sam's plans for Thanksgiving fall apart, Patrick invites her and Danny to spend the holiday with him and Emma at Elizabeth's. Sam takes him up on the offer and she and Danny spend Thanksgiving with "Jake" still unaware that he is Jason. At the holiday dinner, Jason holds his son again for the first time in two years.
Soon after Thanksgiving, Sam got the news that Faison had been arrested. She and Patrick went to the PCPD to confront Faison for killing Jason and ordering the crash that killed Gabriel. Faison revealed that Victor Cassadine was the one who ordered the crash, thus killing Patrick's son. This led to Faison revealing that Jason did not die the night he was shot on the pier and Patrick knew of it all along. Sam was furious and confronted Patrick, who admitted he knew Jason was alive at Crichton-Clark just months earlier. He then revealed to Sam the true reason that Robin left town -- to save Jason, but she failed and Jason died some months earlier. Sam was hurt by the news and furious that Patrick kept something like this from her. She promptly cut Patrick from her life.
Sam was left at the police station reeling. Meanwhile on the docks, Helena Cassadine was revealing to "Jake" his true identity. She also revealed that Jason had been brainwashed and conditioned while at Crichton-Clark to follow Helena's every order. Upon learning his true identity, the first thing Jason wanted to do was find Sam, but Helena prevented it. She wiped his memory again and ordered him to complete a job for her. Under orders from Helena, a masked "Jake" went to the PCPD to free Faison from custody. Needing a distraction, "Jake" grabbed Sam from behind at gunpoint and kidnapped her. He took her outside and forced the police to hand over the keys to the van Faison was in. Sam struggled and pleaded with Anna not to give into her kidnappers' demands, but after Detective Nathan West was shot, Anna gave "Jake" the keys and he let go of Sam, making an escape with Faison. When "Jake" returned to Helena, she once again ordered that he forget everything that transpired that night, meaning he would forget the incident at the PCPD.
Sam was furious that the gunman helped Faison escape and she began searching for him. Sam encountered "Jake" at the Metro Court and he kept her company while waiting for a job interview with Carly. They joked, laughed and got to know each other better. Sam also filled him in on her investigation of the gunman's identity. Their time together went well, until "Jake" used the same phrase the gunman used the night before. Sam immediately recognized the voice and phrase and became suspicious of Jake. At that point, Sam made up an excuse to leave, cutting their time together short. Sam went to GH and shared her suspicions with Elizabeth, solely to warn her out of concern, but Elizabeth blew her off and told her to drop it. Sam then went to Dante with her suspect, but without enough evidence there was nothing he could do.
As Sam was leaving the PCPD, she encountered "Jake" again. Elizabeth told "Jake" of Sam's theory and he was there to clear his name. Sam and "Jake" had a charged confrontation in the hallway and she told him to his face that she suspected him. The confrontation ended with "Jake" giving her free reign to continue investigating him, but warning that she wouldn't find anything. Sam took on the challenge and let him know in no uncertain terms that she would continue her investigation. After Sam left, "Jake" began having flashbacks of kidnapping Sam, leading him to believe that she may be right and something else is wrong with his memories. The next day, Elizabeth went to Sam's house and told her to back off and stop investigating "Jake," but Sam refused because she knew "Jake" was the gunman and was determined to prove it.
Sam and "Jake" had another run in at the GH Christmas party. Elizabeth interrupted and accused Sam of harassing "Jake," but he quickly tells Liz that he was the one who approached Sam. Sam, then stopped the confrontation before it started because she didn't want to deal with the drama on Christmas Eve. Sam and Patrick made up during the Christmas party and she forgave him for his lie. Later, they shared a kiss underneath the mistletoe. They start eventually start a relationship.
In 2015, Sam and Danny eventually move in with Patrick and Emma. Sam and Jake (Jason) team up to find out who he really is and Patrick proposes to Sam and she says yes.
Sam soon finds out that the man known as Jake Doe is actually Jason but he doesn't remember their life together and still plans on marrying Elizabeth. When Jason comes for a visit with Danny, Jason and Sam talk and they kiss but Jason still doesn't remember. A few days later, when she finds out Jason has gone missing she decides to go after him and they end up on Cassadine Island with Helena, where they hope to get answers but they don't and before she dies Helena puts a curse on Sam. On Thanksgiving day, Sam overhears Jake telling Danny that Liz and Laura were keeping a secret about Jason, which intrigues her.
A few days later, Sam invites Jake over for a playdate with Danny. When Jason drops him off he lets Sam no that he intends to marry Elizabeth meaning they will need to get a divorce and Sam agrees. When Jason leaves, she asks Jake about the secret but he doesn't get much before he starts to clam up and Sam backs off. She does deduce that Elizabeth must have known that Jake was Jason before him or anyone else did. She then confronts Laura and she continues to dodge the questions. Jason comes back right before Laura leaves and then Jason and Jake leave and Patrick returns. Patrick finds out that Sam is stalling the divorce because she needs to know if Elizabeth knew who Jason was the whole time. Patrick and Sam argue but she eventually agrees to move forward with the divorce.
