On August 19, 2021, a woman arrives at Wyndemere Castle, where she kisses Spencer Cassadine and introduces herself to Trina Robinson as Esme Prince, Spencer's girlfriend. After Trina leaves, Esme admits to Spencer that she's been following Ava Jerome including pretending to be a nurse and torching her car as well as tossing a fake Kiki Jerome ID badge nearby. She did it all to throw suspicion off Spencer as the true stalker. This upsets him, and he claims she went too far.
It is revealed that Esme and Spencer met at Ecole Internationale De Chatel, their French boarding school.
On August 27, she and Spencer head to Spring Ridge Prison to visit with Alexis. While there, they spot Ryan Chamberlain and after excusing herself from them, she approaches him. Esme expresses an interest with his health aide Harmony Miller about working at the prison.
On September 7, Esme visits Ava at the gallery where she reveals that she and her siblings are adopted. Esme later told Ava that she isn't close to her family.
Later Esme slips up and calls Kiki "Lauren". Trina is suspicious as Ava's daughter always went by the name Kiki. Esme claims she read about Kiki's real name in the paper and she only knows what Spencer told her about Kiki. Esme accuses Trina of having a crush on Spencer.
In December, Esme wants Cameron Webber, Josslyn Jacks, and Spencer to go on a road trip with her. Trina insists on coming with them despite not having a partner. Spencer has to stay at Spring Ridge for 30 days because of his stalking so Esme wants to go on the trip to Sonny Corinthos' cabin before Spencer is locked up.
On March 8, 2022, Esme steals an access card and secretly visits Ryan Chamberlain. It was revealed that Esme was working to break up Nikolas and Ava under Ryan's orders and she had manipulated Spencer into stalking Ava. During their visit, it was revealed that Ryan is Esme's father. Esme ended up living at Wyndemere with Spencer although Ava wanted Esme out. Her relationship with Spencer is all part of her manipulative plan.
On March 25, newly released from Spring Ridge, fresh off fighting with Esme, and having seen Esme's pregnancy test kit, Spencer confides in Cameron that they broke up, she might be pregnant, and he doesn't want to be stuck with her the rest of his life.
On March 28, after Esme secretly framed Trina for voyeurism which led to Trina's arrest, Spencer publicly supports Esme, but later secretly tells his cousin Cameron that he knows without a doubt Trina is innocent and Esme framed her. He's secretly disgusted by her behavior, but explains that he needs to keep up the act to dig around and find the proof to save Trina and bring Esme down - especially since he is rapidly falling in love with Trina.
Young and emotional, after a couple months Spencer has a hard time keeping up the pretense of treating Esme like a girlfriend he loves. Esme purposefully manipulates him into his behavior and "poor" treatment of her in front of his father. This causes Nikolas to start taking her side and providing her with comfort. His acceptance of Esme repulses Ava, who pushes him away, the same day that Spencer reaches his own breaking point with Esme. Nikolas and Esme are left to commiserate, believing both of their relationships are over.
Continuing her manipulations, flirting, and stroking his ego, Nikolas gives into the temptation Esme offers, and they have sex. Hours later, Ava and Spencer both come home and nearly catch them in the act. Ava was convinced by Nikolas' mother Laura Collins to give their marriage another try, and Cameron reminds Spencer that Trina's future is at stake and he needs to commit to bringing Esme down. Both Nikolas and Esme separately claim to want reconciliation and they all announce the couples are back together - and Nikolas and Esme privately agree to keep their liaison a secret and never tell his wife or her boyfriend that they cheated on them.
Spencer later learns from Ava that Nikolas has slept with Esme and Spencer was disgusted by this and disowned him. Spencer was unaware that Esme was pregnant from that encounter with his father, and she was been held at Spoon Island there secretly as a hostage by Nikolas until she gives birth, with Elizabeth Baldwin in on the plan, and taking care of her prenatal needs as her private nurse. Nikolas plans to send Esme to Cassadine Island after she gives birth. On New Years Eve 2022, Esme set fire to the storage room using a match in order to escape Nikolas, then she intentionally falls off the parapet into the ocean.
Spencer and Trina, now dating, find Esme when she climbs aboard The Haunted Star and passes out. Esme is discovered to have amnesia and is shocked by her crimes and pregnancy. The town then learns about Nikolas' affair with Esme and that she's pregnant by him. Spencer isn't persuaded of her amnesia, and lies to Esme that he might be the father. Esme is remanded to Spring Ridge, where she is unknowingly reunited with her parents, Ryan and Heather Webber.
Not wanting his unborn baby sibling to be raised by his father, Spencer starts planning take get custody, with Ava and Trina both in on the plan, whether they support it or not. Nikolas visits Esme and corrects her presumptions, revealing he's the father. Shortly after, Ryan and Heather break out and take Esme with them. They go to Spoon Island where Ryan ends up taking his two obsessions, Ava and Felicia, hostage. By the early morning after Valentine's Day, Heather is arrested and revealed as The Hook, everyone learns Ryan and Heather are Esme's parents, Esme gives birth to a son, and Mac kills Ryan while defending Ava - ending his long reign of terror.
