Drs. Tom Hardy and Simone Ravelle are fictional characters and a former married couple from the original ABC Daytime soap opera, General Hospital.
Tom was most notably portrayed first by David Wallace, then Matthew Ashford and Simone was most notably portrayed by Felecia Bell.
Simone's son Thomas "Tommy" Hardy, Jr. was thought to be fathered by Dr. Harrison Davis until 1990 when Tom was revealed as his father.
Storylines[]
Dr. Simone Ravelle came to work at General Hospital as a pediatrician in the spring of 1987. Around that time, Dr. Thomas "Tom" Hardy returned to Port Charles from medical school. Simone and Tom had been lovers previously, and they reconnected.
They married on February 26, 1988, in what was the first interracial marriage on a daytime soap opera. Simone soon found out that she was pregnant.
On March 25, 1988, when a racist patient took offense to seeing Simone and Tom together, Tom and the patient got into a scuffle. When Simone stepped in to try and stop it, she fell to the ground and miscarried the baby.
Tom's actions led to a suspension from the hospital, so he began volunteering at the teen center. He met Louise Knotts who ran the center, and they became friends. They got closer and shared a kiss but he stopped it before it got too far. She started obsessing over him; while Tom and Simone were drifting apart.
By 1989, Tom and Simone separated and she had a Harrison Davis and Simone Ravelle|one-night-stand with Dr. Harrison Davis. The day after Simone slept with Harrison, she and Tom reconciled and made love. Simone then found out that she was pregnant again, but didn't know whether Tom or Harrison was the father.
She kept the secret that she had slept with Harrison from Tom. Thomas "Tommy" Hardy, Jr. was born later that year, and Simone finally admitted her affair with Harrison. They had a paternity test and it revealed that Harrison was Tommy's father. Tom decided to stay with Simone and Tommy though, and a custody battle ensued between them and Harrison. During the custody battle, it was revealed that Simone's mother Pauline Ravelle had tampered with the test, and that Tom was in fact Tommy's father.
In 1994, Tom went to Somalia to treat refugees and Simone and Tommy stayed in Port Charles. In 1995, as Simone was growing close to Justus Ward, Tom came home, wanting Simone and Tommy to be a family with him and return to Africa. Simone didn't want to, and they ended up divorcing, with Tom returning to Africa alone.