After meeting with her mom to discuss the divorce and talking to her about Elizabeth, she realizes that she can't let it go and goes straight to Elizabeth and confronts her. Since she has no proof, she starts bluffing and rattles Elizabeth. Jason walks in as things get heated and he tells Sam off and cruelly kicks her out. Sam goes back to Patrick, who has planned a special evening for her and tells him that she confronted Elizabeth and Patrick goes off on her. As the argument gets heated, Jason stops by and Patrick storms out. Jason wants to know what Sam and Liz were fighting about. She tells him that she is convinced that Elizabeth knew who he was before he did. He asks for proof and she mentions what Jake said Danny but Jason doesn't believe her. She tells him to look into her eyes and then go home and look into Elizabeth's eyes and he will know the truth. After that Jason leaves and then Patrick returns. After finally realizing that Sam has not gotten over Jason, he tearfully ends their engagement.
Sam tries to get Patrick to rethink his decision but she realizes that what he's saying is true so she takes off the ring and moves out. She ends up moving in with her parents. Days later, Sam is at the Nutcracker gala at the Metro Court, when she runs into Jason on the roof and he apologizes for being so cruel to her. On Christmas Eve, Jason runs into Sam and Danny in the park and has another memory flash when he sees Sam's star necklace. Jason and Sam have another chance encounter at The Floating Rib on New Year's Eve. They play a game of pool together, have some drinks and almost kiss before Jason is called away for an emergency with Jake. Sam later runs into Jason at the penthouse and he explains to her why he had to cut their time short on NYE. He also confides in Sam about another memory he had of her and the star necklace. Sam explains the memory to him and they grow closer. Later, Jason asks her out and they go to lunch together at Kelly's.
With Jason still facing legal troubles from his fight with Nikolas, Sam sets out to prove that he's innocent. She managed to track down a couple who were staying at The Metro Court that night and witnessed the altercation between Jason and Nikolas. They were initially hesitant but Sam convinced them to agree to testify to the fact that Nikolas was the aggressor in the fight, thus exonerating Jason of the attempted murder charges. Excited about the good news, Sam went to Jason's hotel room to share it with him. Elizabeth answered the door and upon seeing Sam, tried to make it seem like her presence there was something that it was not. Jason and Jake soon arrive back to the hotel room and Jason makes it clear that Elizabeth and Jake are staying there because someone is stalking their home. He also tells Sam that he is now staying in a separate room down the hall if she needs to find him for any reason. Jason goes on to thank Sam for helping to clear him and then asks for her help in investigating the alleged stalker.
Jake starts to pick up on his mother's hatred of Sam and blames her for his parents' break up. Elizabeth is angry and opposed to Sam helping with the investigation. Sam thinks Elizabeth doesn't want her help because she already knows who's behind the break-ins and is using the situation to manipulate Jason. Before it can get too far, Jason stops the confrontation and insists that Sam help because the sooner they figure out what's really going on the better it will be for everyone. On Jason's "birthday" aka the day he woke up from his accident as Jason Morgan, Carly insists on throwing Jason a birthday party. She calls Sam and orders a cake. Sam is hesitant about the party because she doesn't want to put any pressure on Jason about his past, however Carly insists anyways. When Jason arrives at the MetroCourt he isn't in a partying mood. Carly is upset but gets it and backs off. Sensing that something is bothering him, Sam heads out to the terrace to check on Jason and bring him some cake. While out on the terrace, Sam and Jason are caught in the rain and the rain triggers another memory for Jason.
Jason remembered dancing with and kissing Sam in the rain on the penthouse rooftop. This memory was different from all of the others because he remembered the feelings he had for her, which made the memory all the more real. Jason and Sam make their way back inside and he shares the memory with her. He also tells Sam that he remembers what he felt for her in that moment. He asks for more details, so Sam takes him to the penthouse rooftop and tells him about that night. Jason is motivated after their talk to pursue his memories further and tells Sam that he wants to recover his memories with her help. Sam encourages him to do what he wants, but sadly lets him know that she can't be the one to help him with this. Some of his memories are also her memories of their life, which make them extremely personal to her and she doesn't want to impact his progress with her expectations or hopes to which Jason is very understanding.
Sam continues to investigate the stalker and soon discovers that Jake is behind the incidents. She goes to the Webber home to talk about what's been going on with Elizabeth and finds Jake alone with the babysitter and a cut hand. He had just thrown a rock out the window and cut his hand on the glass. Sam goes to call his parents and assures him that everything will be okay, but he gets scared and runs into the basement. Sam follows him trying to calm him down, but loses her footing and falls down the stairs. Upon seeing Sam at the bottom of the stairs unconscious, Jake gets scared and runs away. While running away, he gets hit by a car and is taken to GH.
With Jake in the hospital, no one knows that Sam is missing and she stays trapped in the basement, unable to move and suffering from a concussion and mild hypothermia. Jason starts to realize that something is wrong after he gets a call from Alice Gunderson because Sam failed to pick up Danny from a birthday party. Jason learns from Kristina and Molly that the last time they heard from Sam, she was heading to Elizabeth's, so he goes there to search for her. Sam hallucinates Jason several times as she is falling in and out of consciousness. She plugs in an old heater to keep warm, but falls unconscious again just as the heater begins to emit sparks and smoke. Jason arrives at Elizabeth's house to find the smoke detectors going off. He searches the entire house and finally finds Sam in the basement. He picks her up and makes it out of the house just moments before the heater causes a major explosion and fire in the home. The force of the explosion knocks Sam and Jason several feet into the air just as they make their way out of the house. After a moment of unconsciousness for both, they wake up and Jason rushes her to the hospital.
