Prince Stefan Cassadine and Katherine Bell are fictional characters and former lovers from the original ABC Daytime soap opera, General Hospital.

While in a relationship with Mac Scorpio, Katherine Bell was shot accidentally by Stefan Darius Mikkosovich Cassadine in 1997, she and Mac called it quits. Katherine had fallen for Stefan, who never left her side, but he was married to Bobbie Spencer when Stefan and Bobbie divorced, he pursued a romantic relationship with Katherine.
Alexis Davis (Stefan's "cousin") went to great lengths to break up his relationship with Katherine, whom she disapproved of, as Stefan himself had expressed disapproval of Alexis' relationship with Ned Quartermaine. She succeeded in derailing their romance for a time when she produced proof that Katherine was Stefan's half-sister Natasha Cassadine. This was eventually exposed as a falsehood, when it turned out that Alexis was the real Natasha. This revelation rocked Stefan and he reacted as a true Cassadine; Stefan banished Alexis...but eventually forgave her.
Eventually Stefan and Katherine became engaged, they celebrated their engagement with a ball at Wyndemere Castle, but the happy night ended in tragedy. Katherine believed that Stefan was still in love with Laura Webber, and was Prince Nikolas Cassadine's father. Katherine walked into a trap created for Helena Cassadine, and fell from the parapet.
Everyone thought that Katherine was dead, and Stefan was even put on trial for her murder, but it was discovered that she survived, due to experimental drugs, provided by Helena.