At the hospital, Jason stays by Sam's bedside. When Elizabeth hears what happened, she fears that Jake pushed Sam down the stairs on purpose. But Sam assures her that it was an accident and Jake didn't hurt her. After she was treated, Sam also went to visit Jake herself to assure him that she was okay and he did nothing wrong. Jason continued to divide his time in the hospital between Sam and Jake. While at Sam's bedside he admitted to her that he doesn't want to miss the opportunity to get to know her more and he's going to be better for her. After spending another day in the hospital Sam starts to get restless and misses Danny. She begs Jason to help her get out of there and he is initially hesitant, but eventually agrees.
Jason helps her sneak out but they are caught by Lucas, who eventually lets them go. They head to the Quartermaines to pick up Danny from Monica and then Jason takes them home to the penthouse. Sam, Jason, and Danny spend time together as a family and after Jason puts Danny to bed, Jason and Sam have some time to talk. Jason tells Sam that coming so close to losing her made him realize that he doesn't want to lose her and he now feels just how much they're connected. Sam thinks he is only there to help her as a friend, but Jason assures her that it's more than that between them and pulls her into a kiss. Jason and Sam start making out on the couch, but the complication of their situation stops them from taking it any further. Instead, they have an honest conversation about their relationship and the people they are now. Jason then cooks her dinner and they enjoy spending more time together before he is called away with news on Jake's condition. Jason returns to see Sam the next day and tells her that he and Elizabeth have to take Jake to Shriner's Hospital for Children in Philadelphia for treatment. He kisses her goodbye and promises to take her out when he gets back.
While Jason is out of town, Sam spends time with her family preparing for her parent's wedding. On the day of the wedding, everything goes off without a hitch until after the "I Do's." Landon Dixon storms into the church and takes everyone hostage after his gun shipment gets busted by Paul Hornsby, who was working undercover. Sonny saves the day after Landon takes Kristina hostage, revealing to everyone that he can walk and no longer needs his wheelchair. The day after the wedding Sam meets her parents at The Floating Rib to give them their wedding present -- a surprise honeymoon suite. They ask her if Jason knows what happened at the wedding, but she explains she didn't want to worry or distract him so that all his attention could be on Jake.
Jason finds out what happened at the wedding and immediately calls Sam to see if she is alright. He then asks her to bring Danny to Philadelphia, because he wanted to see them both and it would be good for Jake to see his little brother. Sam and Danny arrive and Jason is thrilled to see them. Jason takes Danny back to visit Jake, while Sam runs into Nikolas and talks to him about a case they are working on. After the visit, Jason and Sam discover that they are staying at the same hotel and Sam invites him to stop over to tuck Danny in. Jason stops by that night and Sam tells him more about her past and their past. When Danny is ready with his book, Sam reads him a bedtime story as he sits with his father and later falls asleep in his father's arms. Sam and Jason tuck him into bed together and later they fall asleep together on the couch.
Sam and Jason wake up in each other's arms. They kiss, flirt and tease about dreaming of the other. Their make-out session stops when they realize Danny is awake and they get up to tend to him. As Jason is leaving to return to his room, freshen up and head back to the hospital, they run into Elizabeth who sees him leaving Sam's room smiling. He explains that he came over to tuck Danny in for bed and stayed the night with them. Elizabeth tells him that Jake is being discharged and then leaves visibly unhappy. When Jason returns a little while later to invite Sam and Danny to walk over to the hospital with him, Sam declines stating that she doesn't want her presence to make Elizabeth uncomfortable. However, Jason insists they come with him, because Elizabeth would just have to get used to the reality of their situation now. So, Sam and Danny accompany Jason to the hospital to bring Jake home.
After returning to Port Charles, Sam continues to investigate Hayden and meets with Baxter Corbin to find out more information. Jason calls Sam to meet him at the Metro Court Hotel, because he wants to share his news and give her a tour of his new apartment, but she's unable to go to see his place because she has to attend the reading of Helena Cassadine's will. When Jason leaves the Metro Court, he forgets his memorial plaque that he ripped off the wall of the Quartermaine crypt. After the will reading, Sam returns it to him and sees his new place.
Jason and Sam kiss and end up talking about their relationship. A delivery interrupts them and Sam is shocked that Jason picked out the same two photos for his new place that previously sat on the mantle of his old penthouse for years. They talk more about his memories and Jason expresses frustration that he can remember the small things like a photo, but not the larger more important things. Both agree they want to move forward in their relationship and Sam suggests getting a divorce. At first Jason is resistant, but Sam explains that she thinks a divorce would be best so they could start fresh without the pressure of the past and he finally agrees. They meet Alexis at Kelly's a few days later and sign the paperwork, finalizing the divorce.
Later that night, Jason, Sam and Danny have a family dinner at Kelly's, where they decide to go out on a date. Then they head to General Hospital to drop off Danny with his grandma Monica. While there they go to check on Tracy, who is having health problems. Jason begins to help Sam investigate Hayden's shooting and they visit Shawn Butler in Pentonville to try and get some answers. After visiting with Shawn, they put the pieces together and discover that Nikolas had Hayden shot to keep her quiet about Jason's true identity. Furious, Sam heads to Wyndemere to confront Nikolas and turn him in for attempted murder. Nikolas starts to man handle Sam in an attempt to stop her and Jason gets enraged. He attacks Nikolas and Curtis Ashford, who tries to break up the fight. Jason almost kills Nikolas, but Sam manages to talk him down and convince him to let Nikolas go for her. They head back to his place where Jason gets angry again upon seeing the bruises that Nikolas left on Sam. Sam tells Jason that she only cares about him and Danny and to not let Nikolas take any more time away from them. Jason kisses her and the two share a night of passion, making love for the first time in 4 years. In the morning, Jason and Sam cuddle and talk about their relationship deciding to start fresh instead of starting over. Their morning bliss is interrupted by Carly who shows up on his doorstep pleading with Jason to talk Sonny out of killing Carlos Rivera. Jason tries but is unable to get through to Sonny. He returns back to Sam who is still at his place and they spend the night together again.
Sam and Jason later confront Nikolas again and manage to blackmail him into selling them back all the ELQ shares he stole. Once ELQ is back in Quartermaine hands, Jason returns control of the company back to Michael. A few nights later, Jason and Sam spend the night together at the penthouse with Danny and Sam opens up, telling Jason what it was like when he was gone. Jake starts attending art therapy with Franco, which causes major issues with Jason because he doesn't want Franco around his son. After a heated confrontation at the hospital between Jason and Franco, Jason takes Sam out of town for a few nights to get away from the drama. A rainstorm forces them to take refuge in a barn for the night and as they start to make love, it's clear someone is watching them. After returning to town, the stalker continues to follow them. Sam and Jason catch onto him when they are in the park and realize someone is following them. It turns out to be Franco who was stalking them, although he claims otherwise. Jason threatens Franco and tells him to stay away from them and Jake.
In early May, Jason gets into a motorcycle accident. After this event, which included visions of Robin, Carly, Sam, Sonny and Helena, all of Jason's memories as Jason Morgan begin to get restored. He tells Sam that night and they go home together and celebrate. The next day at Sam's insistence, she and Jason go to the hospital, so he can get checked out. They later share the news with Monica, Sonny, Carly and Michael that his memories are returning. Later in the month, Jason and Sam attend the 2016 Nurses' Ball together. At the conclusion of the ball, Diane tells Jason that Nikolas is suing him and as a result of the lawsuit ELQ's assets were frozen. Jason heads off to Spoon Island to talk to Nikolas about the lawsuit. Sam follows a little later and when she arrives, she hears crashing. She catches up with Jason in Nikolas' bedroom and finds the room trashed, window smashed and a body on the rocks. Knowing immediately that Jason wasn't involved, Sam tries to help him figure out what happened. By the time they get down to the bank, the body they saw, who they assume was Nikolas, is gone.
Knowing that the PCPD would try to pin the crime on him once they got the slightest shred of evidence, Jason decides to figure out what truly happened to Nikolas. Sam goes with him to help him clear his name. Together, they figure out that Nikolas faked and staged his death. They track him and his unlikely companion, Ava Jerome to London and then Cassadine Island on Greece where they finally catch up with them. Just as they are about to force Nikolas back to the States to clear Jason's name, Laura Spencer, Kevin Collins, Dante Falconeri and Lulu Spencer-Falconeri arrive on the island, also in search of Nikolas. Sam and Nikolas' uncle Valentin Cassadine who has been hiding among the group using the alias Theo, makes his move and takes the group hostage in order to force Nikolas to sign over the Cassadine family heritage. He immediately separates Jason and Sam from the others, locking them in a room and using Sam to control Jason. Sam who has been complaining of fatigue and sleeping a lot, faints setting Jason off. Jason breaks out of his restraints to get to her and takes down the guard who was watching them. Once she awakes and reassures him that she is okay, they head down and free the others of Valentin's guards. All except Nikolas, who is once again presumed dead after a confrontation with Valentin.
The group plans to escape the island and find an old jet. Jason and Dante manage to pilot the jet, but Valentin tampered with the fuel tank and they are forced to make an emergency landing on a nearby island. Jason stays behind to try and shut off the engine and prevent an explosion while the others escape. The plane explodes anyways, but Sam is insistent that Jason survived and is determined to go after him. Dante tries to reason with her, but she is steadfast in her determination to find him, before she faints again. Soon after she comes to, Jason finds the group and reunites with Sam. They build a fire to signal the cost guard and are finally rescued from the island.
After returning to town, the charges against Jason are officially dropped and Sam and Jason reunite with their son. Sam confronts her father over his attack on her mother's life. Sam cuts him out of her life and after their heated confrontation, she faints again on her way out. She is taken to General Hospital and examined by Dr. Hamilton Finn. Sam assumes she contracted some sort of illness from the island and is shocked when Dr. Finn returns and tells her that she is pregnant. After the news sinks in, Sam is thrilled to realize that she and Jason are expecting another baby. Jason comes to the hospital concerned after he learns that she was admitted. She is about to tell him about the baby when he starts to feel ill. Dr. Finn examines Jason and believes he has contracted malaria. The doctor tells Sam that since she was with Jason in Greece, she would need to be tested as well. If she contracted malaria, it could cause complications for her pregnancy. Sam and Jason are both tested and the results of both their tests show no signs of malaria, however, Dr. Finn runs a second test to be sure. Meanwhile, Jason can tell that something is wrong with Sam and he tries to get her to open up. Sam wants to tell him about the baby but wants to make sure that everything is okay with both her and the baby before doing so.
The following day, Jason is released from the hospital and he and Sam go home. Jason notices that something is off and that Sam is worried about something. He starts questioning her a little bit and says he can tell there's something that she isn't telling him. He also tells her that they both know they are stronger together than they are apart. He eventually agrees to back off and asks her to admit that something is wrong. Eventually, Sam relents and tells Jason that she is pregnant and Jason is ecstatic. He proposes to Sam again and she accepts. Later, they get a call from Dr. Finn telling them that both tests conclude Sam and the baby are malaria free.
Sam and Jason then turn their attention toward planning their wedding. Jason asks Sonny to be his best man and Sam asks Alexis to be her matron of honor. Sonny and Alexis both happily accept. Carly offers to plan and host the wedding at the Metro Court Hotel, but neither Sam nor Jason want anything extravagant. So, Carly offers to host the wedding at Greystone Manor instead, to which Jason and Sam both agree. Molly and Kristina also help Carly plan the wedding. Jason and Sam spend their pre-wedding night together at the Metro Court and make love. On the day of their wedding, Jason surprises Sam with Spinelli, who has flown in from Portland to officiate. Jason and Sam are remarried on September 6, surrounded by their closest friends and family. In attendance were; Danny, Jake, Sonny, Carly, Michael, Alexis, Kristina, Molly, and Spinelli. Monica was unable to make it due to a crisis at the hospital.
Soon after remarrying, Sam and Jason are thrust into pressing situations concerning their parents. Sam was there to support her mother during her father's trial and Jason supported and stood vigil by his mother after she was attacked by the General Hospital killer. While Monica is unconscious, Jason shares the news that he and Sam are expecting Baby Morgan, which inspires Monica to fight and she soon wakes up. Sam and Jason also work hard to stop the impending mob war between Sonny and Julian, but neither man is too keen on listening to their reasoning.
The brewing war comes to a head when Morgan Corinthos is presumed dead after a car bomb went off in Julian's car, which Morgan had stolen. Jason and Sam support the Corinthos family through the loss of Morgan. Jason and Sam begin looking into what really happened the night of the car bomb. During their investigation, Jason shares with Sam his desire to move his family to another city. He no longer wanted his family around all of the violence in the city, so they made plans to revisit the topic of moving to another city once they wrap up their investigation. Jason and Sam team up with Curtis Ashford, who was also investigating the bomb. Jason, Sam, and Curtis discover that Sonny was not responsible for the bomb, but someone who wants to eliminate both Sonny and Julian is.
Sam and Jason spend Christmas Eve together in the park with Danny. As a family, they also visit Sonny and Carly and spend some time with Michael, Kristina, and Avery before heading to General Hospital to visit with Monica and hear the traditional Christmas story reading. On New Year's Eve, they plan to attend the wedding of Nathan West and Maxie Jones, but the wedding gets postponed when Maxie gets sick and it is revealed that Nathan is still married to Claudette. So instead, they go to the NYE party at the Metro Court to see Carly. They also spend some time catching up with Robin, who was back in town for Christmas and the wedding.
On February 28, 2017, after being pushed off a bridge by Olivia Jerome, Sam gives birth to her daughter, Scout Cain, with "Jason's" help.
Later in the year, Sam starts having hallucinations of Sonny telling her that Jason belongs to him and that her family won't be safe. In July, Sam confronts Sonny at the distillery and holds him at gunpoint. Sonny tries to talk her down, but Sam shoots him in the leg and kicks him into a dumpster. She then disposes the gun and returns home, where she collapses in front of Jason. At the hospital, Sam diagnosed with Toxoplasmosis and it's revealed that she got it after Olivia pushed her off that bridge the day Scout was born. Luckily, Scout didn't have the disease. Meanwhile, Sonny is saved by Carly and at the hospital, Sam talks to him about the shooting. Sonny accepts the fact she had toxoplasmosis and forgives her. He and Jason also plan to hide the fact Sam shot him, but Sam ends up telling the truth to Carly, who also forgives her, but gets mad at Sonny and Jason.
On August 29, Sam followed Jason to a mob meeting after he went back to check on Sonny. She ends up walking in on Sonny and Jason trying to tell one of Sonny's rivals, Petrov, to let Max go. Once Sam is spotted, Sonny tries to tackle Petrov, but he's pushed aside and Petrov fires a shot at Sam. Jason is able to push Sam out of the way, but he gets shot instead. After Sonny kills Petrov, Jason is rushed to GH, where he falls into a coma and wakes up nearly a month later.
In October, after fully recovering, Jason and Sam take control of Julian's media company and at a party at the Metro Court, they renamed it Aurora Media. However, the party was stormed by two gunmen who took everyone hostage. One of the gunmen accidentally shot Elizabeth while aiming for Dante. Sam managed to distract the other one, allowing Jason to tackle him. However, the one who shot Liz takes Carly hostage, but Sonny comes to the rescue and Dante arrests both gunmen. Jason then rushes Liz to the hospital, but unbeknownst to him, Sam is abducted by Delvin, a third gunman and someone flies in through the skyline to pursue them.
The skyline man pursues Delvin and Sam to the pier and shoots Delvin after he hands Sam to Dr. Klein. The skyline man demands Dr. Klein let Sam go. Dr. Klein injects Sam with a drug and throws her into the harbor before escaping. The man soon jumps into the water and rescues Sam, who regains consciousness and sees that the man looks like how Jason used to look like before. After thanking him for coming back, she falls back unconscious. The man takes Sam in his arms and brings her to Sonny's house, where Sonny, Carly, and Jason are all stunned by the arrival.
On December 1, it was revealed that the man everyone thought was Jason, was actually his twin brother, Drew.
In January 2018, Jason and Sam got divorced, and she married Drew. In early March 2018, she revealed her feelings to Jason that she really loves him, then she told Drew weeks later that she had feelings and love for Jason, which means her marriage to Drew is over and she was dumping him.
In May 2018, Sam and Curtis started their P.I. company called McCall & Ashford. In October 2018, Sam finally become lovers with Jason again, after divorcing him nearly 9 months ago.
After Kristina tells Jason and Sam that she is moving into the DOD house, they are skeptical and she invites them to meet Shiloh, who runs DOD. Jason already knows him because they ran into each other earlier when he thought Jason was Drew.
After being separated for almost 2 years, Jason and Sam finally get back together after Jason almost drowns in the pier. They finally have sex and they are ready to get back together until Spinelli tells Sam what he found out about Shiloh and Dawn of Day. Sam tells Jason that they can't get back together because she has to get closer to Shiloh and get him away from Kristina. Jason goes along with it. Sam first begins by pretending to believe the DOD philosophy that Christina tells her and she begins to work closer to Shiloh. Shiloh later brings Sam to a lighthouse where he had his vision for Dawn of Day and how he mad his philosophy. Jason followed them and he is caught when he falls down the stairs due to him going unconscious and going blind The same thing happened to Drew Cain, which resulted in him hitting Jordan Ashford with his car.
After Shiloh tells Daisy that Kristina is more important to him than her, she goes to Sam to apologize to her for blackmailing her. Sam accepts the apology and notices the tattoo on her lower back. Daisy gets weird and tells her that it was a stupid thing she did when she was younger and she leaves abruptly. Sam sketches the picture and sends it to Spinelli to do research on it. He can't find anything but it is later revealed that Willow Tait and Harmony Miller have the same tattoo as well. Willow later reveals that she was able to escape DOD and that she has a kid with Shiloh, but that baby died the same day when Brad Cooper and Lucas Jones adopted him. Brad had switched this baby with Michael Corinthos and Nelle Benson's baby. Willow tells Chase and Michael what Shiloh gets the girls of the trust to drug new initiates, tattoos them and then he has sex with them.
Kristina finally is able to have her ceremony in the trust but it is stopped by Jason and Sam. Kristina was drugged by Harmony and Daisy, but Jason got her out of the house before they could tattoo her or Shiloh could have sex with her. She is brought to a safe house and begins their work to get her away from Shiloh. Christina admits that she gave Shiloh a pledge that would incriminate someone she loves. Everyone assumes that she said something about Sonny but it is actually about Alexis. This causes Sam to stay involved with DOD and keep the scheme going. Jason and Spinelli bug the attic in the DOD house to catch Shiloh in the act.
Sam brings Shiloh as her date to the Nurses ball and when it is over he tells her that he wants to do her initiation ceremony for the trust that night. Sam agrees and when they get there she gets drugged and Shiloh finishes the tattoo on her back. He then brings her to the lighthouse. He is about to rape Sam and Jason pulls him off of her and throws him down the stairs. When Shiloh wakes up at GH Sonny tells him he shouldn't have messed with his family and that he needs the pledge Kristina gave him. Sam comes into the room later and she tells him that it was all an act and that he lost. Jason tells him that he needs to tell him where the pledges are or he will make sure that when he does go to jail he will kill him when everybody forgets about him. Shiloh complies and Jason and Sam go to the lighthouse where the pledges are hidden. Jason and Sam find Kristina's pledge as well as a surprising pledge from Margaux Dawson. Jason gives that pledge to Sonny and Sam gives Kristina her pledge. She burns the pledge.
After Shiloh finds out Willow has a child, Julian worries that Brad and Lucas could lose Wiley. He goes to Sam and she wants to help out because she doesn't want that baby anywhere near Shiloh. Sam disguises herself as Willow and she gets the adoption records out of the public eye so that Shiloh is not able to find them.
On June 27, Sam drove to Beechers Corners to come to Jason and Michael's rescue since they brome out of jail, however Jason made it look like Michael was an innocent bystander.
Sam and Curtis opened up a P.I. business together and naming it "Ashford & McCall," but Curtis dissolved their partnership on June 26, 2019, leaving the P.I. business for a security guard job at Crimson. Despite the dissolution of their partnership, they remained friends.
On July 11, Sam and Jason gave Mac and Robert Scorpio evidence to secure an arrest warrant for Shiloh, who was later arrested for the murder of Douglas Miller and on charges of sexual coercion and blackmail.
On August 2, after learning that Drew's memory flashdrive was stolen she broke into Shiloh's motel room to look for it and found it under a drawer but it was a decoy unbeknownst to her. Shiloh took her hostage and trapped her in a freezer with limited air as an attempt to blackmail Jason into undergoing a procedure to have Drew's memories implanted into him. Jason attacked him and went to the former Dawn of Day house and rescued Sam from the freezer. Sam was taken to the hospital after being revived.
On August 14, Sam and Jason learned from Robert Scorpio that Shiloh and Dr. Arthur Cabot had kidnapped Cameron in an attempt to implant Drew's memories into his head but Franco took his place instead. They also learned that the real Drew and Curtis rescued them both, but Franco now believes he is Drew. Sam eventually went to see Elizabeth and Drew and offered her condolences to them both.
On August 23, Sam got an email from Drew saying that he left town to track down Dr. Andre Maddox and is going to return Shiloh's illegal money to Afghanistan. However, on September 5, it was revealed that Drew's plane dropped off the radar and that Drew is missing. Sam was devastated when Drew was presumed dead in a plane crash.
On September 9, Sam and Jason were helping the PCPD investigate Drew's disappearance and it was confirmed that wreckage was found and there were no signs of survivors. Curtis consoled Sam by saying "This is Drew Cain we're talking about."
On September 19, Sam showed up at Shiloh's trial since she wanted him to be put away for life. Everyone testified against him but Shiloh used Sam's past against her to cast doubt on her testimony, however they salvaged the case by saying Sam was not on trial. Shiloh was set to be transported back to prison for the day, but he later escaped custody. Jason and Sam switched phones after Robert warned Jason not to take action, although he did want Shiloh to be brought to justice the right way.
On September 23, Dev Cerci got a hold of Sam in attempt to call Jason and he told Sam he was on the Haunted Star before being knocked out. Sam went to the Haunted Star and found Dev unconscious and was surprised to see that Shiloh was on the boat along with "Wiley." Shiloh was armed and dangerous and was wearing a police officer uniform while holding all three of them hostage. Sam tried to talk Shiloh down and she convinced him to let her hold "Wiley." Sam tried to convince him to let Dev and Wiley go and just use her as a hostage, although Shiloh initially refused, however he eventually agreed when Sam warned him about "Wiley" being caught in the middle of a firefight since he is being hunted by the PCPD, a bunch of SWAT teams, and the FBI plus he said he had too many hostages.
After Shiloh told Dev to get "Wiley" out, he told Sam that he would be piloting the boat to Canada. He poured himself and Sam a drink but she smacked her's away. Shiloh and Sam taunted each other about his dad, Henry Archer with Sam revealing that Henry didn't want Shiloh to get his inheritance while Shiloh revealed that he killed his own dad. Eventually Sam threw a drink in Shiloh's face and then he manhandled her before throwing her down in broken glass. He began to take off his pants and he attempted to rape her but before he could Jason got there in the nick of time and shot him in the chest and he went down.
Jason got Sam out of there and when Sam was going to pilot the boat back to shore, Shiloh was revealed to still be alive due to wearing a bulletproof vest and he attempted to attack Jason with a gaffing stick. As Jason was trying to fight him off, Shiloh gained the upper hand and attempted to kill him with the gaffing stick but Sam reappeared with a flare gun and shot him in the back which made Shiloh scream and fall into the water. Jason attempted to make it look like he shot him but Sam told him not to. Once they got back to shore, Jason and Sam gave their statements and said she killed Shiloh in defense of Jason.
At the hospital, while she was being bandaged up, she was talking to Jason about how Shiloh hurt so many people and she didn't just kill him to save Jason, she also did it to make sure he could never hurt anyone else again. Unbeknownst to them, the nurse who was bandaging Sam up overheard their conversation as she was a Dawn of Day follower. The next day, after Sam and Jason gave their story to the police, the DOD Nurse told Jordan Ashford what she overheard and then Jordan called Sam back again. Sam gave her the same truth but Jordan said a witness came forward and said otherwise which cast doubt on Sam's story. Eventually, Sam was arrested for the murder of David Henry Archer when a recording was suddenly submitted into evidence saying that Sam wanted Shiloh dead. The recording however was a bit off since Sam would have never outright admitted that fact in that way, leaving Sam and Jason to believe that someone tampered with the recording.
On October 4, Sam was released on bail and then they went to see Sonny and Carly to meet their new daughter, Donna Corinthos. Afterwards, they talked to Dev about the night Shiloh held him, Sam and "Wiley" hostage and Dev revealed that Peter August was on the pier that night with a black gymbag. Sam and Jason grew suspicious so they turned to Spinelli for help to find a connection between Peter and Shiloh. Spinelli learned that Peter withdrew $35,000 and was going to give it to Shiloh. On the matter of Sam's legal troubles, Spinelli tried to prove that the recording was tampered with but he couldn't so he attempted to prove that it was legit but he couldn't prove that either. Eventually, after Jordan learned this from Spinelli, she was going to drop the charges against Sam, however an FBI agent named Edward Caldwell came to the PCPD and revealed that since David Henry Archer was killed over international waters, the FBI has jurisdiction over the case now. He agreed to let Sam go for now when he heard that Sam killed him in defense of Jason.
On October 14, Sam learned from Sonny that the WSB was calling off the search for Drew since they couldn't find him or any survivors and that he is being declared dead in absentia. Although Sam initially held it together in front of Sonny and Carly, she left and she cried because she was devastated since she hoped that Drew was going to make his way back to Scout and hoped that he was alive. Jason understood that she would always care about Drew since he was a good man, he is Scout's dad and he was married to her and he comforted her. Jordan once again called Sam back to the PCPD and when she got there, she was once again arrested for Shiloh's murder since Bryce Henderson framed her for hiring him to help Shiloh escape so she could kill him. Agent Caldwell was going to recommend that she'd be remanded to Pentonville without bail until her trial. The next day, Jason and Sam shared their final moments before she was taken to prison.
On October 25, Jason and Diane visited Sam and Diane suggested that Sam could go with a bench trial to try to get home faster. Jason was not comfortable with putting Sam's fate in the hands of one person but supported Sam's choice to do it.
On October 31, Sam became cellmates with Cassandra Pierce, who immediately tried to assert her authority and was curious about Sam's connection to the Cassadines. She eventually pulled a knife on Sam.
On November 7, Sam and Cassandra were on work detail at Rice Park and Cassandra eventually escaped after knocking out a prison guard. Sam stayed behind and helped the guard and told Detective Chase what happened. Eventually Sam was taken back to Pentonville.
On November 18, Sam's bench trial began. Diane was defending Sam while the prosecutor was trying to paint Shiloh as a hero and prosecute her. After hearing both arguments, the judge declared Sam not guilty for first degree murder, but guilty for involuntary manslaughter. The judge took into account that Sam had good behavior and helped the guard, so she sentenced her to two years in Pentonville but will recommend early parole.
On December 5, Nelle Benson became Sam's new cellmate. Sam threw it in Nelle's face that Michael moved on but Nelle claimed she moved on too. Eventually, they learned from Chase that Lucas and Brad were in a car accident.
On December 27 (Christmas Eve on the show), Sam was released from Pentonville on parole and was finally reunited with her family.
On January 2, 2020, Sam had a visit from her parole officer Dolores Maloney, who told her she could not have any firearms or alcohol in the house. Eventually Sam grew upset when Dolores told her to stay away from Jason and when Jason got home, she said it would be the last time they see each other. She explained that she had to stay away from Jason or else she will go back to prison.
On January 8, Sam and Jason went to Robert for help getting a new parole officer so they didn't have to stay away from each other. Although he initially refused, Sam and Jason offered to hand him Peter August since he framed Sam for hiring Bryce Henderson plus he is responsible for Drew's presumed death and the two murder attempts on Andre Maddox. Robert believed them and said if they can get evidence on Peter then he will happily help Sam with her parole problem.
Sadly, due to the terms of her parole, and the huge threat that drug kingpin Cyrus Renault began to pose in early 2020, she cannot be with Jason.
On December 9, days after the Floating Rib explosion, Sam breaks up with Jason and he moves out of her penthouse.
In 2021, Sam and Dante Falconeri meet up and began to work together.
In May, Sam found Jason and Britt while they were on-the-run to clear his name after he was falsely accused of murdering Franco Baldwin. Sam wants to help him over the border to Canada to keep him from being sent back to prison where Cyrus could kill him, but Jason doesn't want any of his choices to fall back on her or their kids. He also doesn't want Sam to violate her parole and get sent back to prison. Sam hands over fake passports, courtesy of Spinelli, for Jason and Britt and they continue on to Canada.
In July, Sam overhears Michael say that Jason and Carly are getting married. Elizabeth follows her after she leaves Charlie's Pub. Sam and Elizabeth talk about how it feels to come in second to Carly and at Elizabeth's urging, she burns some items from her relationship with Jason to symbolize moving on. Before the 4th of July fireworks began, Sam and Elizabeth were found by Finn and Dante. Sam finally declares her independence, and as the fireworks starts, she and Dante kiss for the first time, but Sam gets upsets, says she can't do this and runs away.
On July 16, Sam and Jason talk about his upcoming marriage to Carly and how he's going to tell Danny. Then, Sam went to talk with Maxie, so Maxie asks Sam on dating advice, asking Sam if she dating a mystery man in Dante, but she does not know.
On August 13, Sam and Dante decided to start a support group called S.P.A. (Single Parents Anonymous), and decide they want to go out for a beer or maybe a dinner.
On August 16, Sam and Dante are at the Metro Court pool, talking about kids and Naomi's case. Dante asks Sam if it was a date, but Sam insist it wasn't. But Dante piped up that it felt like their first date together, and he didn't know just friends kiss on the mouth like he'd kissed her. So Sam urged Dante to stop talking, and then the two shared a kiss, this time romantically, but they both pulled apart when her phone call began to ring, but she ignored it because it was an unknown caller, so Dante deduced that it was a date. As Dante get up and have another round, Sam's phone began to ring, Sam decided to answer the unknown call and asked who it was, and it was her ex-husband Drew.
On November 24, 2021, Sam and Drew are reunited when Sam opens the penthouse door and sees Drew on Thanksgiving.Crimes Committed
